Barchart migiration problem when I move it from SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2008

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi I am having a barchart report in ssrs 2005 which  is going to dynamically generate the bars depending on the input parameters for example if we give 15 as input it is going  to generate 15 bar on the chart and if we give 25 as input it is going to generate 25 bars on the report.Report is working well in ssrs 2005 but when I migrate it from ssrs 2005 to ssrs 2008 and run the report it is working well when i select 15 as input it is showing me 15 bar with the names on x-axis and y-axis.But when I select 25 as input it is generating bar chart  and I see multiples of 5 like(5,10,15,20)  bars are getting the names displayed on the y-axis and rest of the names are not displayed on chart.I was trying to expand the bar chart  and trying to see the different. When I expand report is spliting into two pages and I see multiples of 5 like(5,10,15,20) bars are getting the names displayed and rest of the names are not displayed. So can anyone suggest me any solution.   Thanks in Advance

Shared dataset in SSRS 2008 R2 running on SSAS 2005

I am trying to create a report in SSRS 2008 R2 using SSAS 2005 as a datasource. My dataset has a date parameter. When I create an embedded dataset in my report everything works fine, but when I create a shared dataset with the exact same mdx query, I get the following error: An error occurred during local report processing. The definition of the report 'xxxx' is invalid. The Value expression for the report parameter 'DateCalendarHierarchy' contains an error: [BC30034] Bracketed identifier is missing closing ']'. Does anybody have any ideas? Is this a bug? Thanks, Louis

SSRS 2008 R2 Problem understanding View State Validation steps

Hi, Sorry, but I have some problem understanding this steps. Please help me to understand this.  Pasted from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc281307.aspx?lc=1033 How to Configure View State Validation To run a scale-out deployment on an NLB cluster, you must configure view state validation so that users can view interactive HTML reports. You must do this for the report server and for Report Manager. View state validation is controlled by the ASP.NET. By default, view state validation is enabled and uses the identity of the Web service to perform the validation. However, in an NLB cluster scenario, there are multiple service instances and web service identities that run on different computers. Because the service identity varies for each node, you cannot rely on a single process identity to perform the validation. To work around this issue, you can generate an arbitrary validation key to support view state validation, and then manually configure each report server node to use the same key. You can use any randomly generated hexadecimal sequence. The validation algorithm (such as SHA1) determines how long the hexadecimal sequence must be. Generate a validation key and decryption key by using the autogenerate functionality provided by the .NET Framework. (Well, how to generate Validation key using .Net Framework?) In the end, you must have a singl

*SSRS 2008 Hi All My report has custom code, the code references Oracle.DataAccess.dll for accessing an Oracle Database. SSRS in place upgrade from 2005 to 2008 issue

I did an inplace upgrade of SSRS 2005 to 2008 and now the reports are throwing the following error. The reports were all working fine and there is a datasource with the name 'Data Source Name' without the '_'.  Please help.

  • An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
    • The data source 'Data_Source_Name' cannot be found. (rsDataSourceNotFound)

SSRS 2005 Heading Repeat problem.

I have a SSRS 2005 report using a table to display data.  I am using a parameter to change visibility of the first column depending upon the sort selected, so I am also using group headings to display the column headings (instead of a page heading) so that the column headings line up properly whether the first column is displayed or not.  The group heading lines are marked to repeat, and one contains a dataset field as heading information.  The table has multiple detail lines defined, and the last line contains a text field (memo field) which can contain LOTS of data.  If this field contains enough data that it takes an entire report page, the group heading is not displayed on this page, so all the column headings are gone for this page.  That is my problem.

There is a lot going on in this report, and the design, as it stands now, accomplishes all I need (dataset field in heading, optional column display with headings, proper sorting and breaking) with the exception of when this text field fills an entire page...in this case, the headings disappear.

Any thoughts on getting around this?  Thanks!

SSRS 2005/2008 - Chart with bar graph not generating on subsequent executions of report even with mo

For a report executed from Report Manager that has a bar chart component, regenerating the report via refresh or view with same input parameters either gives a different result that is garbled or an empty chart (2008) or no chart at all (2005). I have the report set up to not do any caching, so that does not seem to be the issue. Is there some chart option I may need to set to get the proper chart display.

Report conversion from SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2008

I am converting reports developed in SSRS 2005 into SSRS 2008. In the report design interface I have several rows and columans of data that calculate count or rate. In addition to rows and columns, I have around ten hidden tablixes in which report expression calls hidden codes inside tablix to perform calculation with main report. My problem is when I set hidden tablix propert into hide, I am not getting correct calculation in my report.  when I change tablix property from hidden to show I will get correct calculation but I do not want to see those hidden tablixes in my report page. Is there any way  you can still call expressions inside hidden tablixes without turning on tablix property show in SSRS 2008? Is it a bug in SSRS 2008 reporting system? Please help me out!!

My operating system is windows vista.

AAM Problem with SSRS 2008 R2 and Sharepoint 2010

I have a single server farm with Sharepoint 2010 and SQL 2008 R2 installed. I have an extranet zone configured - and this is working fine from the internet via a Forefront TMG box.  All features in the farm, including Performance Point pieces (reports/dashboards etc) are working fine via the extranet zone except for Reporting Services reports (these are working fine in the internal/default zone).  I can see the report library, and the individual report items via the extranet, but when I try to view a report, I get this:

" The Web application at https://extranet.company.asia/client/Report Library/Spend by Media Owner.rdl could not be found. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application."

My understanding is that multiple zones are now supported in Sharepoint 2010/SSRS 2008 integrations, and that AAM should propagate automatically (?).  Can anyone assist in helping me understand where to look next?

many thanks,

SSRS 2005 to 2008 upgrade: exporting to .PDF does not produce the same result

We have recently converted .rdl SSRS 2005 files to SSRS 2008 .rdl files. We do not have SSRS 2008 R2, we are working with the  first release. We are seeing issues when exporing a report to .pdf format:

1) when rendered in HTML, the function that displays page numbers (ie:page 1 of 2) for the report are correct. The standard function "Globals!TotalPages" is used to get the count of pages. We previewed a report in html in reports manager that had 1777 pages. when the report is exported to .pdf the last page displays page 1777 of 1816, even though there is no more pages beyond 1777.

2)When rendering the report in html a value is shown as "Caretaker1" but when exporting to adobe .pdf version 9.3, the same value is shown as "Caretaker2".

3)   One of our issues is

SSRS 2008 export to Excel margin problem

When rendering report from SSRS 2008 with custom margins (let's say 0.5in) into Excel, margins do not export correctly, or do not export at all, thus Excel sets its default margins.

I heard in SSRS 2005 it was not a problem.

Any ideas?

Getting SSRS 2005 to work on Server 2008 R2

I reinstalled SQL Server 2005 x64 Standard Edition SP3 on a Server 2008 R2 box and installed IIS and SSRS as well.  SQL runs fine. SSRS is installed all configs look good, but I cannot get it accessible via the browser (//localhost/ReportServeror //localhost/Reports).

I have tried both 32 & 64 defaults in IIS AppPools and each gives me an error and I can't find any other resources as to what the problem is?

32-bit setting is giving me this error on /ReportServer:

Could not load file or assembly 'ReportingServicesNativeClient, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.

64-bit setting is giving me this error on /ReportServer:

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error, Error Code 0x800700c1

32 & 64-bit setting are both giving me this error on /Reports:

HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized, Error Code0x80070005

SSRS 2005 SP3 x64 on Windows 2008 R2

Hi All, I was finally able to configure SSRS 2005 x64 SP3 on Windows 2008 R2 by disabling 32 bit applications.  However, I host other web applications on this server that are 32 bit.

I am planning to only disable 32 bit apps for the installation of SSRS and then go back and enable it for the applications that need it.  Does anyone know if this will cause issues?  Does anyone run SSRS 2005 x64 on Windows 2008 R2 and also have other 32 bit applications on the same server?

Export PDF in ssrs 2008 vs ssrs 2005 - pdf is different, won't work with itextsharp (possibly other

We're migrating from SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2008. We use itextsharp (a pdf processing library) to merge different PDF outputs into one large PDF file. This was working brilliantly in SSRS 2005, but in SSRS 2008, itextsharp *can* open and parse the PDF, but itext sees the "content" section of the PDF pages as blank. So, the resulting composite PDF ends up being a series of blank pages. Acrobat 9 and a couple other PDF tools (tested linux Evince and win GIMP) seem to be able to open the SSRS 2008-generated PDF fine, but the java-version of itext, and the .net version of itext (itextsharp) see nothing but blanks.
So, I realize this points to a problem with itext, but I'm curious if anyone else is merging PDFS outputed from SSRS 2008, and what PDF tools/libraries they are using.

Much thanks!

SSRS 2005 & SSRS 2008

Hi i have some doubt in configuring the web service address for both 2005 & 2008.

I do have 2005 in my system also have installed the trial version of 2008.

Previously i used to deploy reports to localhost/reportserver for 2005 and it was well.

But after deploying 2008 reports to the server <SystemName>:8080/ReportServer_SQL2008, its found that the ocalhost/reportserver to be not working. WHen verifying with its configuration the web service address was left blank (2005).

I tried changing the port number in the 2008 configuration (<SystemName>:8080/ReportServer_SQL2008 to <SystemName>:7979/ReportServer_SQL2008) but the reportserver page is opening where as <SystemName>:7979/Reports_SQL2008 is not opeing saying 'HHTP 04 Bad Request'

Isn't possible to have 2 different adreses to be working for 2 different servers?

if not kindly let me know the configuration to be done for tht..

THanks !!

DrillDown Problem in SSRS 2008

I have prepared one sample drill down report where in, by clicking on the country column's items states will be shown.

Ex.   +US... when I Click on '+' sign, USA states will be shown and '+US' becomes '-US', without altering anything if I Click on

+INDIA it shows states of INDIA and '+INDIA' becomes '-INDIA', at this point i.e when I click on '+INDIA', why '-US' will not

automatically become '+US' ?
