SSAS Connecting with Oracle.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi. I am running SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7 laptop.  I want to use it to connect to an Oracle database so that I may build cubes etc. So I downloaded and installed the ODAC from Oracle's download site - it included ODP.Net and the Instant Client. I have not configured anything any further but just open up BIDS, right click "Data Sources" -> "New Data Source". I have 4 options here when I click "New.." but each of them end up in the same error. OracleClient Data Provided Oracle Data Provider for .NET Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle Oracle Provider for OLE DB When I click "Test Connection" the error pops up "Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified". I can't get any further than this. Can anyone see what I am doing wrong? David.

Connecting to Oracle on 64bit OS

We have a 64-bit implementation of MOSS 2007. I recently installed the SharePoint SDK to use the Application Definition Designer to connect to Oracle. I enter the connection string and then I get this:

Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. The problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.

I have verified that the server contains the 64 bit version of the Oracle client installed both with the instantclient and with system.data.oracleclient.dll. The only thing I can think of is that the tool was compiled as a 32bit application.  Is there a 64bit version available? Is there something else that I'm missing?

U?sing Forms Authentication and connecting between SSRS ans SSAS

In our current production environment, we have SSRS setup to use Forms Authentication to verify the users. For our data sources, we are using 2 different data models - 1 is used to point at the "raw" sql in the database - and the second model is to point at a SSAS cube. currently, all users can see all data. we now have a requirement to limit the data the a user can see from the Fact table dependant on the Portion that they are assigned to (and a user might be assigned to more than one Portion. we have set this new requirement in the "raw" SQL model using a security filter - and all working well we have set the filtering up in the cube  - using a stored procedure in the Role "dimension data" tab which receives the user name and retruns the MDX required for the filtering - and it works if we connect to the cube via SQL management studio. However, if we connect from Reporting Services, we can not get the UserName "transferred over" and therefore the filtering doesnt work. n.b. we are using Shared data sources for our reports does anyone out there know of a way of making this work - or do we go for Kerberos ??

Timeout When Connecting From SSIS to Oracle

Hello Forum I've been tasked with building a replacement SQL Server that extracts data from Oracle and publishes it to a Third Party.  The new Server is of a higher spec than the existing SQL Server and the Server in question is not performing any other role. The Network config between the two SQL Servers is identical; Firewalls are also configured correctly.  Both Servers are using the same Switch. However when I attempt to replicate the DTS Packages and SSIS, i'm getting a Timeout problem when Management Studio is attempting to populate the list of Objects from Oracle.  Is there anything from a SQL Perspective that could be causing the issues? New Server is SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition SP3.  Old Server is SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition SP4.Tony C

Connecting to Oracle on 64-bit (x64) machine

Has anyone received the following error when trying to create a connection to an Oracle database using SSIS installed on a 64-bit (x64) machine?

"Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. ORA-06413: Connection not open"

The reason this is funny to me is because I have the same Oracle/SSIS setup on a 32-bit (x86) machine and I can connect successfully.

On both machines I have SSIS RTM, Oracle 9.2 and using the Microsoft Ole Db Provider for Oracle.

SSAS 2008R2 - Enable to process a database using Oracle OraOLEDB data provider

I've created a data source in BIDS using provider OraOLEDB.Oracle.1. The Oracle database is 10gR2. The client installed on my computer is 10gR2. The connexion is OK when I use Test Connexion in BIDS.

In the data source view I created a very simple query: select * from user_objects. All is fine, the fields are correctly defined.

I've created a dimension based on this query with object_id as the key.

I've deployed the solution to the server. All is working fine for the moment.

But when I process the dimension I get a dozen of error messages like (sorry error messages are in french) :

Problems Connecting Excel Services to Oracle Database

I am just beginning to experiment with using Excel Services with BI Dashboards in SharePoint 2010.  I created a Excel Workbook that has a data connection using connection type of OLE DB Query with a connection string of "Provider=MSDAORA.1;User ID=<username>;Data Source=<oracleEnvironment>".  I have the Excel Services Authentication Settings set up for a specific SSS ID <mySSSID>.

This Excel Workbook has been Saved to SharePoint with an entire sheet published.  The Excel Web App is displaying the sheet and the Slicers are functioning just like they do in the Excel client.  When I refresh the data on the client I get prompted for a password and it works fine.  When I refresh on the Web App I have received a variety of errors depending on what I try but nothing has helped me track down what I have missed.

Error deploying SSAS 2008 cube connected to oracle client

I've build a cube in BIDS 2008 on Windows 7 machine connecting to oracle data source. I've 32-bit oracle client on my machine. I'm able to create the data source, data source view, cube successfully. I can also explore the data in data source view. But when I try to deploy the cube on my SSAS 2008 server, it fails with the following error:

Errors in the high-level relational engine. The following exception occurred while the managed IDbConnection interface was being used: Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException.  This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.;An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Connecting to SSAS via IIS using msmdpump.dll

Has anyone actually got the msmdpump.dll to work as it should?

Basically I'm trying to connect from server A (my webserver) to server B (my SSAS server), on server A I have installed/configured the msmdpump.dll within a virtual directory as detailed in the microsoft website documentation. I am wanting to use windows authentication so a user can just connect through the pump as themselves and connect to the SSAS box via an application that is yet to be written.

Note that this is on a Win2003 64bit box with IIS6 with a virtual directory of http://mywebservername/OLAP/msmdpump.dll and this virtual directory has the correct permissions for reading, its using the OLAP pool that I created according to the documentation and I've installed xml6 parser and the OLE analysis services driver thing and the SQL native client all successfully. The virtual directory is set to ONLY do windows authentication and nothing else and the msmdpump.dll is set to 'allowed' status in the extensions bit of IIS. Oh yes and the application mapping for the msmdpump.dll is set correctly with the '.dll' extension and the pump dll file location.

Trying to test connect via SSMS to the URL http://mywebservername/OLAP/msmdpump.dll will give the error...

problem in connecting .net 2010 to oracle 10g via ODAC 11

hello everyone!!
i m trying to use ODAC 11 with vs2010 and oracle 10G. After installation i am able to connect the vs2010's server explorer with oracle 10G using ODAC. the thing is when i try to drag the table directly on windows application or web form, it does nothing. there is no way possible to connect any application to the database. i strongly feel that my installation is incomplete. I changes the parameters in tnsname.ora. the only thing i left in installation is executing some sql scripts after installation that are present in "C:\app\dellid\product\11.2.0\client_1\ASP.NET\SQL" folder.

Help with connecting to SqlExpress 2005 remotely

So I've intalled SQL 2005 Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE). I don't have any problems connecting to it using Windows authentication. But I would like to set it up so that I can log in using Sql Server Authentication with a username and password.

My Problem

But I'm getting an error message of "A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occured during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0- No process is on the other end of the pipe) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233).

What I've done

I've created a new "Login" in the Security node. Provided all necessary role access level. Granted permission to connect to database and enabled login.

I've used the Sql Server Surface Area Configuration to set the Remote Connection type to "Using TCP/IP only" or "Using Both TCP/IP and named pipes" (tried both, but in either situation I get the same error message when attempting to login to SSMSE with the user name and password). I also made sure to restart the service.

What do I need to do to fix this problem?

ASP.Net connect to Oracle.

We have an application which uses  'System.Data.OracleClient'. On the box it was developed we can change the TNSNAMES.ORA entries to connect to different oracle databases. Moving the code to a  Microsoft Server 2008 box it would appear that the application ignores the TNSNAMES.ORA file. It has cached the first Oracle connection and will now work without any TNSNAMES.ORA file. Where is it getting the connection? We have set tns_admin to point at the TNSNAMES.ORA file. We can tnsping the connection OK.

access Oracle database

Pre- .Net Framework 4.0 supported using Oracle.DataAccess.Client, using Oracle.DataAccess.Types, System.Data.OracleClient, OracleDataReader, OracleConnection. What are the equivalents in .Net Framework 4.0? Does it require any download?

Thank you.
