I have Visual WebPart that developed using VS 2010. Now I want to deploy that web Part in different server. There VS 2010 is not installed. When I using the command "Package" in VS 2010 one .wsp file is created in bin folder. But using that .wsp I can't do the following task: 1. Add safe control entry. 2. Place .ascx file in "Control Template" folder. can anybody tell me what is the process of deployment in VS2010 and SharePoint from One server to another. In VS2008 one setup.bat file was created that I can use for first time to create safe control entry and other staff but there is no so such file is created in VS 2010. Can anybody halp me on that.  Thanks tat --- Follow me @ http://moss-inside.blogspot.com/

Web Part Versioning and Deployment (properties only)

Suppose I have a 3rd party Web Part (source code provided, with Web Part deployed as a Feature) that’s installed and used in several Sites within a Site Collection.  I want to make changes not to the source code (which would require updating the assembly and deploying the changes as an updated Feature/Solution Package), but to property values of the Web Part that exist.  Say the WP exists on 10 pages, and I want to change the WP’s Title property from “Amazing Vendor Web Part” to “My New Title”.

First, would this be considered an “out-of-band” patch?  Not that it matters terribly how to label this…

Second, would the ideal approach be to simply add code within a Feature Receiver in that Web Parts VS project (the Feat

Web Part Namespace & Deployment Question

Hi,

I have a web part deployment and development question. Probably newbie questions..

For web parts which will only be used in certain web applications, I can definitely see creating custom CAS policies etc.. and deploying the dll only to the Bin of the Web Application, but what is the best practice for deploying a Farm wide web part that everyone will use?

I assume it goes in the GAC, and additionally, are there any best practices as far as the namespaces for web parts when they are going into the GAC?

For example, if I go into the Assembly folder and look at all the assemblies in the GAC, is it "okay" to have various globally deployed web part assemblies in there? Like, "MyCustomWebPart" sitting in there with the other sharepoint assemblies? Seems messy to me, but if these are "one-off" web parts that won't have a bunch of classes within a single namespace, it seems like what needs to be done.

Hopefully that was clear enough!

Visual Studio 2010, MVC2.0, IIS7, .NET4 deployment problem

I have a problem where I can get an MVC2.0 application using .NET3.5 running in IIS, but when I upgrade it to .NET4.0, the browser just reports error 500 Internal Server Error. The problem is easy to replicate as follows.  Firstly, to show it works with .NET3.5: Create a new MVC2.0 application in Visual Studio 2010, using the inbuilt starter template. Run the application using the development server, and the Home & About pages display fine. Publish the application to a directory. Copy the directory to a subdirectory under inetpub/wwwroot on my Vista computer, running IIS7 Create a new application in IIS Manager & select the DefaultAppPool (integrated pipeline) Browse the application and Home & About pages are displayed. Then the problem I have is after upgrading to .NET4.0: Change to .NET4.0 for the project in Visual Studio Build & this runs fine with the development server. Publish the application & set up IIS as before, except choosing the application pool ASP.NET v4.0 (integrated pipeline) Browse the application, and I get the 500 Internal Server Error I'm guessing there is some extra configuration required - can anyone help? I've deliberately used the default MVC installation to eliminate any variables caused by my programming .. Thanks in advance, Steve

Using Web Service in SharePoint 2010 Standard Web part using Visual Studio 2010

Hi All,               Have an issue with  Web service in calling  by SharePoint 2010 Standard Web part using Visual Studio 2010. If you can tell where I went wrong or tips to solve this would be great for me. What I have done is like this.. 1) Created new 'Empty SharePoint' project : as Farm solution 2) Added Web parts 3) Trying to add Web Service : There was no option for adding Web Service , so added as 'Add new Service' , this created entries in app.config file 4) ServiceName : shown as name space  (what  I'm  expecting is as Global  object with all methods ) 5) Created Object of namespace.ServiceName.ServiceSoapClient and tried to call one of it's method 6) Build and deployed 7) While viewing that web part it is showing an error as [InvalidOperationException: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'SerialKeyService.ServiceSoap' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element.]         Error in detail : [TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.]   at System.RuntimeTypeHandle.CreateInstance(RuntimeType t

Hi all, I'm at my wits trying to figure this out.  It's a new 64x computer running Windows 7.  I've installed Sql Server Express V8 R2. The connection string is user instance = true.  And the database is located in a directory off the main directory to which the connection string points to. The error I get when starting up my VB Express 10 app is "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file ‘C:\datadirectory\data.mdf’ failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located in UNC share. I've attached the database using sql server manager v10, and can see the data. Googling his error, there seems to be a lot of web-aps seeing this as well. I did have a problem after I installed sql server version 8 r2, just trying to create a database.  That was resolved by going through the IIS -configuration. If I can provide any other information, please let me know.  Cheers

Inserting List Item values from a Visual web part

Hi Geeks, I am struck here with one situation that is: 1) I created a enquiry list. 2) Then I created a visual web part it contains the same fields as enquiry list  as textboxes for entry. If any body enters the data and click submit. Those data must be reflected into the enquiry list. Please enlighten me how can I do this.   Thanking you.

Custom Web Part deployment with class library reference

Hi All, We have class library as a project in our solution as well as a web part project. Our web part simply references and executes a service utility class in the class library and outputs it into a label. The deployment is successful but when attempting to add the web part to the page, it comes out with a error page saying "File Not Found" with a correlation ID and date/time reference. Once we take out the code that executes the utility class, it deploys fine and we're able to add it to the page without any issues. It seems evident that any reference to our class library causes this "File Not Found" issue... but we're not sure how to implement this solution. Any ideas? Do we add the class library dll directly into the GAC?  If so, how? Is there another reference we have to implement in the AssemblyInfo.cs?  If so, what does that look like? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Eric

Install of wsp solution for visual web part ... how?

I have a newbie question -  I created a visual web part project that has a visual web part and an application page. It works well and deploys without issues on my all inclusive local environment using the deploy feature from VS2010. So to deploy this to the live server, I grabbed the .wsp file from the bin folder. Copied the file to the server and ran the following commands -   add-spsolution D:\MyWspFile.wsp Install-SPSolution -Identity "mywspfile.wsp" -WebApplication http://sp2010 -GACDeployment Both these steps work fine too. Then I go into the site features page to look for this solution but its name is not there (should it be there?). Next I go to the page I want to add this visual web part to but it does not show up in the list of web parts. The Timer job page in central administration shows the deployment as succeeded. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance, Jake.
