Adding user names when updating gridView

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hi All,May be this is a begineers question, could someone help on this please?I'm using a windwos authentication via intranet. I'm able to display the username in a label control on a page load event (which is very simple). I'm not storing this data anywhere in the table (MS SQL). I have all my data in a table and I'm using a gridview to diplay them. I'm using a button control to update all the rows in the gridview. I wanted to update three columns in the gridview (1. Tickbox, 2.Datetime Stamp and 3.UserId).I've created a query in the dataset, through which i can update the Tickbox and DateTime stamp using now() function. But I'm not sure how to update the UserID field with the UserName (which inturn updates all the three fields in the gridview when the button is pressed.

Issues with updating Lists with Manager Names and User Profile Imports in SharePoint 2010 Server

I am having a curious problem with SharePoint 2010 Server. I have imported all the user profiles of our organization into SharePoint User Profile Service Application from our Active Directory. When the Manager name imports it comes in as domain/login. The organizational browser seems to work for MOST people, but not all. I believe this is contributing to my second problem, which is, I have setup a very simple workflow in SharePoint Designer that simply looks up the persons Manager, then places that information into a field called "Approval 1". After that it looks at Approval 1 and get the Manager name and populated "Approval 2" with that information, and so on. I have used an Impersonation Step as the Farm Administrator in the workflow and I have done it without the impersonation step. Both results in the same problem. When I enter my name into the list and run the workflow it runs beautifully give every manager up the chain to the top. However, if I put any other person's name in there it gives me the error "Workflow failed to get user profile for user: ____". I went to my supervisor's office and asked him to run the workflow. Using his login he had the exact same result--if my name was in there it worked great, otherwise, it gave an error. Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

How to let user edit selected gridview columns, not entire row

I've got a gridview I would like to let the user edit a couple of columns.  Seems like everything I'm coming across so far makes the entire row editable.

Hopefully the solution isn't too complicated.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

Advanced Basics: Adding New Features with User Controls

In past versions of Visual Basic, there were rudimentary graphics controls. In Visual Basic .NET you have the GDI+ library, which enables you to draw lines, circles, and most anything else. But how can you use the functionality of GDI+ to create lines and other graphics that respond to user mouse clicks and events? Find out.

002       A               20       5

003       B               50

004       C               60      10

Adding user to certain roles

I have setup ASP security in my application. I used the following tutorial, just wondering if someone can tell me how i can setup this up to allow the creation of a user?

Can someone tell me where to find or what to search on to find some example of how to add the option for adding users?

I have the above setup and its working, but only because of the accounts i created with my global.asax file.
I need to give the admins access to add a new user. Currently i can search on existing users and update them, but need to add the ability to add a new user.

Gridview's in Update Panel not updating

I have 2 gridviews in an update panel that for some reason will not update.  There is no data entry, paging, sorting going on, the data is just there to be displayed.  I'm using a timer that initiates every 5 minutes to trigger the updatepanel.  I also have an updatepanel on an additional page where I am also using a trigger to fire the updatepanel with 2 charts and 1 oneline/column gridview.  The 2 charts update just like they are supposed to however the gridview does not. Here is the code for the 2 Gridview aspx page:</head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server"> </asp:ScriptManager> <asp:Timer ID="Timer1" runat="server" Interval="300000" Enabled="True"> </asp:Timer> <br /> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server"> <Triggers> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="Timer1" EventName="Tick" /> </Triggers> <ContentTemplate> <table class="style1"> <tr>

Dynamically adding User Controls -- newbie question!

I am new to ASP.NET (coming from ColdFusion, thank goodness I'm away from that!).  And I am have THE hardest time understanding how to work with forms in ASP.NET.  Here's what I am doing:Dynamically add User Controls to a PlaceHolder based on some int value (which currently is passed in a HiddenField).Fire an event if the WebControls inside of the User Control change, then handle that event in the Main Page (i.e. save the input to DB)When the user clicks the "Next/Continue" button, the next controls for the next page are loaded. And I guess maybe I just can't seem to get how things work in ASP.NET, because I am really struggling with the general idea of how ASP.NET flows.  Should I be dynamically loading the controls in Page_Init, or Page_Load?  Or should I load the controls when the buttonclick event is fired?Do I have to add the axCtrl.OnDataChange += new EventHandler(HandleAxControlDataChange); line on Page_Load?  Or should I put this in When I first load the UserControl, I need to initialize some WebControls within the UserContorl.  Is there a way to know if I have loaded new user controls into my placeholder?  I can't use Page.IsPostback, because after the first page, every page is a postback from the buttonclick.Any help for this confused newbie would be GREATLY appreciated!!Here's what I have: pu

Hyphens in domain names get trimmed from account names in user profiles

We've been trying to launch an internal deployment of SharePoint 2010 MySites but we've run in to a problem with the user profile import. We've reviewed all of the relevant guidance and have been able to complete an import successfully, but all of the characters before a hyphen in our domain name are getting truncated from the imported username. To illustrate:   PREFIX-BLAH\tristan.watkins becomes BLAH\tristan.watkins after it is imported. When I log in, a new user profile is created for PREFIX-BLAH\tristan.watkins and all of the imported profile data is useless, since it is associated with a non-existent BLAH\tristan.watkins.   I'm assuming this is an issue with the beta version of Forefront Identity Manager 2010 that shipped with SharePoint 2010 beta, but I can't find any information suggesting this is a known issue and for all I know it may actually be a SharePoint issue rather than a problem with FIM. For what it's worth, this was not a problem in SharePoint 2007. Can anyone help?

Updating gridview attributes from javascript

Hello,   I have been trying to use a custom attribute in my gridview to pass a comma delimited list of guids between my server-side and client side code.  Normally I would just use a hidden-field to do this, but I have to add a hidden-field into a row in my gridview to use one.  Since I need access to the updated value from javascript before my grid is rendered on postback, I can't use a control that is buried inside a row.  So instead, i was trying to add an attribute to the gridview and having the javascript update that value.   Here is the private property defined in my extended gridview class:  private List<Guid> _selectedValues { get { List<Guid> myList = new List<Guid>(); if (this.SelectionType != SOMgridviewSelectionType.None) { if (ViewState["SelectedValues"] != null) { return (List<Guid>)ViewState["SelectedValues"]; } } return myList; } set { if (this.SelectionType != SOMgridviewSelectionType.None) { if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(this.Attributes["hiddenSelectedValues&q

Put outer-gridview in non-Edit mode when user edits inner-Gridview

using vb.net/asp.net 2005.(sorry last post I had the grids reversed, what I meant to say is this:I have an outer gridview I'll called "Outer" and an inner-gridview inside that I'll call "inner".There are times when the user will put Outer into edit mode and then put Inner into edit mode and change a value in Inner.  The user is not supposed to be able to do that.So when the user wants to edit Inner I need to change the edit mode of Outer so that Outer is Not editable.   EX: I want to do something like this but not sure in which event of outer to do it:'event fired when user puts inner gridview into edit mode Protected Sub Inner_RowEditing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewEditEventArgs) Handles Inner.RowEditing 'put outer gridview into non-edit mode Outer.EditIndex = -1 End Sub Does anyone know how to do this, is this the right event?  Also I assume I have to rebind the gridview?thanks,MC

adding database user as a DBO

Hi there - I'm a SQL newbie I have a T-SQL script I've been working on. Currently it's in 2 parts and both parts work if I run then separately - my question is - can they be combined?
