Retrieving Lost Code

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have built a test application in vs.net using a lot of code samples I found over the web, now for some strange reason I never included this project in my regular backups (Duh!) So all I have available are the aspx & ascx Files and the dll that was compiled for the application, Is there any way I can get into my DLL to see what code I used or will I need to spend hours and hours on google again? Thanks for the advice

Memory Lane: Rediscover the Lost Art of Memory Optimization in Your Managed Code

Managed applications rely on the garbage collector in the .NET Framework to allocate and clean up memory. The little CPU time spent performing garbage collection (GC) is usually a fair trade-off for not having to worry about memory management. But for applications in which CPU time and memory are precious resources, minimizing the time spent garbage collecting can greatly improve application performance and robustness. Find out how to manage memory all over again.

Retrieving lost password for a sdf file

i created database using sql server ce a few days ago but i've forgetten its user name and password. is there any solution to find my user name and password of my sql server ce database. thanqs for help.

Retrieving encrypted data in code

I am using sql server 2k5 database encryption with a symmetric key protected by password. Symmteric key password is stored in application memory on the server and cannot be stored in plain text in sps.

In SQL Mgmt Studio, i run a query opening symmetric key, exec Mysp and close key - data returns decrypted. In my c# code tho, when i want to call the same sp to read some encrypted data, i am issuing 3 separate commands since i am using stored procs to return data. In order:

  1. submit the SqlCommand(CommandType=Text) “open symmetric key MyKey decryption by password = ‘mypassword’” to open the key
  2. submit a SqlCommand(CommandType=SP) to call my stored proc with parms etc. to read encrypted data
  3. submit the SqlCommand(CommandType=Text) “close symmetric key MyKey” to close the key

If i issue the 3 commands in that order, the data is returned but encrypted columns are not decrypted.

The only way i can get back decrypted data is to wrap all 3 commands in a sqlTransaction. Since some stored procs are taking a long time to return it is causing deadlocks (long running sps is another issue). i am simply reading data so dont need transactional context but it seems unless i open the key, read my data and close the key in a transaction the key does not remain open

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Microsoft StyleCop: Source Code Analyzer for C#

StyleCop is similar in many ways to Microsoft Code Analysis (specifically FxCop), but there are some important distinctions. FxCop performs its analysis on compiled binaries, while StyleCop analyzes the source code directly. For this reason, FxCop focuses more on the design of the code, while StyleCop focuses on layout, readability and documentation. Most of that information is stripped away during the compilation process, and thus cannot be analyzed by FxCop.

C# and XML Source Code Documentation

Through many years of enterprise level software development and consulting, I became critically aware of the importance of good source code documentation, and several years ago when I began working with the first release of Visual Studio .NET beta 1 and found C# provided built-in support for inline XML code documentation, I was thrilled.

Bar Code Scanners with the .NET Compact Framework

Summary: Learn how to make your applications use bar code scanners in a generic way-ndependent of the specific bar code scanners that are used on different devices. Using the design patterns Façade and Factory, the implementation not only supports multiple bar code scanners, but it also makes it easy to add support for other bar code scanners. After a brief discussion about bar code scanners and the bar code scanner pattern, a download code sample, written in C#, demonstrates the use of the pattern and technologies.

Code works on aspx but not ascx

Not sure which category to put this question in, so I will put it in here.

Just to give you an idea of the layout of my solution, I have the main project, along with 2 class libraries, BLL and DAL.  (Business Logic Layer and Data Access Layer)

The BLL refers to the DAL and the main project refers to the BLL.

I had a test website and the code worked fine, but the same code will not work on the real project. The only difference is that in the test project, the code was on an aspx code behind, whereas in the real project, it is an ascx code behind (Web User Control )

The code is:

Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ASPNETDBConnectionString").ConnectionString
        Dim recordEntry As New UserRecord(connectionString)
        recordEntry.UserName = "TestName"
        recordEntry.BMI = bMI
        recordEntry.BMR = bMR
        recordEntry.FTM = fTM
        recordEntry.TDEE = tDEE
        recordEntry.TodayDate = dateForToday
        recordEntry.InsertRecord()

Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ASPNETDBConnectionString").ConnectionString

Retrieving a variable from a previous page

Hi,

I'm looking to have a search page where a user will select an item from a listview, then then taken to another page that wil display data based on their original selection.

A user will type in a string and be presented with a list of usernames that are like that string, when they select a user name who's profile they would like to view I would like the page that they're taken to, to be that users profile.

How would I transfer the variable from the search page to the profile page, and when I work on the profile page, how can I access that variable?

Thanks.
