Hi, I ran into a MOSS instance, running in one single server with only SQL Server running on the side. There is one BDC app configured, to call an external webservice. The question is, there is this service running, "MSSQL$BDC" Dos this mean that there is some sort of SQL Express installed in the Web Front End for BDC configurations? If so, is there any way to move this to the main SQL? Thanks, JC

MSSQL 2008 R2: Change Server Collation Steps, with user DBs already of desired collation

On the default instance of SQL Server 2008 R2, I want to change the server collation from the usual US default SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS to an application vendor's required collation, Latin1_General_BIN.  I understand that changing the server collation is essentially the same as changing the collation of databases master and model -- is that a fair statement? But my main question is, since there are user databases on the server that I would like to preserve, can I not simply detatch the user DBs prior to performing the server collation change, and then reattach?  The database collation of the user databases is already set to Latin1_General_BIN.  This article, Setting and Changing the Server Collation, at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179254.aspx says that to preserve the user databases, I should script all DB objects out, and bulk-copy all data out, because the DBs will have to be recreated and repopulated.  Can someone explain why I ought not simply detach and reattach the user DBs, given that they are already of the desired collation (i.e., the same collation that I will be changing the server collation to)? Your help much appreciated. -Tom

MSSQL CE 3.5 SP2 Private Deployment

I use Visual C# express 2008 for my development.  I use MSSQL CE3.5 SP1 and have deployed this will my application for over a year as a private deployment (just included all the DLLs in my project).  This has worked well and kept me from being dependent on the product deployments.  I am running into an issue with the application deploying on Windows 7 64-bit home edition.  From my readings it seems that I need to upgrade to the MSSQL CE 3.5 SP2 but the indication is that I need to deploy 32-bit and the 64-bit SP2 for the 64-bit environements.  Since my development environment is on Windows XP I have not found a way to obtain the 64-bit version of the DLLs to include in my project as a private deployment.  Can I do this?  Is there a better way?  Where can I get the 64-bit DLLs. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.David Allen

Alternative to deprecated xp_readmail in MSSQL

I have inherited an MSSQL2000 application that uses xp_findnextmsg & xp_readmail to extract stuff from emails & insert it into the db.   It will need to be upgraded sometime soon, either to 2005 or perhaps 2008:  However, I note that both xp_findnextmsg & xp_readmail are deprecated, & that Database Mail is apparently for sending only, not for reading.  Have I got this wrong?   This would not appear to be a unique need.  Any clues gratefully received.   regards, Ian

Extended stored procs on 64 bit MSSQL 2008

We need to develop some extended stored procedures for 64-bit SQL Server 2008. We have written the DLL in Visual C++ but when we try to register it with the database, we see the following error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not load the DLL c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\xp_test.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: 193(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105).(42000,17750) Procedure(xp_test) Can anyone please tell me if you have come across such an issue and how it was successfully resolved?

VS 2010 MSSql 2008, ASP.net and Win 7

What is all the confusion about this combination of software?  Thsi appears to be the latest versions and one would think that it would also be the most up to date versions to use with the latest OS.  But I cannot find out where to learn how to use the tools because there does not appear to be any lessons oor tutorials free or paid that provide the latest releases of these tools.  I cannot get a demonstration of installation or a how to use that matches what I have on my system.  This just does not make any sense for this to be this obtuse.  I started out trying to learn ASP.NET and I have found myself in a quaqmire of installation issues operation issues,  warinings etc and yet no definitive tool for learining how to use the latest versions.  Can some one tell me where to go I do not mind paying for a tutorial or course that will get me aquainted with the technology.  AS it is I become more confused at each corner.  I can see  why many people just go with PHP and MYSQL with WAMP SERVER or XAMP.  This is border line ridiculous is this the future of this " powerful technology"?Hoping for the best, MIKE E

MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups install to Win 7 - Compatibility issues

I attempted to install MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups from the DVD to a Win 7 workstation.  Error "This Program has known compatibility issues.  The directions are to download the MSSQL Server Service Pack.  I downloaded SP 1 and SP 2.  Neither SP will install.  The DVD install also has a run option displayed along with the Compatibility message.  I select "Run" and it appeared to install, with Start\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server 2008\Configuration Tools\ SQL Server Installation Center 64bit.  However, running the 64bit installation process results in no change.  My question is how to install the MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups on the Win 7 machine.  I would appreciate your thoughts.

DtsPipelineComponent not available to C#; no dll in MSSQL path

I have SQL Server, BIDS and SSIS on a server that never had another version of any of those packages installed.  I want to use a community project Custom Component - CodePageConvert.  I have to compile the project.  It fails at using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline; using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper; using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper; Those aren't available; when I try to add a project reference in Visual Studio they aren't available.  I try Find File from Windows explorer, and not files have "Pipeline" in their names under these folders: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs and C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server   So should those assemblies all be available and I should reinstall or repair SSIS, or am I misunderstanding some feature?   Thanks

I have MSSQLSERVER (Running - \\D1XFZ9C1\SQLEXPRESS-MSSQL Server) running. Under my Programs I have MicroSoft SQL Server 2005 but the only items listed are Configuration Tools. Am I missing something? I am trying to run a CREATE DATABASE query in order to create a database for PRO WPF using VB 2008 (Visual Studio 2008) but I don't know where to run it. Can anyone please help as I am new to this.

MSSQL 2008 R2 - database in restoring mode after backup - forever..

Hi folks,   i have this problem that occourred today with one instance of MSSQL 2008 R2 running on a WIN x64 R2 enterprise server.   i have run a backup maintainance job and now i have two databases in restoring mode for over 4hrs.   my questions are: why are these databases restoring when i was backing up? and why are they not being logged anywhere - i can not find anything on logs, activty monitor, or even Windows Resource Monitor.   i can not see any work been done by MSSQL to restore these databases, and yet they are set as 'RESTORING'.   any suggestion from the community here will be much appreciated as i am banging my head against the wall already.   thanks,   Nicolas    data warehouse | data migration | ETL/ELT | UK | http://www.brainpowered.net

MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups install to Win 7 - Compatibility issues

The DVD install for MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups to Win 7 fails due to known compatibility issues.  I asked for help in the Getting Started with SQL Server Forum and followed a recommendation to slipstream installation with SP1. I followed the procedures at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/joaol/archive/2009/03/20/how-to-install-sql-server-2008-with-sp1-built-in-slipstream-installation.aspx I then ran Setup.exe from the C:\SQLServer2008 folder.  It failed with the following .Net Framework error.  (I previously installed .Net Framework Version 4 which is required by the application needing SQL Server.)  Thanks for help. Microsoft.NET Framework Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.  If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.  If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for userSettings/Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.LandingPage.Properties.Settings: Could not load file or assembly 'System.
