How to store more than 4k bytes of data in SQL CE 4?

I need to store more than 4k of bytes in my SQLCE 4 database. How can I do that with the ASP.NET Web Pages 1.0?

1: The Microsoft.Data provider fails when I try to populate a parameter with more than 4k bytes.
2: Referencing SqlServerCe assembly and using SqlCeConnection/SqlCeCommand/SqlCeParameter throws exception:  SQL Server Compact is not intended for ASP.NET development.

How can I somehow map the generic DbType, which does not have NText as an option, to the ntext column in my database? (SqlCeParameter supports DbSqlType, which has ntext, but see problem #2)

Store and display Japanese characters

Can anyone tell me the best way of storing Japanese characters through ASP.NET.
I have to put characters into a asp:textbox on one page, which saves it to an Access DB.
On a second page I want to display the content in a asp:label.

Should I store the characters directly to the database or should they be encoded, and
how do I encode the characters?

In my web.config i have:

<globalization fileEncoding="ISO-2022-JP" requestEncoding="ISO-2022-JP" responseEncoding="ISO-2022-JP" culture="ja-JP" uiCulture="ja-JP" />

On the display page I have:

<meta HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html;CHARSET=shift_jis">

SQL Server CE: New Version Lets You Store and Update Data on Handheld Devices

Handheld device users need to be able to synchronize with a main data store when it's convenient and, preferably, when the back-end database server isn't busy. SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition allows you to build a traveling data store that can be displayed and run on a variety of devices. SQL Server CE supports a subset of the full SQL Server package, and can be used as a standalone server or in tandem with SWL Server and IIS. The architecture of SQL Server CE, along with data manipulation, synchronization, and connectivity issues, are discussed in this article. Topics such as making your data public, choosing the right type of replication, and handling errors are also covered.

Best Practice to store images and rich media

I am working on a project in which I have to store atleast 100000 images and rich media like virtual tour, promotional videos.

I would like to know the best practice to store it in order to retrieve it in show it on website.

What should I store it as:

Store the url into the database and store the actual image on the physical server.

Store the image itself as a binary into the sql server itself and then convert it to runtime and show on the website.

I need to know which way is the best and suitable way to do this task.

VB.NET - store HTML code in SQL Server

Hey guys/gals!!

Quick question - I want to allow someone to enter HTML markup in a control, and save the input exactly as entered.

I want people to put a minimum of 50 words, to maximum of 500, and be able to save the formatting of their text in SQL 2005 server database.

Also, I understand this is two questions, but how do I save metadata of an image file in the sql database? I mean, I get the gist of it, but how do I do it?

Thanks everyone!

Store Attribute to string

Hello,I have been trying to store an xml attribute value to a string and I cannot seem to get it to work.  I start off pulling an XML node from a SharePoint web service. XmlNode user = usergrpService.GetUserInfo("domain\\user"); This seems to work because if I assign user.InnerXml to a text box then I can see the contents of the user.  So then I try to get the value.I have tried a combination of the following with /'s, @'s, User/ID, User@ID, /User/ID, /User@ID, etc.  String userID = user.Attributes["ID"].Value; String userID = user.SelectSingleNode("ID").Value; Each time I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error.  If I can read the InnerXml then why can I not get a single attribute?-Eric

store update sum

Okay, so i created the following query select a.cusip, SUM([UnitsHeld]) AS unitsSum From [GTC_PA_SQL2].[DW].[dbo].[HoldingsC] h inner join [GTC_PA_SQL2].[DW].[dbo].[AssetsC] A ON h.securityID = a.securityID Where cusip IS NOT Null AND MinSecClass In (9,10,58,59,60,64,65,69,70,79,80,85,87,215,216,220,229) group by a.cusip However, now i need i need to change this so that instead of a on the fly query, the values are stored and the query will run only once a quarter or so.  This is what i have so far: update dbo.finance set PAR= (select SUM([UnitsHeld]) AS unitsSum From [GTC_PA_SQL2].[DW].[dbo].[HoldingsC] h inner join [GTC_PA_SQL2].[DW].[dbo].[AssetsC] A ON h.securityID = a.securityID Where cusip IS NOT Null AND MinSecClass In (9,10,58,59,60,64,65,69,70,79,80,85,87,215,216,220,229) group by a.cusip) The table i need to store the UnitsSum value in the dbo.finance table under the field PAR which correlates with a PK of cusip, this table doesnt have any securityID reference. The issue with need these queries stems from the fact that i need a total UnitsHeld for each security class which has a cusip9 attached to it. However the database right now stored the unitsheld for each portfolio and not as a total for reach cusip which i need.

Store XML in XML type field or using FILESTREAM

(Posted this in Database Design, but then thought I should post here as well)   Hi All,   I am trying to figure out what would be the best method for storing xml documents in the db...if we should use an XML type field or if we should use the newly introduced FILESTREAM? We would have a need to shred those documents for queries and possibly use the FULL TEXT SEARCH to allow for user defined searches on those documents.  Does anyone have any thoughts on either approach for SQL server 2008?    Always apprecaite the input I get on this forum...very helpful.   --B

How to store binary data as nvarchar(max)?

I’m trying to store a blob of binary data as nvarchar(max) and it gets truncated after just a few bytes. I wonder why and how can I prevent it. I don’t use varbinary(max) because I’m trying to keep existing DB schema intact. Current DB contains a huge chunks of text in nvarchar(max) column and I’m trying to compress (zip) this text and store it back to the same field to reduce DB size.   DB is accessed using Sync Framework (and Entity Framework) on the client side, so actual DB engine is SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2   Thank you! KonstantinThank you! Konstantin

Help!, Problem with creating my store procedure.

I have two tables. Product_Table with ProductID as the primary key. My other table, ProductSKU_Table which has SKU as the primary key and ProductID as the foreign key. I am trying to create a store procedure to insert into both tables. How do I insert the primary key from the Product_Table into the foreign key of the ProductSKU_Table? This is what I have so far:ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_addNewProduct] ( @productName varchar(50) = null, @shortDescription varchar(100) = null, @longDescription varchar(4000) = null, @active bit = null, @category int = null, @sku varchar(11), @skuDescription varchar(200) = null, @orginalPrice money = null, @sellingPrice money = null, @specialPrice money = null, @qtyOnHand int = null, @qtyAtSupplier int = null, @imagePath varchar(200) = null, @releaseDate datetime ) AS BEGIN DECLARE @lastIDInserted int INSERT INTO Product_Table(Name, ShortDescription, LongDescription, Active, CategoryId) VALUES(@productName, @shortDescription, @longDescription, @active, @category) SET @lastIDInserted = @@IDENTITY INSERT INTO ProductSKU_Table(ProductId, SKU, Description, OrginalPrice, SellingPrice, SpecialPrice, QtyOnHand, QtyAtSupplier, ReleaseDate, imagePath, CreatedDate, ModifiedDate) VALUES(@lastIDInserted, @sku, @skuDescription, @orginalPrice, @sellingPrice, @specialP
