Search Results Customization - Display Document LibraryTitle Instead of Document Metadata Title

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I am running a pretty basic SharePoint 2010 setup that is being used as an intranet for my organization.  This also includes service up internal documents to our users.  Currently, our documents are displayed on various pages using the CQWP and are organized by title as dictated by the document library title.  As part of the search capabilities of this site, I have implemented a basic search page to return results on the documents from this list.  The problem I am running into is that the search results are displaying results based on the metadata title of the actual document instead of the assigned document library title. My questions are this: How do I change the search results so they display based on the document library title? How do I view what columns are currently being crawled by the search capabilities? Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide!

How can I prioritise search results to show where document metadata has a hit first and then where t

When my users run a search against a site with a bunch of document libraries they will often search for terms that are in the title of the doc, if they do know the title they will put that in. What I would like to do is have the results ordered such that if any hits are on the document metadata (eg Title) then they are presented first and any results that are from hits on the content of the documents are presented later.

So, if they get the title spot on in their search query that document will appear first .... if they don't get it right then the likelyhood is that the title is something like what they entered so similar titled docs are presented first and then those with matching content ....

How can I achieve this?

Search results doesn't show Word document Title Properties

The search result doesn't show the Word document's Title properties.

For example a Office 2007 Word document has Title properties as "Dell, Template (MN 520287) Test Method", the first word in the document is "Opearation".

The Search result shows the search result with the first word of the document as the search result as

instead of

Have search results display the filename of a word doc, instead of the Title Metadata

Im currently implementing a campus wide search service, based on MOSS 2007. It obviously indexes a lot of Word documents.

If the word document has no value in its 'Title' metadata (properties of the document) then the filename is displayed in the search results page, and if a title value is present then this is shown instead. However, whoever created our word templates put the value SU_REPORT into the title value of the template and so ALL of our documents now have this in (yes stupid i know!) Nobody every changes these, so we have a lot of docs that when displayed in the search results show a meaningless name of SU_REPORT

So my question is, can  i modify the behaviour of search so that if the title is blank OR the title = "SU_report" then the filename is displayed instead?

I'm guessing that this is done either via the XSLT to control the display in the Core Results WebPart, or maybe it can be done at the metadata level by disconnecting the title property (i'd rather not do this because it is very occasionally useful!)

Any advice greatfully receieved

Can someone explain how SharePoint determines what to display as the Title of the document for searc

I would it expect it to be the the actual title of the documnet but instead I have noticed that it looks in the document and displays the first word or two as the title.

Search results are not displaying the results related to a particular document library

While using the search box in a site, the search results are not displaying the results related to a particular document library.

What is the reason for this? How can this be solved?

filter search results to specific document library

Hi all.  I have a sharepoint 2007 subsite, which is a small part of a large corporate sharepoint 2007 system.  I only have admin rights on my chunk.

I would like to limit a search to a specific document library within my subsite, and further would like the search results to return additional non-standard meta-data from this library.

Is this something that I can do without creating a new search scope?

WSS 3.0 - How can I get a document ID in Search Results.aspx page.

Does anyone know how I can get the ID of a document in the SearchResults.aspx page?

I have got javascript code in this page to update the link of the icon to edit the document as opposed to viewing it (Need Document ID though).

There must be a way to do this using server side code??????

Your help would be most welcome.

How to display a count of search results with keywords in a label?

Sorry for a basic post here; I am very new to VB!

I am currently building a search page, which includes a textbox and two drop-down lists, a search button, and a datagrid. If results are found and displayed, I would like a label to display:

(e.g.) "24 results found for 'blue sky clouds' "

...where the integer represents the results count, and the keywords and/or drop-down list selections are included in the string.

If no results are found I would like the label to display:

(e.g.) "No results were found that match your selection. Please try again"

I would also like the label to be invisible until a search occurs.

Thanks in advance!

Full text search in a Word document

I´m currently programming a web search application in ASP.Net and having problem with full text searching. My requirements are:

1. Save a byte array from SQL server to word document as a temp file in a server side?

2. How to highlight the string I am currently searching in the Word document and return to the user the sentence with the highlighted string (like on Bing or any other search engines)? Is it possible to fullfill this requirement with full-text search integrated in SQL Server 2008?

Thanks in advance,

Sharepoint 2007 Document Search and Highlight in Office 2007 and PDF

We will be implementing Document Search (DOC, DOCX, PDF, TIFF, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX) for one of our customers. We were evaluating a few MOSS 2007 based solutions, and happened to visit your site.  What we intend to achieve are the following functionalities:

a.       User should be able to search through 1000s of documents which are in a Sharepoint Document Library

b.      The documents could be in English, International Languages.

c.       Each document is 70-100 pages, and therefore it is important that the Search Results show the relevant pages on which the Search Text appears (Get Highlighted) within each document . Clicking on the link will take the user to the right page.

d.      The additional requirement is Synonym search. So, I can search for

Search does not find text in Word document stored in document library on a Report Center site within

We have a document library on a site created off of the Report Center site template. We uploaded a Word 2007 document with the word zebra in the text. Using the search bar at the top of the page we selected This list: Our document library and searched for zebra. We received no results.

We tested the same thing on another site (site template Team site) within the same site collection and search worked fine.

Does the Report Center search function differently then the search functionality on the Team site?

How to maximize use of managed metadata in the document library?

We are creating new Intranet portal based on SharePont 2010 and we have document library with 100-200 documents. Old Intranet is based on previous version of SharePoint. End-users did not like the usability of the document library as it was hierarchical. Users needed to know, which was the folders and its subfolder to find out where is the document. We are currently investigating if we can solve this problem by using managed metadata. We know how to define term set and how to give metadata to the document, but we don't know what is the most usable way to utilizem them in the document library. Let say that end-user would like to see all documents that has managed metadata "User Guide". How to configure document library so that users see only those documents. Not all our users are skilled and we have to provide very intuitive way to search relavant documents to them. Some predefined metadata dropdown would be great.Kenny_I

How can I display the notes for a file in a document library?

I have a document library with several office documents in it.  Currently, users select a document and the click the "Tags and Notes" button on the ribbon, then click the "Note Board" tab on the resulting pop-up in order to read or post notes.   What I have been asked for, is a connected web part that would display the notes associated with the currently selected document. The "Note Board" web part does not appear to accept connections.  Am I missing something?  Any ideas? TIA

Search crawler 'breaks' Document ID link

Hi all - we have a Sharepoint 2010 development server up and running (very much Out of the Box configuration). The Document ID functionality has been enabled and appears to be working OK - each document has its own unique ID as predicted. In a team site (Corporate Comms), we have a document library where our corporate logo has been loaded (a small .bmp file). This image file has a unique Document ID. On the top level site, I have created a link to the corporate logo so that it appears on the 'entry' web page. The link to the image is : http://<servername>/_layouts/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=CH07-7-1  where CH07-7-1 is the Document ID When first created, everything works OK and the image appears on the front page. However, once a search crawl has been run (either full or incremental), the image disappears and is replaced by a red cross (i.e. the URL link has been broken). I have tried this with a word document link (as opposed to a .bmp image) and this still works OK. I have also tried storing the image in a picture library (as opposed to a document library) and the same thing happens. Is there something funny happening specific to the .bmp image/Document ID/crawler ? Anything I need to configure ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Richard.
