Passing credentials from Sharepoint application to Reporting Server

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi, Think of an environment where SSRS is deployed in share point integrated mode. There is a sharepoint application which is using user authentication (not windows authentication) for validating the login credentials of users using the application. There are some reports presented as web parts in the sharepoint application. Now, how should the user credentials be passed from Sharepoint application to Reporting services and how should they be validated? How the user credentials from sharepoint to be passed to report server and validate the permissions before showing up the report? Please let me know.  Phani Note: Please mark the post as answered if it answers your question.

RDL Rendering (500 Internal Server) Error at Sharepoint Integrated Reporting Service

I have a serious problem that cannot be solved by googling around the keywords below:
sharepoint, moss 2007, reporting service, ssrs 2008, rendering, internal server error, ....

The error is;

"An error occurred during client rendering. The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. "

Everything is O.K.;

* When I render the report from the REPORTSERVER (http://localhost/ReportServer)
* When the reports are scheduled to be sent by the reporting service (planned via MOSS 2007)

But if I open (render) the RDL file from the sharepoint REPORTS LIBRARY interface, all of the reports fail with that internal error message above.

It is weird also that parametrized reports are displayed without errors although the parameters are queried from a sql dataset. But I got the error when rendering the report after I've chosen a parameter  and order "apply/report"...

Possible causes how I met that error may be;

After I have installed (then uninstalled) AJAX extensions
After I have re-configured IIS Web Service Extensions list items

Possible solution alternatives I've found;

I've found a solution on MSDN replying a similar issue with an ideal cause of the error but an evreka answer but no sol

WFE and Application Server in sharepoint

Hello, Want to know the differences between WFE and Application server? According to my knowledge,WFE for handling user requests?(ok..fine,where can I find WFE or more than 1 WFE?) and Application Server for Excel Services,Search,index server etc But the url or the link or any diagram so I can easily guess what is wfe and why some times we can use more WFEs and what is an application sever and why we can use more than 1 Applicaion server? 1)I know a web application like http://server:5000/sites/MySiteName .Can we called it as an application server? Like any url for WFE? 2)Is there any command or program code to know how many servers (Front-end Servers,Application Servers,Database Servers,Index Servers) etc in a FARM Please clarify all the above without missing any Thanks in Advance

Passing security credentials to the third server

I have the following scenario.  An user uses the desktop application to call our WCF Service which has windows authentication.  The WCF Service calls the Office Communication Server (OCS) in order to do some custom work.  When the WCF Service calls OCS we have to pass an instance of NetWorkCredential into the call.  I want to pass in the original calling users NetworkCredential object into the OCS call rather than constructing it using a custom username and password.  How do I get access to the calling users NetworkCredential object from the WCF service and pass it to the OCS call?ThanksArjuna.

How to save Windows credentials to a data source in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 using Visual

I am trying to create a shared data source for SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 that uses a specific Windows user ID and password to connect to the database. Using the Report Manager web interface, if I create a shared data source and specify "Credentials stored securely in the report server", I can check the "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" checkbox. This tells SSRS that the user ID and password I specify are from a Windows user, not a SQL Server user. I want to create the shared data source using Visual Studio though. In Visual Studio I have an option to use stored credentials but there is no equivalent of the "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" checkbox. SSRS always assumes that user and password are for a SQL Server user, not a Windows user, and thus the connection fails. Does anyone know how to tell Visual Studio that the stored credentials are for a Windows user?

SharePoint integration with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services

Hello Everyone,   I have been banging my head against the wall with trying to integrate SharePoint 2007 and SQL Reporting Services.  If anyone could offer any assistance, I would appreciate it greatly. I have been following these 2 websites down to the letter in trying to configure everything:     1. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326356.aspx     <---Microsoft's Steps   2. http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2007/02/19/microsoft-sql-server-2005-sp2-reporting-services-integration-with- wss-3-0-and-moss-2007.aspx   <---SharePoint Blog Group     Basically my setup is as follows:   Server 1 = SharePoint 2007 Server 2 = SQL Server Reporting Services SP2 / SharePoint 2007 services Server 3 = Database   Server1 is setup and running SharePoint 2007 fine with no problems. It was installed under the complete option with its own server farm. Then with the Server2, SharePoint 2007 is installed again, also under the complete complete option, and configured to join Server1's server farm. In this way, Server2 is able to supply Server1 with services and it has been said that if you are using 2 different servers, one for SharePoint and one for Reporting Services, you need to have an instance of SharePoint on the reporting services box. With a SharePoint "front-end" the reporting-services now has a way to also join Server1s farm.   This is where the headache be

Don't see tab and toolbar of the report manager application after installing sql server reporting s

Hello everyone: I have tried to install and configure Reporting Service. I found lots of  errors along the way. The first one was an error (500.23) from IIS7. I applied the suggested solution on the IIS screen which was migrating configuration using AppCmd ( %SystemRoot%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd migrate config "Default Web Site/"). Next problem was  : Request is not available in this context Stack Trace: [HttpException (0x80004005): Request is not available in this context] System.Web.HttpContext.get_Request() +3465893 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.Global.get_ConfigurationManager() +47 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.GlobalApp.Application_Start(Object sender, EventArgs e) +32  This error was caused by the fact that Report Server and Report Manager were configured to DefaultAppPool in the Reporting Service Configuration Manager. I have switched to Classic .Net AppPool  for both Report Server and Report Manager and it has fixed the problem. Now my problem is that the Report Manager Application ( http://localhost/reports/folders.aspx ) shows no tab, toolbar or folder. What I now have on the Report Manage Application page is the header with the title and [home] and [Help] button links on the top right corner. I have made a report to test the problem but no folder shows o

Problem create a web application on SharePoint 2007 (Project Server 2007)

I installed a Project Server 2007 in a 3 server structure (all Win 2003 sp2; one for App server hosting Central Admin, Project Server service & Search service; one for web server; one for database server).  They are only in the same domain and I use the same network account for the installation as well as the WSS service account.  The same network are local admin for those 3 servers. All installation & patches seem ok (at least I don't get error messages) until I attempt to create my first Web Application.  After I filled out the web appliction and try to click OK, the page does not change and i saw the java error at the right bottom corner from my IE browser (version 6). Enabling Windows Authentication to SQL Server using Application Pool Credentials

I have created a WCF Service (VS2008), an application pool account which has the access to the SQL Server(in remote machine). Configured the App Pool account to the Virtual Directory in IIS (Version 6.0). Once I browse through the SVC file, I can see the WSDL file. I have the "Windows Authentication" and the 'Anonymous authentication" Checked in the Properties for the Virtual Directory. But when I access service through Client, I get "The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Negotiate,NTLM'.". Binding that is being used is HTTPBinding. I have set the Identity Impersonate to True as well. Bottom line is - I need to use the App Pool account to connect to the SQL Server. Could some one please help me in this?

re: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies

To have access to the webpart "report viewer for sql server reporting services" you can of course install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies. My question though is, does your SharePoint 2007 server have to be running in integrated mode so as to be able to install and use the report viewer web part? Thanks.

Passing value from one web application to another hosted in different server

I want to redirect from one aspx page to another aspx page of different application. Both applications are hosted in different application servers. I want to pass a value from one application to another. I tried - 1. Response.redirect with Query string - But query string is not secure as it is visible to user in browser. 2. Cookies - This is also not a secure way. Again if the cookies are disable in the browser it may not work. 3. Server.transfer - In different web application we cant use server.transfer. Please provide any easy solution how to achieve this.  I dont want to display the values to the user as it is confidential data.

Print control works on reporting server, but not in embedded in application

Hi,I am having an issue where if I click on the print icon in the report viewer embedded in an application, I get the error "unable to load client print control".  However, when running through report manager, this is fine.  I am running SQL Server 2005 SP3 and report viewer 9.Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Server 2003 prompting for credentials when connection to Sharepoint document library via UNC

Hi all

I have a sharepoint document library http://mycompany/sites/documentLibrary. When browsing to this site through Internet Explorer on a terminal server I can get to the site without being prompted for a username and password, which is what I want. The site appears as "local intranet"  according to IE.

When browsing to the UNC path \\mycompany\sites\documentLibrary we are being prompted for a username and password. After putting in the credentials the document library displays. I need for the server to be able to access the site via UNC path without being prompted for credentials as we have several in house applications relying on doing so

The funny thing is this was working until recently. What's changed? I have no idea. I have an almost identical terminal server on the same subnet/OS/windows patch level that allows access without prompting for a username or password, and the only thing I had to do for that server was enable the web client service..

Things I have tried so far:

- Checked the Web Client service is enabled, started and set to automatic. Restarted the server just to make sure.
- Added http://mycompany, \\mycompany etc to the trusted zone.
- Set the truste
