Server Farm and machine.config machineKey value mismatch

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hi,I'm writing an application that is deployed on web server farm. I've tried to get the machineKey from all the servers but admins have denied my request stating security concern. I have no way of knowing if they match or not. This is the error I get sometimes-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- System.Web.HttpException: Validation of viewstate MAC failed. Server Farm Config not Complete

I am setting up SP 2007 on a Win 2003 R2 in a Win2003 domain. SP is using a small farm with one server for the DB and another for everything else.

When I open the Central Admin page I get in large red letters "Server Farm Configuration Not Complete." But as far as I can see it is. Both the application/web server and DB server are listed correctly under "Farm Topology."

I can't find anything that tells me what to do!

Documenting Server Config via Powershell + DB/Farm Back: Sufficient?

After reading through some of the posts about Sharepoint 2010's weaknesses with internal (Admin Console) backups, and discovering that a full Configuration Backup is necessary (see: http://www.benjaminathawes.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=10 and http://sharepointinterface.com/2010/09/10/configuration-only-backup-and-restore-in-sharepoint-2010/ ), I'm a bit concerned.

Is it the case that running the powershell utility (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff645391.aspx) is sufficient for restoration purposes (does it capture all the essential data?) OR do we need to go through and take screenshots of all of our config screens?

What does your backup strategy?

Virtual Server 2005: Program Customized Testing Environments Without Trashing Your Machine

Efficient testing can require many different machine and server configurations but the effort needed to manage these test environments can take a toll. Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 simplifies the provisioning and management of testing environments. This article demonstrates how the extensive Virtual Server COM API can be used to create an automated application testing environment to make your testing chores a whole lot easier.

All my server-controls became unrecognized!!! like there's compilation error or web.config missing!

please help - the problem is in post subject.

I have lots of warnings with following text:

"Warning 10 Element 'HyperLink' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the web.config file is missing. C:\Users\Pavel\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\WebSites\BioWebSite\ToScientist.aspx 26 18 C:\...\BioWebSite\"

But web.confg is there! And there's no compilation error!

Site builds just fine. And If I upload it to my hoster - it works!

But with all these errors I cant add controls to pages - VS2010 adds hyperlink without ID, and intelisens stoped to work.

Strange, but in my other project (web-application) I have no such difficuty.

Sharepoint farm lost a server... How to proceed?

Had a Sharepoint farm I inherited that was running on ____ hardware in a ____ setup- raid controller failed, and the rack was setup so that I have to down 15 servers that might not come back up, just to get at the server... Complete, unrecoverable failure. This server was a member of our Sharepoint 2007 farm, and had Reporting Services on it. There are a lot of little pieces that are still referenced in the Central Configuration. I removed the server forcibly, and need to know next steps, specifically:

1. I tried to move Reporting Services to another server, but I get an error in the Grant Database privileges that I cannot connect to the Report Server's WMI Provider. I created a SPN on a DC, forced a replication a few hours ago, and still no luck. Any Advice?

2. How do I fix all the little things that reference that server? Anytime Sharepoint initiates a web page to Central Administration, it tries to use that server address.

I think the failed server was running SQL 2008 or SQL 2008 R2, and the server I am moving this to is SQL 2005 SP2. I have installed the correct Reporting Services for Sharepoint. Have I missed something?

Time is of the essence because management relies on Reporting Services and I am under a great deal of pressure to fix this. I appreciate any help I can get.

Facing MSDTC related issues while archiving data from one database server machine to another databas

I have a question with respect to distributed transactions when carried out between two database server machines on the same network.   Consider there are two database server machines \SOURCE_DATABASE_SERVER\ and \DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\. Now we have to archive the data from one database server to other database server.   Let us suppose the database server \SOURCE_DATABASE_SERVER\ is the live production database server and \DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\ is Long term storage database server. Now data from \SOURCE_DATABASE_SERVER\ needs to be archived into the database server \DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\.   So I have written a dynamic stored procedure which includes distributed transaction (begin Tran, commit Tran, rollback            Tran) coding in it.   Now initially when I executed the procedure, it gave some of the following errors   1) OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "\DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\" returned message "The partner transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions.". Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "\DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.

Login Failed for User "XXX" when login from a ETL machine for Sql Server 2005 SP2

Hi Guys, I have a straange issue with Login Failed errors coming intermittently probabaly twice in a week: I have a  production Database on Server A and we have Two ETL servers on Server B and Server C. Sometimes when the ETL's (SSIS) run from SERVER B I do get an error stating login failed for user "XXX" this user is a sql server user. And when I run the same package from Server C it does not give any error and runs smoothly. Both the packages uses the same configuration file to connect to the same database with the same user credentials. Also this error is not a frequent error but comes along once or twice in a weeK. Can anyone shed some light on this and let me know the root cause. Both servers have the same sql client version as well. All servers mentioned above are 64 bit windows 2003 servers. Raju

SQL Server Configuration Manager: Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion

I have a SQL Server 2005 box that was moved from a domain environment to a non-domain environment and was never dropped from its original domain before moving over.  Subsequently a new domain was created at the data center this SQL Server box now resides in.  The machine was dropped from its old domain and joined to the new one.   All the while the service accounts were set to the local admin account.  When I tried to start the Configuration Manager I got the message "Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion.".  I read some blog entries and tried changing all the service accounts to Local System and the error message still came up.   All of the SQL Server services run fine.  It is just this management console that I cannot open.  I wasn't with this employer when this box was moved to the data center so I do not know if it worked prior and there isn't anyone here that could give me its history.   Any help would be appreciated.

SSMS on networked machine - can see server but not instance

Hi, We have been running sql server 2008 enterprise on a single networked machine (SBS 2008) which is also runs DHCP and DNS.  We have bought a new server to just run SQL Server 2008 and I cannot manage to connect to it via SSMS from my laptop - I can see the server but not the instance.   Here is roughly what I have done: Installed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise on the box Installed SQL Server 2008 Enterprise on the box Create a named instance Configured instance to listen on TCP 1533 Created a new firewall rule to allow traffic through on TCP 1533 Created a new rule for sqlsrvr.exe on the firewall I have the services loging on with the following accounts: SQL Server Integration Services 10.0 = DOMAIN\dbadmin = running = automatic SQL Server Analysis Services = DOMAIN\dbadmin = running = automatic SQL Server (namedinstance) = DOMAIN\dbadmin = running = automatic SQL Full-text Filter Daemon Launcher = NT AUTHORITY\LocalService = running = manual SQL Server Reporting Services = NT AUTHORITY\LocalService = running = automatic - this is installed but not configured SQL Server Agent = DOMAIN\dbadmin = Stopped = manual SQL Server Browser = LocalSystem = running = automatic When I log onto the new box as a domain user and log into management studio on my laptop I can then suddenly see the instance and connect. It sounds to me that it is a permissions / acc

Updating Config Files in Sharepoint Farm

I am trying to update config files web.comnfig in the Virtual Directory of my server so that users are allowed to upload more that 50 MB of files in my IIS 7 server. Everytime i do the update it works fine but after few days when there are few changes then it removes the added elements itself and restore in the Original Stage. I used to edit my config files manually. I found a way of creating a config files and saving it to the Config Directory under 12 Hive in Server. Like the Content will be similar as follows <actions>    <add path="configuration/SharePoint/SafeControls">       <SafeControl          Assembly="System.Web, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral,             PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"          Namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls"          TypeName="*"          Safe="True"/>    </add>   </actions> I have to add following line <system.webServer>     <security>       <requestFiltering>         <requestLimits maxAllowedCon

The URL 'ao/AO Document/Admin Guideline/xxxxx.jpg' error on 2nd SharePoint server in farm

We just added a 2nd SP2007 server to mirror our site.  The original site is in China, the new site in the US.  They are connected via a permanent  site to site VPN.  We are hitting the errors when attempting to upload files to the US mirror.    Environment: US server site: OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (64 bit) APP: Windows Sharepoint Server 2007 Enterprise SP2 (64 bit) DB: Windows SQL Server 2008 Enterprise R2 (64 bit) China site: OS: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2 (32 bit) APP: Windows Sharepoint Server 2007 Enterprise SP2 (32 bit) DB: Windows SQL Server 2008 Enterprise R2 (32 bit) Background: We setup two test Sharepoint farm to be syncronized with only its content database. The upload works good on SZ site. But we got the following 2 error messages randomly when uploading file to document library of SF side. Error message: 1. The URL 'ao/AO Document/Admin Guideline/xxxxx.jpg' is invalid.  It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web. 2. Cannot open file "ao/AO Document/Admin Guideline/xxxxx.jpg". -- We've tried the official hotfix, altering the schema, changing the IIS memory limit settings, and restarting the application pool. Could the issue be related to the different OSes 2008 vs 2003, or 32 vs 64bit?

Failed to change Farm Account in Sharepoint 2010 server, now Central Administration is not accessibl

Hello, I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the domain on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, for the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount. The account name was too long to be as a Windows 2000 name, so it showed there without last 't', e.g. MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccoun. I thought, Windows 2000 is long gone, so I didn't pay much attention, I think everywhere the account SID is important. I don't know if that is the real problem with my failure later, but it might be one of the reasons. I put MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pre
