I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and my database is SQL Server 2000. I want to add a connection to the Server Explorer in VS. The Data source is Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). After entering in all my information and I click Test Connection, it is successful. But when I click OK, I get the error: Unable to add data connection. ExecuteScalar requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is closed.What's going on here?

One of our IIS App pools serving a SharePoint site on one of the  Web Front End  went down suddenly at around 1pm today. "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" from IE7 - ASP.NET Development Server Error?

Dear everybody, I've just installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 on Windows Vista Ultimate. I created "New Web Site" and Started Debugging the page to see the blank page rendered. To my surprise, IE 7.0 displayed an error message saying: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I spent some time investigating and here is the result: The page going to be rendered assumes port 49791: http://localhost:49791/WebSite3/Default.aspx The ASP.NET Development Server operates under different port no: 49793 After changing the url above manually to use the port of ASP.NET Development Server, the webpage gets renderred correctly: http://localhost:49793/WebSite3/Default.aspx ASP.NET Development Server uses dynamic ports. I noticed that Debugging process always assumes port number lower by 2 than the real port number of the ASP.NET DevSer. Therefore Debug process never runs and displays the page. I do not want to manually edit the local host URL after every page rebuild, so my question is following: How to make the "Start Debugging" function to use appropriate port of the ASP.NET Development server? How to make Visual Studio to open the page being debugged? To mention couple of things I tried: I reinstalled Visual Studio2008, tried to disabled IPv6 as some threads recommen

I have a web page that contains a ReportViewer control.  I am trying to display a report, which is an .rdl file located on the SSRS server, in this ReportViewer control.  I have set the ReportPath and ReportServerUrl correctly.  I am getting an error message. Am I suppose to use an .rdlc file rather than a .rdl file?  Does the web server configuration need to use a certain account?  I am getting the following error message: The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Error 15401 when adding AD logins in upper case to a sql 2008 server

We are repeatedly getting Error 15401 when adding couple AD logins in upper case(DOMAIN_NM\USR_NM) to a sql 2008 server with the latin1_general, binary sort collation.  Lower case (DOMAIN_NM\usr_nm) works fine.  All the other servers, even the ones with the same collation, it is the opposite, upper case works and not the lower case.  Looked for duplicate SIDs in the domain, on the sql server, did not find any.  Any idea what's going on?.

Error Enrolling Instance In Utility Explorer SQL Server 2008R2

When I try enrolling an instance the enrollment errors with "The collection sets on the specified instance of SQL Server must be stopped." I have stopped all the collection sets in various manners including disabling the scheduled job, all with no success. Any suggestions as to what else I can check? I have successfully enrolled another instance on the same server. Thanks!

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server

I just opened the project. Yesterday everything worked fine. It does not work any link database.

I can't get Reporting Services to work with Sharepoint.

I've followed the instructions for installation of Reporting Service in SharePoint Integrated Mode, and completed the indicated steps on the SharePoint Central Administration Site successfully.  When I try to create a page with a Reporting Services Webpart, I get the following error:

===========================

Invalid object name 'History'.
----------------------------
An error occurred within the report server database.  This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. (rsReportServerDatabaseError)

============================

I have SQL 2008 R2, SharePoint Enterprise 2010, and Report Builder 3.0.  SQL and Sharepoint are installed on the same server.

I'm certain that there isn't a disk or timeout problem, so I'm assuming that it's a connection failure, but don't know what steps to take to troubleshoot and correct this.

Thanks

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server

Hi,

I've created a small website with a simple sqlite database using vwd 2010 .net 4. In dev and test envionments everything works fine, however when i promote to my hosting provider i receive the following error:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I've been configuring the connection strings (autogenerated from entity framework and attached db) but unable to get it working on the hosting provider, I'm assuming it's related to permissions but not entirely sure how to resolve - here's the web.config as it stands:

Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server

This was originally posted in the SSIS Forum, but a member of the IS team suggested it be moved here.  "Most recently I got this error (Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) so does this mean that SQL Server is still trying to use named pipes even if I only have TCP/IP enabled in SQL Server Configuration Manager?"

I'm having the same issue, and here's our scenario:

  1. Installed SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a machine with WinXP SP2 and enabled remote connections over TCP/IP
  2. Installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on a machine with Win2003 SP1 (remote connections over TCP/IP enabled by default)
  3. Attempted to 'Copy Database' from Developer Edition TO Standard Edition using 'Detach and Attach' method and recieved the error on the Win2003 machine: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server
