syspolicy_purge_history generates unauthorised connection to other instances on a machine

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi folks, My scenario is this:   I have 3 SQL Server 2008 (Standard, 64-bit, SP1) instances, say A, B C on a virtual server. Each instance has its own dedicated service account (sqlsvc-A, sqlsvc-B and sqlsvc-C respectively). syspolicy_purge_history has been installed on all threee instances by default.     step 3 in respective syspolicy_purge_history jobs reads:   (Get-Item SQLSERVER:\SQLPolicy\Machinename\A).EraseSystemHealthPhantomRecords() (Get-Item SQLSERVER:\SQLPolicy\Machinename\B).EraseSystemHealthPhantomRecords() (Get-Item SQLSERVER:\SQLPolicy\Machinename\C).EraseSystemHealthPhantomRecords()   so they appear to have been set correctly.   syspolicy_purge_history in instance A works OK.   syspolicy_purge_history in in instance B seems to want to first connect to instance A, resulting in Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. Login failed for user 'Machinename\sqlsvc-A'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>] . No errors are reported by Powershell.   syspolicy_purge_history in in instance C seems to want to first connect to instance A , resu;ting in Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. Login failed for user 'Machinename\sqlsvc-A'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructu

SQL Server Configuration Manager: Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion

I have a SQL Server 2005 box that was moved from a domain environment to a non-domain environment and was never dropped from its original domain before moving over.  Subsequently a new domain was created at the data center this SQL Server box now resides in.  The machine was dropped from its old domain and joined to the new one.   All the while the service accounts were set to the local admin account.  When I tried to start the Configuration Manager I got the message "Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion.".  I read some blog entries and tried changing all the service accounts to Local System and the error message still came up.   All of the SQL Server services run fine.  It is just this management console that I cannot open.  I wasn't with this employer when this box was moved to the data center so I do not know if it worked prior and there isn't anyone here that could give me its history.   Any help would be appreciated.

I hosted a wcf service application using windows services. When my client (ASP.NET) tries to call the service class hosted by the windows service, I get this error "TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. ". Is there a fix for this? The same code works fine if I host it using a console application.

I am on the console of a server with a SQL Server 2008 installation.

I CAN successfully connect to the instance with this command:     c:\>    sqlcmd -E -S localhost\DW

I can NOT successfully connect with this one:    c:\>   sqlcmd -E -S localhost\DW,1433

  • Remote Server connections are enabled under server properties, connections
  • Under SQL Server configuration manager, "Protocols for DW" has TCP/IP enabled, TCP Dynamic Ports empty, TCP Port set to 1433.
  • My firewall is shutdown
  • I've restarted the SQL Server instance after config manager changes.

I receive this message:

[SOLVED] .Net 2 Service unable to access Connection String in Machine.config

I have a Windows Service I have developed in Visual Studio 2005 (C#).

It accesses a database using a connection string in machine.config.

On my Windows XP Pro 32bit (SP3) machine, it works correctly.

On my new Windows 7 Pro 64bit machine, it throws "object not set to an instance of an object" when it gets to the line where it's trying use the connection string.
This is the 'object' which is not set in Windows 7:
ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyDatabase"].ConnectionString

The machine.config has the same connection string set up on both machines.

A .Net 2 website transferred to the Windows 7 machine has no problem accessing the same connection string.

I have tried a bunch of different permissions on the machine.config and its containing folders, and setting the service to log in as Admin, but I don't know exactly what permissions are required.

Does anyone know what's going on here? Many thanks.

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

I am using SharePoint 2010 Word Automation Services to convert documents (docx to xps).

When I try to start the ConversionJob, I get the following exception:

EndpointNotFoundException

Could not connect to http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc/actas. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:32843.

The method generate this Exception is the Start() one. The code is the following one:

//...<br/>
ConversionJob job = new ConversionJob(wordAutomationServiceName);<br/>
job.UserToken = spSite.UserToken;<br/>
job.Settings.UpdateFields = true;<br/>
job.Settings.OutputFormat = SaveFormat.XPS;<br/>
job.AddLibrary(inputListName, outputListName);<br/>
         <br/>
job.Start();<br/>
//...

I tried the firewall configuration, but i was not.

The stack trace is the following:

SQL Connection String

We can learn or know how can we connect the database from our .net. This will help for freshers or .NET beginners!

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Encapsulation
Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.

Thanks,

connection string question from a newbie

when publishing  in the webmatrix dialogue it asks for "destination connection string" for my "database.mdf"

I was not sure what it was so I pasted this from my web.config file :

Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True

it all published ok, but wont run, so I guess it has somthing to do with this connection string or some kind of configuration issue.

My question is this, What should go in the field for "Destination connection string"

localhost is not set up to establish a connection on port 51624 with this computer

I'm trying to run asp.net locally, but getting the error

localhost is not set up to establish a connection on port 51624 with this computer

How can I fix it?

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

 I have two SQL Server instances installed.

 1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?
