Session State throws error in ASP.NET Site Pages for SharePoint 2010 portal using Visual Studio 2010

I'm developing Visual Studio 2010 solution for site pages. I’ve created Site Pages in SharePoint 2010 and I’m trying to access Session variables in code behind in ASP.NET but it throws the following error.

Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration>\<system.web>\<httpModules> section in the application configuration.

I set the page directive as enableSessionState=&quo

SharePoint 2010 Site Actions Site Settings Error

I can not seem to go to Site Settings for a sub site in SharePoint 2010.  I installed SharePoint 2010 developer version on my laptop (Win 7 64bit) with Visual Studio 2010.  Try to create a sub site and go to Site Settings and bam!!! Error File Not Found.  This is frustrating.  Very frustrating.  I found so many problem with SharePoint 2010 and get no where with this version upgrade.  My life is completely ____ now.  Thanks Microsoft!  Why! Why! and Why do you not test your software and make people life much more convenience.  Why roll out this crapy software now on MSDN instead of making it clear that it is not ready??????????  WHY!!!!!! Yes, and I try to go to Site Settings from within SharePoint 2010 Designer.  It took me to the same error!!!!!  So what is going on?

After Installing SharePoint Foundation 2010, trying to open site gives 404 error in browser

I had this as reply on a thread about migrating from WSS 3.0 to SFS 2010. But I have completed all the steps with the modified documentation, but the browser delivers an error 404 when I try to open the site I created.  Same thing happens if I go at it via https, but first I get a certificate warning error (using the IP instead of the FQDN) and then being prompted for credentials.

I am completely stumped at what else to look at.  Any help in gathering information to get help is also appreciated.

Environment:  SBS 2008, SFS 2010, SQL Express 2008.  Rest of the IIS sites continue to function normally and I can get to the management site ok.  Although after the install, I had to go into application pool and change the service account from the domain admin (it defaulted to that) to networkservice account, otherwise I got a 503.  Same thing happened on the site I created until I changed the service account.  Now just a 404.

Trying to recreate Help Desk site in SharePoint 2010 fails with an error

I looked up the GUID using http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mcsnoiwb/archive/2010/01/07/features-and-their-guid-s-in-sp2010.aspx as my reference.  However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add this feature to the site collection.  When I go to the top-level site and go to add site collection features Web Analytics Customize Reports functionality is not there.

Clearly there is something I'm missing but since Microsoft is not redoing the Fabulous 40 site templates, any help in getting the old sites to work in a sharepoint database attach migration will be greatly appreciated.

Michael Caplan

SharePoint Server 2010 Site Suddenly Dissapeared - 404 Error

I created a site in a brand new SharePoint Server 2010 environment.  Now when I browse to the site, I get a 404 error.  The site has suddenly vanished. The link to the site still remains in SharePoint, but it's not there!  I tried running the SP Prod and Tech Config Wizard, rebooting, etc...

No one is even using this environment.

Any ideas?

Did anyone at Microsoft test SharePoint Server or Project Server before launch?  This 2010 release is so full of bugs.  Sorry to rant.

How

SharePoint 2010 Site Permissions

Hi,

I had another post about SP permissions but i didn't get this permissions thing.

I a SP site you can have 3 groups: Vistors (Read Rights), Members (Contribute), Owners (Full control). But you can give rights to one user (Limited Contribution or something like this.). To another user you can specify from the list what rights he/she should have.

How you can get programmatically all the users permissions from site x (http://server/sitename) in this format:

+--Visitors (read perm)
    |-User1 (read perm)
    |-User2 (read perm)
    |-User3 (read perm)
+--Members (contribute perm)
    |-User4 (contribute perm)
    |-User5 (contribute perm)
    |-User6 (contribute perm)
+--Owners (full control)
    |-User7 (full control)
    |-User8 (full control)
    |-User9 (full control)
-UserX (full control)
-UserY (read perm)
-UserZ (contribute perm)

So we will have to list all the groups from that site all the users from every group, and all the users that have rights on that site but is not member of any SP group (that has specific permissions).

Another thing: in permissions can be specified an AD(active directory) g

Saving Site as a Template Results in an Error in Migrated SharePoint 2010

Hello,

We've migrated our corporate SharePoint 2007 farm to 2010. We're having an issue with Saving Sites as Templates. I've created a blank site and attempted to Save the Site as a template and receive an error. The logs have the following below about the error:

System.InvalidOperationException: Error generating solution files in temporary directory.

The strange thing is, we have 3 web applications and only one exhibits this behavior.

Any ideas where I can look further?

Thanks in advance.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 1 of 2

In this first part of the two part series, Steven covers the differences between Site and Application pages in SharePoint 2007, why each may be used in various circumstances, and prepares for the construction of a menu located application page. After a brief introduction he examines the concept of Site Pages and Application Pages separately in detail with supported screenshots.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 2 of 2

As the second article in a two part series, Steven examines the attributes and details of a SharePoint 2007 application page, including the construction and feature deployment of the same page based project. Since this is a WSS level objective, as opposed to MOSS, you will not need MOSS to work with the code included in this project. Windows Server 2003, WSS, and Visual Studio 2005 are all that is needed, with no additional add-ons. He provides a detailed analysis of each step involved in the creation and deployment of the project.

Sharepoint 2007 - Wiki site - New Pages Not Inheriting Custom Master Page

I am working on a SP site (MOSS not WSS) which is heavily customised away from the OOTB layout. I need to create a Wiki site, which was going well - I've created a master page which displays the miniconsole (this was not visible with our customised layout), and made it the default master page for the site. This has been applied to the two standard pages that come with the Wiki site, however when a new page is created, it seems to inherit the default.master, rather than my custom master page - thus not showing the miniconsole.

When I have created a new page, I am able to use SharePoint Designer to attach my custom master page to it, which works perfectly, however this will not be a viable option going forward as end-users create their new wiki pages.

How can I get the new pages to inherit my master page when they are created?
