Single Sign On for Sharepoint and external applications

We would like to set up our Sharepoint 2010 Server to allow for single sign on. Right now when a user accesses the site, they are prompted for their username and password, whenever they open a file from a document library they have to put in their username and password. I am sure there is a way that we can set up Sharepoint to not require this every time they access the site and/or documents, by using their windows login like Dynamics CRM does.   Can anyone assist us in getting this set up properly? Thanks in advance!

How to configure external domain mapping to SharePoint 2010 portal

I have created a SharePoint 2010 portal and I'm trying to configure external host header (www.xyz.com) to it. I bought www.xyz.com from provider where it was mapped to static IP address on the SharePoint server.

I tried the following options in SharePoint Admin and none of them worked.

Single Sign On to external system via iView?

I have Page iView in the SharePoint 2010. I have another non MS based external system where I should make integration. iView is great, but I need authentication as well. What is needed to create SSO to authenticate to the external system and display view to the external system via iView? Is it mandatory to external system to support SSO? Both SharePoint and external system have SSO account mapping?Kenny_I

Can you install SharePoint 2010 and User PerformancePoint in a single server enviroment?

Hi I Installed SharePoint 2010 in a single server farm and I configured a Performance Point service aplication. Whenever I run dashboard designer it seems to work but it eventually crashes. I don´t know if I have any configuration errors. I read this Run the Secure Store Service on a separate application server that is not used for any other service. Create the secure store database on a separate application server running SQL Server. Do not use the same SQL Server installation that contains content databases. Here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee806889.aspx I believe this service is necesary to run connect to data sources does this mean it all cannot be run in the same server.

Sharepoint 2010 popup page issue while sign in as diferrent user

We have a SharePoint 2010 portal in which one of the functionalities opens a list item add form as a popup. We customized this add form using SPD by adding the following java script functions.

<script type="text/javascript">

function PreSaveAction()

 var reqType= document.getElementById("ctl00_xxxxxxxxxxxxx_ctl00_Lookup").value;
 reqType= reqType.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g, '');

 var reqDesc= document.getElementById("ctl00_xxxxxxxxxxxxx_ctl00_TextField").value;
 reqDesc= reqDesc.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g, '');
 var error="";

How to Authenticate User on External Site Using IFrame (Dynamically created in SharePoint WebPart)

I've a situation,

- External Site : This site has its own user store (user/password) to log-in to.

- SharePoint WebPart : This webpart will get some readonly data from External Site but for performing any CURD operation on the External Site the user has to Log-in to External Site using IFrame Mechanism (This login form has to be of External site, and UserName/Passwordd should be posted to login-form of External site) sharepoint shouldn't be collecting any user/password credentials. (how can we do this?)

How user gets authenticated in External Site:

1. user Provides username/password.

2. Once authenticated to User Store it set an Authentication Cookie in use browser, thus uses this cookie with every request to perform any CURD operation.

I've to have the similar functionality in SharePoint Webpart. using IFRAME.

Hope i covered all the points in my explaination, if you can provide any blog/code which is dealing with similar kind of approach.

How to automatically Authenticate User on External Site once Authenticated on SharePoint Site

We analyzing the implementations approach, for a scenario.

  1. External Site: To log-in to external site which has its own user store and is hosted on different domain. So user has to provide his user id and password for logging in to external site like e.g.  DOMAIN1\UserName & Password

  1. SharePoint Site: This site is hosted on different domain other than DOMAIN1 and has got windows/forms authentication. So the user to login to SharePoint site has to provide SharePoint site Credentials DOMAIN2\UserName & Password.
  2. SharePoint Web Part which shows external site in IFrame and allows user to perform CURD operation once the user is authenticated in external site.

What we want is once user login to SharePoint site using (Forms/Windows) authentication, he should be automatically authenticated in External Site (using some mechanism) the logged in user credentials are picked up from some store based on his sharepoint username and system authenticates the user on external site.

Any pointers to code/blogs/articles would be really helpful.

The SharePoint alerts would not go outside company domain. We have many partners users (some have active directory account and some are only in exchange 2007 contacts) and none of them recieve alerts. The internal users recieve alerts no problem there. I have setup relay in exchange 2007. From SharePoint webserver I can telnet/smtp to exchange on port 25 and able to send message. Not sure where  is the problem? can any one help?

Hide SharePoint Ribbon for anonymous user (Not the Sign In Link)

We need to hide the Sharepoint 2010 ribbon for anonymous users. But we should have the Sign In Link (which is a part of the Ribbon, I believe). Please let me know the steps for this.

The Sharepoint site has been setup for custom form based authentication.

Sharepoint Search Server Express 2008 can not index external domain fileshare with valid account

Since i have understood that sharepoint 2008 search express doesn't do any security trimming i am trying to index an external fileshare (on a non trusted domain) with it. After authenticating with the external domain account I can manually access all the files in that share i need to. Sharepoint 2008 search express somehow is unable to use the crawl rule in which i specified a different content access account (which is the external domain account).It continuously gives the error "Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content, or add a crawl rule to crawl this content."

Exactly the same configuration works fine with sharepoint search server 2010, but that does do security trimming and because of the share being completely external my users could't see any search results.

Any suggestions?

Granting external non-domain users SharePoint 2007 access?

Hello all,

As you can well surmise, I've installed SharePoint 2007 on a server and require assistance. We have two sites. The primary site is for internal use only and the other site, a sub-site, is for communications and collaboration with select colleague organizations who are not members of our domain. How can I add these users to allow them access to this sub-site without giving them user accounts in our domain?

What I have done so far is enable SSO and add our users to have rights on the root site. That all works. I then created the sub-site. As a test from a thread I found, I added my GMail account username as a local user account on the SharePoint server. This did, indeed, allow me to add that user and give him rights to login, but I discovered that there is no way to modify the user's profile and, thusly, cannot specify an email address. What good is SharePoint is you can't get email notifications from it?

It then occured to me to create a new user group in the DC and create accounts for them there while at the same time limiting their access to only the SharePoint server and not have any local or remote login rights. Interestingly, the accounts will login after three tries, and then shows blank pages.

Anyway, what I need is to get these users in, have enough profile information that they can receive email from the server as neede

Domain Group Policy to Map user folder in Sharepoint Library to network drive

This is complicated- and try as I might I can't get it right. I am running SBS 2008 SP2 with WSS 3.0 SP3.

I have my sharepoint site at http://companyweb. I have WebClient and WebPublishing services enabled.

The scenario I am trying for:

I have a document library in Sharepoint called Wellness Boxes. Inside this library each domain user has a folder- these folders are to store personal files. Each folder is configured with permissions via Sharepoint so that only the user and their direct manager has access. When a user enters the library, they only see their own folder.

I am trying to map this situation to network places. I want users to be able to click Start>Computer>Network and see a drive labeled Companyweb. Entering that drive will show them the document library Wellness Boxes, and only their own folder will be visible.

I need to do this at a domain level through Group Policy so it applies to all users and all computers. Drive letters do not matter. Permissions do matter.

Can anyone help me please?
