Trying to SYNC Project Professional to Sharepoint 2010 - what template do I use?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I want to use Sharepoint 2010 to sync, and track/record changes initiated from my Project Professional 2010 projects.  The intent is to have a web view (ideally editable) for my team to track work progress. Documentation is light right now for Sharepoint 2010/Project 2010.  Does anyone know: 1) Can Project Pro 2010 be sync'd with only the generic TASKS list template, or can it (should it) be sync'd with one of the other templates - like PROJECT TASKS, ISSUES LIST, or STATUS LIST? 2) Are there any Microsoft mapping diagrams showing what MS Project 2010 fields are mapped to Sharepoint 2010 fields? Since this jumps between 2 platforms, please let me know if I need to address this on the MS Project Pro 2010 forum.  Thanks.

SharePoint sync with Project 2010 - issues

I am having some issues with syncing project 2010 and sharepoint.

The following scenario works well...

Create plan.
Sync to sharepoint list.
Save Project file.

However the following scenario  does not work well...

Create plan.
Sync to Sharepoint list.
Forget to save project file.

When i re-open project file and sync, i get the error...

The task list was last synchronized to a different project plan. If you continue the task list will be appended to the project plan.
If I continue at this stage then i get a naming error.

One workaround is to delete all the project plan tasks and re-sync.
This brings all the sharepoint tasks back into the project file..
However, I cannot use the existing milestone field in SharePoint to sync with the project file.

Is there any way to sync project fields into existing columns in SharePoint?

I do not want to create a new column as i have a number of views with the old milestone column as part of a filter.

Any ideas?

Sharepoint and Project Professional 2010

A couple of weeks ago one of my employees ran into an issue with Project Professional 2010 crashing on her.

I did some troubleshooting, and found that Project only crashes when I try to open more than one document from Windows Explorer view.  If I have Project open and use the File --> Open method, I am able to open multiple documents without having it crash.

I checked everything on her computer from hardware, to bad sectors, Windows restore, ect.  I was advised to just leave the issue alone since there was a workaround.  Of course I wasn't satisfied with this solution, so I did some more exploring today and found the following:

Project Professional crashes only when opening more than one document from Windows Explorer view using Sharepoint.  The employee keeps all of her files on Sharepoint and opens/edit the documents from Sharepoint.  I tried pulling a couple of her Project docs into her documents folder on her personal machine, opened both of them, and it worked just fine.

Does anyone know why Project Pro would crash when opening multiple documents in Windows Explorer view from Sharepoint?  We are running Sharepoint 2010.

Sharepoint 2010: User Profile Sync with Person attributes

Sorry for opening another post following this, but I think this case is quite concrete: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010general/thread/2fa02093-630e-4131-bdc7-0b979067f601 When trying to configure in Sharepoint 2010 - User Profile Application, an additional sync source from BDC (as at least, one LDAP Profile is required). The first approach was to create a straightforward SQL Connection with SP Designer, and it seemed everything ok, except I'm not able to setup synchronization of "Manager" property, which is great in order to see Silverlight Organization Explorer Webpart. As I have read in the previous post, someone pointed to setup a BDC with Visual Studio 2010, so one attribute is of type: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPUser. It seamed very logical, and so I tried to do such task. Once I have deployed correctly a BDC with this strong type (SPUser), the result is that I'm still unable to see any attribute when trying to synchronize Manager attribute. In Sharepoint 2007 this was possible, but not able in SP 2010. Any idea of how to do it? Just a bug? I have one very dirty workaround: setup a Timer job to run after Sync, so I can setup this field by code. But, for doing this, I would not need to run Sync process with BDC anymore.    Evotec Consulting

Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

Create a Site template with subsites in Sharepoint Server 2010

Hi, I'm with my first SharePoint project, and we are using server 2010 as a Document Management system. The thing is our company has about 300 customers, and we have to create 300 site collections, 1 per customer.  For each site collection, I use the blank site template, and it's very simple page, as I just need a document library in the home page, and then I need to create a subsite called "cases" and the inside profiles, the users create a document library for each case. For subsite I mean, I create a new site and I choose the option to share the top menu, so basically the site has 2 tabs. So basically what I need is a template that has 2 tabs, Home and Cases. Home with a document library in home and Cases empty. Is there a simple way to achieve this? I guess maybe I have to edit some XML files to create a Site Template. If this is the case, can someone point me to the right documentation. Second, I need to create a Visual Basic project so that the final user has a form, and he just inputs the Customer Name and the code must automatically create a new site with the template I metioned before. I guess that once I have the template this won't be very hard to achieve, as I have seen this SPSite class. The question is, can I have the template with the 2 tabs, o maybe I have to use 2 templates, and write code to create the home site and the Cases Subsite.. Ple

Cannot publish InfoPath 2010 form template to SharePoint Server 2010 RC

Hi all, I am MSFT in Vietnam. I created a SharePoint list using InfoPath 2010 RTM 64bit. After publishing it to SharePoint 2010 RC, I see an error message:  Click on button "Show Details" the message is The list schema does not match the schema of this form. Refresh the data source and publish the form again. When I create new item based on published SharePoint list, I can see plain form not browser enabled InfoPath form. I checked InfoPath Form Services, everything seems to be good. What should I do to publish SharePoint list from InfoPath 2010 to SharePoint 2010 as browser enabled form?

Create site template and adding subsite using site template is broken in sharepoint 2010

I am trying to create a site template base on an existing site and try to use the new site template to generate other sub-sites.  It sounds simple and the code is not that difficult to follow; however, Microsoft has made it impossible to accomplish by having a bug in their template creation process.   //Generate web template from existing website using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost")) { SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb("/barrington/accounting"); web.SaveAsTemplate("NewDepartmentTemplate", "NewDepartmentTemplate", "NewDepartmentTemplate", true); }   //Generate sub site using the new template using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost")) { SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb("/barrington/accounting"); SPWebTemplate tp = null; foreach (SPWebTemplate wt in web.GetAvailableWebTemplates((uint)1033)) { if (wt.Title == "NewDepartmentTemplate") { tp = wt; break; } } if (tp != null) { SPWeb newWeb = web.Webs.Add("NewDepartment", "NewDepartment", "NewDepartment", (uint)1033, tp, false, false); } } Error: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was unhandled   Message=The content type name '$Resources:_FeatureId367b94a9-4a15-42ba-b4a2-32420363e018,DataSourceContentTypeName;' cannot contain: \  / : * ? Using Freeware SharePoint Foundation 2010 with BLOB extender for large scale deployment project.

Hi Everyone, If I'd like to deploy SharePoint 2010 Foundation with Express DB (no SQL Server) what's the limitation ? and suppose i have implemented BLOB extender from freeware 3rd partyhttp://www.avepoint.com/sharepoint-storage-extender-docave/ does that means i can deploy more than 4 GB of data and it should perform faster since the SQL Express is not loaded with BLOB (document binaries). Can anyone clarify this matter please ? Thanks. /* Infrastructure Support Engineer */

WSS 3.0 Knowledge Base Template doesn't function properly after SharePoint 2010 migration

I migrated our WSS 3.0 instance to SharePoint 2010 in a dev environment.  So far, everything works with the exception of the most heavily utilized portion of our WSS 3.0 installation – which is a "Knowledge Base" sub-site utilizing the following features:   Knowledge Base List Instances: List Instances for the Knowledge Base Application Template Knowledge Base Modules: Modules for the Knowledge Base Application Template Knowledge Base Provisioning Handler   Link to Knowledge Base Template http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=BC4E5C4E-FBBB-4666-8E32-C4CEE09E1FE6&displaylang=en   Two issues exist with the Knowledge Base after migrating.   1.       The “Write new Article” feature which uses a content type called “Wiki Knowledge Base Article” use to open a “New Wiki Page” that provided the all of the associated fields specified in the List Content type settings.  Upon creating the new Wiki Page (i.e. Knowledge base article) it would associate it with the “Knowledge Base” document library.  The “Write new Article” feature now fails to utilize / recognize the Content Type settings and instead create a blank New Page without any fields except for “New page name:” and also creates a “Site Pages&
