Changing SQL server Authentication method

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi We have a SQL server (x64 standard) that is running with sharepoint on it.  Currently we have some custom s/w that need SQL server authentication also but our server is set to "window authentication mode" only.  Could someone please tell me if we can change the authentication method from "windows authentication mode" to "SQL server and Windows authentication mode" while sql is running.  Will they ask us to re-boot or it will take effect immediately?  thanks, Ted.

aspnet_regsql and using SQL server authentication

If Windows authentication is used in ASP.NET SQL Server Setup Wizard, database names can be retrieved, but if SQL Server authentication is used, the following error occurs:Failed to query a list of database names from the SQL server. Invalid object name 'sysdatabase'.In case you suspect the user name and passowrd are the fault, they are used in many other connections that are able to retrieve the list of database names. They can be used to continue the wizard to create a database. Could anyone shed some light on this?

Sys.Data.DataContext.saveChanges method doesn't send update to server after DataServiceException ex

Hello,I have a page with a simple form that updates a single record in a table in my database. The database is accessed via WCF Data Services. To load and save data from/to the server, I usethe Sys.Data.DataContext object provided by the ASP.NET AJAX library. When the "save" button on theform is clicked, I use the saveChanges method of the Sys.Data.DataContext object to send all changes to the server. Also, at the server side, I use an interceptor that checks the "Price" fields of the record, and throws a DataServiceException exception when the contents of the field is a negative number. Both the JavaScript and the interceptor (in C#) are copied below. Here is the interesting thing:When I enter a negative price in the form, the interceptor throws the exception and my form shows an error message. Good. However, if I then make one of the other fields in the form a bit shorter (for example from "abcd" to "abc"),the saveChanges method doesn't send the data to the server. But it does call the success callback that I passed in to saveChanges, creating the impressionthat the data has been saved. This happens while the Price field is still negative. I used Fiddler to make sure thatno message is sent to the server. Also, the interceptor doesn't get executed. The weird thing is that if I make one of the fields a bit longer instead (for example &q

Changing authentication from NTLM to Negotiate

We orginally configured our SharePoint environment to use NTLM and now have been told that in order to configure SSRS SharePoint Integrated services we will need to change to Negotiate (Kerberos).   Can anyone point me to the a best practice document for making this change? Thanks. Jim

Changing an authentication of SharePoint site from SQL-FBA to Active Directory

Hi,      We are using MOSS 2007. I have customized a web application using Custom web part, features and ASPX pages. we have configured SQL-Form based Authentication for this site. I have also used FBA user management functionality from Codeplex. I have created some groups and my application (custom aspx page) is referencing these groups to send an email to specific person as per his role for certail events.        I have a requirement to migrate this set up on other server and change the authentication from SQL-FBA to Active Directory. So if I have to change the Authentication from SQL-FBA to AD then what are the steps I have to follow to make this happen?      I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Patav

ODBC connection to SQL Server 2005 Standard (on windows xp) with Windows authentication does NOT wor

I reviewed lots of postings, still could not find an answer. If I choose Windows authentication: - with TCP/IP and "Dynamically determine port" checked, I get the following error "The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection; - with Named Pipes, Server Name & Pipe Name as "VSAXAONG", I get two errors, one after the other on the same pop-up:       Connection failed  SQL State 01000  SQL Server Error 1385 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] ConnectionOpen (Connect()).       Connection failed  SQL State 08001 SQL Server Error 17 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] SQL Server does not exist or access denied. If I choose SQL Server authentication and fill in the password - the ODBC connection works fine. I have to say that I created two different logins on the server, one for Windows authentication, and one for SQL Server authentication - both for the same Windows user name. I would appreciate any help I can get on this.  Thank you all in advance.

WCF Basic Http Binding - Two server requests per method call

We have a service that uses BasicHttpBinding/Transport Security/Windows Authentication and is hosted in IIS. I have created a unit-test application in VSTS and whenever we test a WCF method, Fiddler records two calls. 1st call - No authorization token is sent. The WCF service returns a 401 error - Unauthorized: Access is denied. Http headers as sent in the request given below. POST http://localhost/AccountScreen.svc HTTP/1.1 Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8 SOAPAction: "IAccountScreen/RetrieveAccountDetails" Host: localhost Content-Length: 243 Expect: 100-continue Connection: Keep-Alive 2nd call - Authorization token is sent and the WCF service returns the expected response. POST http://localhost/AccountScreen.svc HTTP/1.1 Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8 SOAPAction: "IAccountScreen/RetrieveAccountDetails" Authorization: Negotiate Host: localhost Content-Length: 243 Expect: 100-continue I am not able to figure out why there are two calls made to the server in the first place and what is the significance of the first call. Any thoughts?

SharePoint - Report Server - Client Certificate authentication

Hi,I have a SharePoint site collection which requires client certificates. On the server I have configured Reporting Services in integration mode.I can call reports on other site collections which don't require client certificates but not on the site which does. On the site which requires client certificates the pages fail with the following error message:'An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with HTTP status 403: forbidden'The error message indicates that SharePoint doesn't call the web service with a client certificate. Does anyone know how I can configure SharePoint to use a client certificate?Any help is greatly appreciated.Adam

Client/Server Authentication

Dear All,   I have a client/server socket application that enables file transfer between the client and the server, however, i want the client to be authenticated with the server before a file is transferred. the client should prompt for a user name and password which is used for authentication with the server. The server should be configured with user name/password pairs so that it is able to authenticate client. I have been searching for related work for quite sometime now but haven't come across anything close to this yet. Please i want any1 to help me settle this issues, i would appreciate if i am directed to an article or any other resources that is helpful, or pasting sample code/ uploading sample application would be of greatest help..Thank you all in advance. No support for SQL Server Authentication and SSIS !!!!

Hi I want to manage my servers from a central location and have the ability to manage my packges too.  Unfortunatley my servers are across domains which means I have to use SQL Server Login, which isn't a bad thing.  However for some bizzare reason I can't connect to Integration Services using this method, only windows authentication which is a complete pain in the butt from a management stand point as I have to copy packages to various servers rather than add them from a central point. Does anyone know if this bug/feature or what ever Microsoft is calling it will be fixed or know of any workarounds.  Thanks

SQL Server Authentication Property

Is there a system table or view that contains the server authentication mode?  I would like to keep a history of changes to a SQL Server instance and this is one property I would like to include in the history.  I would like to retrieve the information from a table or view or function programmatically.
