Move MySite with stsadm backup from FARM A to FARM B within same Domain

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi, I'd to move, with a series of "stsadm -o backup -url..." command, a lot of mySites from one Farm to another in the same Active Directory. Are there special Tasks after the "stsadm -o restore -newurl ..." command ? Can I handle MySite like a "normal" Team Sites ? I'm not sure what happen, for the Users after the new MySite URL become active (I hope it will not create a new empty one) ThanksTester

Same server farm administrator domain account for both Intranet and Internet Sharepoint site?

Hello,   We are planning to setup 2 streams of architecture for both Intranet and Internet web sites. Just wondering whether there is any best practices/security concerns if we are using the same domain account as the Server Farm Administrator for both Intranet and Internet platform?   Thanks,

Full Farm Backup Fails on Windows Sharepoint Services Search Database

I am just now starting to us central administration to backup the entire sharepoint farm.  All content backups fine except for the Search Database.  In looking through the backup log, it appears that the search database may not exist.  How can I determine if the search database actually does exist and if it does not can it be recreated?

SharePoint Userprofile synchronize with mysite userinfo in different farm

I am using Sharepoint 2007.... we have 2 userprofiles 1 userprofile for my intranet application in Farm1 2nd Userprofile for mysite in Farm2 both the userprofiles fetch data from same AD.  Onclick of mysite user is redirected to mysite in farm2 which fetches userinfo from farm2 If user updates any Sharepoint information (like picture, about me these are not from AD but stores in Sharepoint userinfo table) from mysite this information is not updated in farm1 intranet sites, this is because both farms use different unserinfo tables   is there any way i can update my intranet farm1 userinfo table with mysite userinfo

Farm account has a MySite - should it be deleted?

While configuring Form Based User My Sites I discovered that the System and farm accounts have My Sites (in the Shared Service Provider).

This sounds like a bad practice and I should delete these My Sites. I did a few searches on the Web and didn't find any data about this...

Should I delete these My Sites or just leave them alone?

Should I execute STSADM preparetomove when moving from one Farm to another Farm

Should I  execute STSADM preparetomove when moving a content Database from one Farm to another Farm

I am in doubt because PrepareToMove sets 'Moving' to True in the SiteSynch table of the SSP DB which signals to the profile sync job to ignore the DB which has the effect of not allowing profile syncs to occur for this DB.

And since the new Farm has a different SSP setting Movinf to true in the old SSP DB is not required.

Move a file from a Document Library to a location on a server not in the SharePoint Farm

I have an excel file I need to move daily from it's location in a MOSS enterprise edition Farm, to a location on a SQL server not in the farm but in the same domain. Is there some method I can use using OOB SharePoint or OOB SharePoint w/SPD?

Error when attempting to Update Farm Credentials using stsadm command

When executing the following command

stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin [login name] -password [password]

I get the following error

Error updating the administration application pool credentials.

Need help in updating my farm credentials and the only tool available generates a vague, non descript error.  Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

As a result of not being able to update the credentials I get the error message that the service is unavailable when launching the SharePoint Configuration Database.

Backup SharePoint 2010 farm configuration settings only get an error for not enough disk space when

I am trying to do a backup the Backup using the Backup and Restore feature in SharePoint 2010 Central Administration.  I just want to backup only the farm configuration settings only.

so I followed the GUI

Open CA Backup and Restore, checked the Farm checkbox,  click Next

I chose the following:

Backup Type :  Full

Data to backup:  Back up only configuration settings

Backup File location  :   use an UNC shared location   \\servername\sharedname

at this point,  I see the Estimated disk space required is:   1.2 GB

the server hard disk available space is  30 GB

but when i click the Start Backup,  i got an error in RED saying "There is not enough disk space. Free additional space on your hard disk and then try again. Approximate amount of space needed is 40 GB.   Amount of space free on disk:  30 GB."

Why is this happened?  and the estimated disk spaced required still showed at 1.2GB

If anyone had experience this problem and have a solution, please advice

Microsoft Sharepoint Backup - Server Farm Name

I am having problems backing up Microsoft Sharepoint Server Farms in a third-party backup solution.

When I want to add a server farm an 'add Server farm' box appears with the following message; To discover a server farm I need to enter a web server name that belongs to the server farm I want to backup. I suppose that the web server name is the FQDN of our WFE server. I fill that in and leave the default name for the Server Farm (e.g. Server Farm 1) but then when I click on OK the following message appears: None of the Web servers for the specified server farm could be accessed.

I don't understand. Do I have to provide the name of a specific server farm associated with the web server? I can't remember ever giving a name to my server farm. I've checked Central Administration but I can't find a name for my server farm. Does anyone have an idea what this could be?

MySite Employee Pictures not showing up within connected farm

I have two sharepoint 2007 farms.  One holds the global intranet content for all our opco's and houses the mysites.  The profile pages are enabled but not the personal pages.  We have allowed our users to update their employee pictures within their profile page.  Those pictures come through within web parts and lists just fine within this farm.  The other farm is in another domain and have connectivity to the mysite info on the other farm.  Within the secondar farm we are not seeing the pictures but get all the other data just fine.  What might be our problem with not seeing the image on this secondary farm?

Taming the Stateless Beast: Managing Session State Across Servers on a Web Farm

Running a Web farm means managing session state across servers. Since session state can't be shared across a Web farm with Internet Information Services 5.0, a custom solution is required. One such solution using a tool called the session manager is described here. The article begins with a description of the SQL Server database used to store state information, the stored procedures used to update it, and the retrieval of session data. ASP code drives the session manager tool and the COM and COM+ components that run the stored procedures.

Extracting Infopath form templates (with code behind) from a farm

I am in the middle of a migration of MOSS 2007 on server 2003 R2 to server 2008 r2, to be in the position to migrate to SP 2010. I am trying to extract form templates (with code-behind) from the old farm to the new farm. I did not set this farm up myself, so I would have copies of everything that was deployed to the farm, but now I don't. I have tried grabbing the .xsn from the Form Templates form library, and the form comes over, but no code behind, it says, The VB or C# project for this form template cannot be found. I have also tried extracting the solution files, and changing the file ext to .cab and opening the file up, only to find nothing very useful.

I need to extract and open the code up because I believe one of the forms that sends emails dynamically, is pointing to an old exchange server, because the emails are not getting through, and the exchange server was recently changed.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Sharepoint farm lost a server... How to proceed?

Had a Sharepoint farm I inherited that was running on ____ hardware in a ____ setup- raid controller failed, and the rack was setup so that I have to down 15 servers that might not come back up, just to get at the server... Complete, unrecoverable failure. This server was a member of our Sharepoint 2007 farm, and had Reporting Services on it. There are a lot of little pieces that are still referenced in the Central Configuration. I removed the server forcibly, and need to know next steps, specifically:

1. I tried to move Reporting Services to another server, but I get an error in the Grant Database privileges that I cannot connect to the Report Server's WMI Provider. I created a SPN on a DC, forced a replication a few hours ago, and still no luck. Any Advice?

2. How do I fix all the little things that reference that server? Anytime Sharepoint initiates a web page to Central Administration, it tries to use that server address.

I think the failed server was running SQL 2008 or SQL 2008 R2, and the server I am moving this to is SQL 2005 SP2. I have installed the correct Reporting Services for Sharepoint. Have I missed something?

Time is of the essence because management relies on Reporting Services and I am under a great deal of pressure to fix this. I appreciate any help I can get.

When we try to start the wss search service from the web UI we gat a 'system policies must have full control' message. I can start it manually but the app log is full of event ID's 6482:
