Search Server Gatherer - Custom hierarchical protocol handler ISearchProtocol for MOSS 2010

Hi,

Search server gatherer calls CloseAccessor() and shutdown() on ISearchProtocol after GetChunk() even if the FILTER_E_END_OF_CHUNKS is not returned. After calling shutdown() it stops calling the createaccessor() with new URL. I want to create a hierarchical indexing but I am not gatherer is not suporting this. The same piece of code is working fine in MOSS 2007, I am facing this issue in MOSS 2010 only. Is there anything changed in MOSS 2010 which is creating this issue?

Thanks,

Lalitesh

Can I shut down wss search services on my MOSS box?

On Moss 2007, there are two search services WSS and MOSS. As Moss search provides all functions from WSS, can I shut down WSS search services?

Customizing Search Results page in MOSS

Hello!

The Search Results page in MOSS seems to list the results as links by default. My customer asked me if I could customize the search results so that they show in a data view web part. Is this possible?

Thanks!

MOSS 2007 Backup Strategies

I saw some backup strategy best practices papers stating you could backup the databases and site content separately, but was told by Microsoft that if you do that, and have to do a bare metal restore you will not be able to recover because the site content and database will be out of sync. Does anyone have a proven DR process for MOSS 2007 that they can share? We have Commvault in house right now, but are using it only to backup the databases and file system separately. Should we be using the built in sharepoint backup stdadm(sp?) tools?

Cannot start wss search in MOSS farm

Hi

MOSS farm: 1 index, 1 WFE,  SQL cluster

When we try to start the wss search service from the web UI we gat a 'system policies must have full control' message. I can start it manually but the app log is full of event ID's 6482:

Application Server Administration job failed for service instance Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance (da839862-de1b-4d3e-9015-3f23999ad32a).

Reason: System policies must have Full Control.

Techinal Support Details:

There is an additional similar event (event ID 6483) that we also see regularly in the event log concerning Excel services:

Search content of different languages in one language of MOSS

Hi, Hope you guys can help to answer this Search question. E.g. English MOSS is installed, content in English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Japanese are input to the system (either in Word/Excel file, ASPX page, Blog entry or Wikis page). In this case, how can the user search content by entering search keywords in languages other than English? The reason I ask this question is that: MOSS Search Engine uses English work-breaker/stemmer in the crawling and query process in MOSS English Version. Then, it cannot distinguish which languages are being crawled, e.g. pretending Japanese and Chinese as English when crawling the content. Is there any advanced way to solve this issue in MOSS 2007, besides installing various languages of MOSS in different servers? This problem exists in SharePoint 2003, so now I wonder if there is any improvement in 2007. As you know this is especially important in HK environment. Every customer ask the same question in Pre-Sales demo. Thanks in advance. Paul

Differential Backup

I have SQL Servers both 2000 and 2005 and I wanted to perform backups daily, so I want the backups to have Datetime stamp therefore I can distinguish between the different files. I have 2 questions 1.I'm going to use the following script to run a full backup on the sql 2005 server but I wanted to know if there is a way to perform the same thing in the sql server 2000 server. declare @CheckDate [nvarchar](50), @Title [nvarchar](100) set @CheckDate = replace(replace(convert(nvarchar(50),getdate(),120),':',''), ' ', '_') set @Title = N'E:\DataWarehouse_Microstrategy_'+@CheckDate+''+'.bak' BACKUP DATABASE [DataWarehouse_Microstrategy] TO DISK = @Title WITH NOFORMAT, INIT, NAME = N'DataWarehouse_Microstrategy-Full Database Backup', SKIP, NOREWIND, NOUNLOAD,STATS = 10 ; 2. I need to perform a differential backup for both on sql 2000 and sql 2005 and I wanted to know a way of doing the differential backup but delete files that are old e.g any files that are older then 4 weeks. Thank you in advance

Is there a way to make SPS 2003 search fields search the MOSS indexes?

Here's my situation: We're doing a gradual migration from SPS to MOSS. Can anyone tell me if there's an easy way to make the SPS search fields search the MOSS indexes? The easiest way I can think of is to great a web part for SPS which will gather the scope and search param and redirect the user to the MOSS search result page. If there's an easier way. I'm all ears.

Weird Issue with the MOSS Search : FileExtension metadata object type instead of string

Hello, We 've got a strange issue with the search and especially with the FileExtension metadata. when we make a query on the search engine, we receive for the FileExtension metadata an unexcpected result. here is a printscreen showing the issue. http://cid-53eee937847a625e.photos.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Untitled.jpg as you can see the Type of the FileExtension is object and it should be string and I checked the type of the object and it's System.String[] the element at the index 0 contains the value! what's wrong ? thx in advance

MOSS Search Not Returning Results from A List

Hello All,   Problem: The MOSS Search is not returning results from a subsite (and list within it). It however returns results for most of the other sites in the web application. Environment: 2 Application Servers. One of these is the index and query server. The same server is also the search server for the content databases. 5 web front end servers. Other Notes: The MOSS installation has several web applications. We however have one site within it that is not returning the required results. The results that we are looking for are located in a particular list. When one searches against the items in the list, some appear and others do not. We also get results from RSS feeds that track changes to the list in the last week. Also, some of the results returned are links to the new item in the list (that is, when you click on new to create a new item). There are no search errors in the application log. The web application was recently upgraded from WSS 3.0 on a single server to MOSS 2007 in a server farm. There are no sql index errors. The WSS Search and Office Search Services are working and have been restarted. The credentials have also been re-entered. We get less than 20 errors in the crawl logs (out of close to 800k docs). I have checked the rights for the default content access account, and it has dbo rights to the content db and search db. It also has read (and now admin

Full Farm Backup Fails on Windows Sharepoint Services Search Database

I am just now starting to us central administration to backup the entire sharepoint farm.  All content backups fine except for the Search Database.  In looking through the backup log, it appears that the search database may not exist.  How can I determine if the search database actually does exist and if it does not can it be recreated?

People search in MOSS 2007

Hi,

I don’t know much about the search settings in SharePoint. I have a requirement like I want to enable the people search for one of the SharePoint site which was created by someone else.

I know that people search will be activated by default if we choose the site template as collaboration portal, but in this case I am not sure about the template they used to create. By the way is there any way to find out which site template they used to create the site; that is apart.

What are the settings required to enable the people search in MOSS 2007.

Search returns nothing, crawler works fine(i believe) in MOSS 2007

Hello,

i did some research in the forum before posting, but i can't seem to find a real solution for my problem, even though there are many threads discussing similar or maybe even the same problem. I will describe the problem in short, and then if someone can help me out and needs more info i can give more details etc.

So, i am new in my enterprise, and also to "real" informatics (recently graduated master 2) and i am supposed to administer the internal IT of the company. The SharePoint expert of my company just changed job, so i was kinda hired to replace him. The problem is, i have limited experience with SharePoint, just had my 70-630 yesterday but i am no expert.

The problem with our SharePoint is that the search won't work(doh!). The crawler is working fine, we get things indexed etc, but then searches return nothing. I tried playing with scopes but as far as i can see, it's not that. What's weird is that apparently the search worked fine at some point in the past, then just mysteriously stopped. I discussed with the ex-admin and we tried to fix it, but we couldn't get it working.

I am kinda stuck, don't know where to look and which settings i need to check, on what le
