Internet facing SharePoint site - user shouldn't have to log in to change the langague

Hello, I am using SharePoint 2010 for Internet sites.  Anonymous access has been enabled.  Language packs have been installed so that users can switch to different languages as required.  However, the only way for a different language to be selected other than the default is for the user to log into the site and then the option would be displayed.....This is an internet facing site with anonymous access therefore users shouldn't have to log in to change the language.  Can someone guide/advise on switching the lanuguage of the site without loggin in. Thanks, Shelley

cannot access sharepoint site through Internet Explorer 8 on a machine running Win XP Service Pack 3

The Sharepoint portal can be accessed fine through Firefox. Opera allows me to access it, but I cannot sign out, check out a shared document or do anything which opens a small window on clicking an option.

I can stay with Firefox, but when I try to edit a shared Word document in Word I get the message "Edit document requires a Windows Sharepoint Services compatible application and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater" We need to edit a shared document/calendar which is uploaded. All I know is we are using Sharepoint 2007 and the version of our site is Does that mean we have Windows Sharepoint Services SP2 on our Sharepoint server?

When I try Internet Explorer, I cannot log on at all. I get a window which asks for my credentials which I enter, it fails to authenticate me, then shows me the You are not authorized to view this page message. I tried with different computers, but cannot get in using Internet explorer.

What could be the issue?

Our Sharepoint admin does not have time to look into such matters so I am on my own.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Creating and sharing new sharepoint site to internet, limiting user access

I am a new hire into an existing business as I.T. I know the networking, I know the computers. The owner now wants me to learn Sharepoint among some other things. They currently use WSS 3.0. I have been reading up on this for the last month. I think I am ready to extend the current site to make it an Internet site so the employees can login. Some other things we would like to do I have read up on and it looks like they can be done, things such as inventory tracking in collaboration with QuickBooks and creating a website / portal for clients to have a unique login on and can see the status of their jobs in custom SharePoint lists. As far as I can tell the clients need an AD account. However, apart from that I am not sure what to do. A little background.  The company has multiple clients, and we ship things out daily to those clients.  We use Sharepoint to track the status of the jobs as they progress through the stages ultimately going to delivery. There is one common page that lists all the jobs by all clients that is updated constantly. We would like to allow multiple (different) clients/logins and have a page customized for each client.  For example, you are a client and go to www.companyname.com/sharepointsite.html.  From there you would get to a portal page with a login. Once logged in you will be presented with the Shar

Can't view the SharePoint Site. Explorer won't take domain account

Hi, I'm having issues viewing the SharePoint 2010 Site that I have deployed from any workstation. It seems that my permissions settings have broken - even though I haven't touched them. Whenever http://start/ is visited (the Intranet top site) it asks for credentials. They should have been taken from the User that was logged onto the machine. E.g. NATWIDE\UserA. After entering the credentials, it doesn't accept them, and asks for them again. And again. And then blank page. I'm not receiving the SharePoint "restricted access" page... HOWEVER, when I log into the website via Mozilla Firefox - it appears that the credentials are fine, and it works according to the permissions set for the site from within SharePoint. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening. I'm completely stumped and I can't find a similar issue anywhere else. I have installed a Stand-alone installation of SharePoint 2010 Server Enterprise on Server 2008. The account that installed the SharePoint server and is a FARM Administrator, can't even log in to view the page. Cheers, Stu. Same server farm administrator domain account for both Intranet and Internet Sharepoint site?

Hello,   We are planning to setup 2 streams of architecture for both Intranet and Internet web sites. Just wondering whether there is any best practices/security concerns if we are using the same domain account as the Server Farm Administrator for both Intranet and Internet platform?   Thanks,

Publish sharepoint site on the internet?

Hi Folks, after reading a few other Q&A's on here thought i'd just have to write one myself and see what sort of responses i got.

I have created an intranet and internet website on a Server2008r2 box with sharepoint 2010. What i want to do is now publish both these on the internet. The intranet one so that people i work with can log in to it and use it for controlling documents and calendars etc, and the internet one so that I have a public accesible website for anyone to look at.

The sites have been created. The server is connected to the internet with a dedicated line. I just wan to get them out there now and start using them.

Noted on one of the other posts i may need an connector licence. Which is fair enough, but really what i want to do just now before i get things out in the open area of the net is just be able to connect to the sites myself for testing from any other internet connection.

So far im having no luck.

Whats the quickest and best route to making sure i can at least access the sites from the internet?

Any help would be great but this is however my first time working with Sharepoint and IIS properly so help IN DETAIL would be even more appreciated.

Im used to just using online hosts and not hosting myself.

Host-named site collections and content deployment jobs (SharePoint 2007 Internet facing Web Sites)

I have an editing web application with multiple site collections (only accessible internally on a dedicated port), and I've one public facing web application (on port 80). Now I want to create several host-named site collections in the public facing web application (to limit the number of web apps in the farm), and then use content deployment jobs to push the content from the site collections on the editing web app into these host-named site collections.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
Do you see any issues?

Drag and drop to windows explorer of SharePoint site leads to 0KB file

I believe this issue got by so many people already.

We have a sharepoint site running on HTTPS protocol. There are some scenarios we get multiple documents from customers and need to move them to SharePoint to share them across organization. For this, what we are doing is, we are opening the library and from Actions menu -> Open in Windows Explorer.

The windows explorer is opening fine and when we tried to move the files from local system to windows explorer of the SharePoint site, it is failing to copy data and showing 0KB moved. And at the windows taskbar it is giving notification like "Got network delayed write fail message." when we are doing this on XP. On any other OS, there is no notification and not moving the file.

We are not able to understand the problem. Why it is not able to move, everytime it is copying 0KB.

We can do using upload multiple files feature, but we have to go back and forth between folders and it will slow down the process.

Please help me out, why it is happening... It is not network issue at all for sure.

Using HttpModule to change master page dynamically on SharePoint 2010 site

I am trying to change master page dynamically on SharePoint 2010 site. I reviewed some documents (SharePoint: Dynamically Change Master Page: http://ranaictiu-technicalblog.blogspot.com/2009/10/sharepoint-dynamically-change-master.html) and I implemented IHttpModule, added it to GAC, modified web.config(safecontrol, httpmodule, module)
It works good! But I found some problems
1.Never catch the PreInit event for publishing pages
2."/_Layouts/RedirectPage.aspx" page occurred error
3.ContextMenu did not work

What I've done so far.
On SharePoint: - 1) I've created 1) Library for my Form-Template, 2) A Library for my Data Connection, and 3) A Library for my Form.
On InfoPath I've: - 1) Defined my Data Connection Options, 2) Defined my Form Options, and promoted the appropriate meta-data, 3) Defined the necessary Submit Options. and 4) Published the Form-Template to the SharePoint Form-Template Library.

Issue:  On SharePoint, when I try to create a New Form from my Form-Template, I get the error shown above <Alert http://sharepointsite/>- "This featre requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later and a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible XML editor such as Microsoft Office InfoPath."

Internet Explorer warning message pops up when switching between folders in a Sharepoint portal

Users can access a Sharepoint project portal through a citrix solution that my company is hosting. We use Powerfuse for administration purposes. Whenever a uses switches between the various folders on the Sharepoint portal the user is prompted with a "When you send information to the Trusted sites, it might be possible for others to see that information. Do you want
to continue? .... In the future do not show this message). The Checkbox "In the future do not show this message" is even checked but unless you press Yes, nothing goes.

The sharepoint portal is added to the trusted sites and I have also enabled several registry edits to try to remove the prompt. Among the changes I did was changing the 1601 value in the zones folder og the Internet explorer registry keys. When switching between the top layer folders you never get the warning message, but when you go one lever deeper in the hierarchy or switch between subfolders the warning prompts the user at every turn.

Let me know if there is any other information that I can provide!
