MDX Query tuning with subcubes usage

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello, I've an SSAS DB with 8+ dimensions among which 4 are regular dimensions and 4 are parent-child dimensions. The problem is I've an MDX query whose execution is taking 45 seconds of time. Following is my MDX query : Select Non Empty(Hierarchize({{DrillDownLevel({{[PCDim1].&[716]}})}})) on Rows         ,Non Empty(Hierarchize({{Descendants({[TimeDim1].&[5045],[Time].&[TimeDim1]},[Time].[Month],SELF)}})) on Columns From MyCube where ({[PCDim2].&[101],[PCDim2].&[102]} *         ([PCDim3].&[1],[PCDim4].&[1],[RegDim1].&[104]),[RegDim2].&[1],[RegDim3].&[14],[Measures].[MTD]) I tried to speedup the query execution by using the subcubes. Following is the altered query:   Select Non Empty(Hierarchize({{DrillDownLevel({{[PCDim1].&[716]}})}})) on Rows         ,Non Empty(Hierarchize({{Descendants({[TimeDim1].&[5045],[Time].&[TimeDim1]},[Time].[Month],SELF)}})) on Columns From ( Select {[PCDim2].&[101],[PCDim2].&[102]} on Columns From MyCube ) where (([PCDim3].&[1],[PCDim4].&[1],[RegDim1].&[104]),[RegDim2].&[1],[RegDim3].&[14],[Measures].[MTD]) surprisingly this took more time to execute when compared with the earlier query execution time. I've read that using subcubes in MDX query would speedup the query

Performance tuning > two tables with strings > best query to join them

I have two subqueries which build a string (varchar(200)), first subquery creates 200000 records and second 50000 records, how can I write a select statement to get records from subquery first with string existing in second subquery records.

Will sorting both the sub query results be helpful? Kindly advice for best performing select statement.

Column Alias Usage Everywhere in a Query Following Definition

In the following query, you cannot use the column aliases in WHERE and GROUP BY clauses, then suddenly like thunder from the blue, you can use it in the ORDER BY clause. It is counter-intuitive. It is counter-productive as well.

SELECT	[Year]=YEAR(OrderDate),
		[Month]=MONTH(OrderDate),
		TotalSales=SUM(TotalDue)
FROM AdventureWorks2008.Sales.SalesOrderHeader
WHERE YEAR(OrderDate) > 2002
GROUP BY YEAR(OrderDate), MONTH(OrderDate)
ORDER BY [Year],[Month]
/* Year	Month	TotalSales
2003	1	1968647.184
2003	2	3226056.1486
2003	3	2297692.9898
*/

I made a suggestion to enable column alias usage everywhere in a query. You can vote for this feature at Connect:

High memory usage by the SSMS.exe and no Running Query

Hi i am editing a stored procedure using the SSMS (I have SQL Server 2008 SP1 - Windows 2003 Server Standard). At the begining everything is ok, but around of 3 or 4 minutes of work the ssms is becoming to slow, I open the Task Manager and I see that the process SSMS.exe is using 1.2GB of RAM Memory. I have open just one script (The stored procedure that I'm editing) but the script isnt running only editing. I dont understand that high memory because i'm not retreiving data of any query and im not running any thing on my ssms. Take a look of my task manager http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab319/jacarmonaro/highMemory.jpg

Other thing: When I minimize the ssms window the smss.exe process come back to a normal RAM memory usage.

Please any help??

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

How to Encrypt Query String Parameters in ASP.NET

Encrypt Query String Parameters in ASP.NET.u can send secure data one page another page u can also use query string to encrypt

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.

Performance tuning tips for database developers

Performance tuning is not easy and there aren't any silver bullets, but you can go a surprisingly long way with a few basic guidelines.

In theory, performance tuning is done by a DBA. But in practice, the DBA is not going to have time to scrutinize every change made to a stored procedure. Learning to do basic tuning might save you from reworking code late in the game.

Below is my list of the top 15 things I believe developers should do as a matter of course to tune performance when coding. These are the low hanging fruit of SQL Server performance - they are easy to do and often have a substantial impact. Doing these won't guarantee lightening fast performance, but it won't be slow either.

Performance Tuning on DirectShow Camera Application

Windows CE 6.0 supports DirectShow® components to develop a rich camera application. A minimum requirement of the camera application is to show preview, capturing the still images which is stored as a compressed file (JPG) format, capturing/multiplexing the video with or without audio i.e. stored as a compressed file (WMV) format.

Windows CE 6.0 provides sample applications for showing preview, capturing still and video using DirectShow® components. However these sample applications doesn't cover all the aspects to develop a commercial application. A commercial camera application at least satisfies the following performance criteria.

Need help with a linq to sql query

I want to display some stats in a listview contril.  The table contains a record for every impression and for every click, and every record has a datetime field for the time and date of the impression of click.  I want to be able to display how many impressions and clicks there were in a given day and hour, something like below:

Date              Time                              Impressions    Clicks
8/20/2010                                               450              14

How to send an email with information in query string

First I will say I googled (Binged to make Bill happy) for this but could not find anything, perhaps I am not stating what I need correctly;

I have a website that a customer creates orders (for a printing company) and after the order, I would like to email the customer a link to view the status of their order;

I need to send the CustomerID in the link so on the returning page if a CustomerID is detected in the querystring, I "auto login" the client and open the "Dashboard" for the order page for that customer.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to send the link and how to parse the querystring to get the values from the link;

Thank you if you can point me in the right direction.

Use Membership but bypass / disable password usage for users

I have an application that does LDAP authentication. The authentication is done on the code behind page of my Login.aspx page. Once the user passes LDAP authentication, a cookie is set and I redirect:

FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(UserName.Text, False)

I would like to setup membership in my application and keep track of some user information. But due to company security requirements, I cannot store user passwords on my application. That must stay on the LDAP server only.

Is there a way to store users but disable password storage on the aspnet_membership table?

Get ServerReport selected Parameter value to use in vb query

I'm using ReportViewer in Asp.net 2.0 to view a SSRS report. I need the value of the selected parameter to use in a vb query. The parameters are populated on the server and its a single selection. Doing searches I've come across  ReportViewer1.ServerReport.GetParameters() but I can't figure out if I can use this to determine which value the user has selected in the parameter dropdownlist. Any help would be appreciated.

Need Help in LINQ query for group By with chunks of record

I am assigning and unique id [strShipperIdSequence] on my List on bases of some properties which are grouped together uniquely.
Now what i needed is that my group should be further break down to some maximum amount of chunks.[Let say 10]
that mean's even i am having Same value in 12 records i should get 2 groups[I of 10 items and other of 2 items]

var uniqueGroups = objMdbContentInfoList.GroupBy(p => new
{
p.CON_ENTRY_POINT,
p.APPTType,
p.CON_CONTAINER_ISSUE_DATE
}).Select(g => g.First()).ToList();
foreach (var objUnique in uniqueGroups)
{
string strShipperIdSequence = APIGlobalMethods.GetShipperRequestID();
foreach (MdbContentInfo obj in objMdbContentInfoList.FindAll(h => (h.CON_ENTRY_POINT == objUnique.CON_ENTRY_POINT &&
h.APPTType == objUnique.APPTType &&
h.CON_CONTAINER_ISSUE_DATE == objUnique.CON_CONTAINER_ISSUE_DATE)))
{
