Authentication timeout while making AJAX call?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hi,I tried to take advantage of jQuery AJAX call to enhance user experience but I am facing a tricky problem.When the user does nothing for a period of time, e.g. 30 minutes to reach authentication timeout, making AJAX call becomes the problem. The server side will return login page and display in my target div section. The simplest solution I can think of is to inject a dummy tag in login page, and when detecting such dummy tag then use javascript to redirect to login page. But this means that I have to do that every time I make AJAX call. Is there any more decent way to do that? Regards,Charlie

Making Ajax Callbacks to the Server Using jQuery with ASP.NET

In the first part of this article series I introduced jQuery's functionality and how it provides a rich client side programming model. This time around I'll expand on these concepts and show you how you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET using it as an AJAX backend to retrieve data. I'll also discuss how you can create ASP.NET controls and otherwise interact with jQuery content from ASP.NET pages in WebForms.

jQuery is just a JavaScript library so it will work seamlessly with ASP.NET both from page code as well as through backend driven code using the Page.ClientScript object or ScriptManager. You can use jQuery on its own as a client side and Ajax library that communicates with ASP.NET or you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET AJAX. The two actually complement each other quite well as jQuery provides functionality that the ASP.NET AJAX library does not and vice versa. For the most part the interaction between the two libraries is trouble free except for a few very rare edge cases.

Using jQuery to directly call ASP.NET AJAX page methods

Here I am looking to explain how to call page methods using jQuery. Using jQuery to directly call ASP.NET AJAX page methods

Jquery Ajax Call to Mvc Action tips.

I try to do a ajax call via the jquery api.

The scritp :

$("#sortColumn").click(function(e) {
                var columnName = $(this).attr('name');
                var sidx = columnName;
                var sord = '<%= (string)ViewData["sord"] == "asc" ? "desc" : "asc"%>';
                var page = '<%= ViewData["page"] %>';
                var rows = "5";
                type: "POST",
                url: "/Mailings/GetData2",
                data: {'sidx': sidx ,'sord': sord ,'page': page ,'rows': rows },
                contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
                dataType: "json",
                success: function(response) {
                var jsonObject = (typeof response.d) == 'string' ? eval('(' + response.d + ')') : response.d;
                error: function(xmlHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) {
                    document.getElementById('infoContentHeader').innerHTML = xmlHttpRequest.responseText;

$.ajax post from asp.net page and __viewstate causing call to fail

Now I know that I won't be sending viewstate and eventvalidation in my ajax calls and that I will only want to send the actual form fields for efficiency purposes but I will need to know the answer to this question, to inform the more junior members of the team and my manager, so if anyone has any answers they are most welcome.

I have a simple form as follows

<form id="form1" runat="server">

AJAX call is not working on F5 load balancer web farm setup

I have the following web farm setup in production server.Browser --> HTTPS --> Load Balancer --> HTTP --> webserver nodeF5 Load balancer handles off box SSL termination. It implies that SSL resides on F5 load balancer. Problem Statement: Ajax calls do not go through unless "Access data sources across domains" option is enabled in IE security settings. I have the similar setup in staging server except F5 Load balancer. The ASP.Net application makes perfect AJAX calls on both HTTP and HTTPS.However, the staging server web farm use windows NLB and SSL resides on individual web server nodes

Get xhr object in vb.net when error occured in ajax call using JQuery.

Hi Dude,   I have a big problem in Jquery ajax call. I am calling the web service whenever click the update button. I have a separate web service class, in which consist of few methods. When I calling the web service method, I have made the error handling and log the error information in db after that I have to override the "ex" that means error object to XMLHttpRequest. Is it possible to assign the sqlexception to ajax object (xhr) in vb.net? Please help me its much more useful for me.   Thank in advance.

Ajax Session timeout problem

Hi,  I have some problems when using AJAX with updatepanels. I have an ASP.NET webapplication with a login that uses form authentication with the timeout set to 5 min. After 5 min of idle the site should be redirected to the login.aspx page. My problem is that after using the site for 5 minutes when clicking on contents inside an updatepanel I get a messagebox with the following error: A Runtime Error has occurred.Do you wish to Debug? Line: 4723Error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 12031  I think that it has something to do with the ajax updatepanel since when I remove the updatpanels this problem does not appear. Instead the site is redirected to login.aspx as expected. When searching on the problem on google I see alot of people having similar problem, but I haven't found suitable solution. Any suggestions?

Asp.net Ajax and session timeout

Hi, How do I handle a session timeout when using a updatepanel ?When the user session has timed-out and I click a button I get this error Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException - The message received from the server could not be parsed.I have tried to set EnabledEventValidation to false on the page but that didnt work, I have also tried to override the preInit on the page...didnt work either.Any ideas ?

jquery ajax call does not work after adding routes

Hi.   I've added routes to my asp.net 4 website so that, for example the page: "~/Main/About/Careers.aspx"  is mapped to the url:  http://localhost/mysite/careers/   I'm using jquery to make an ajax call and it simply does not work after I've added the routing, I used the following code, and it remains stuck on the spinner image:$.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "Careers.aspx/SubmitApplication", data: "{" + paramList + "}", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", beforeSend: function () { $(".applySpinner").show() }, success: function (msg) { $(".applySpinner").hide(); // Replace the div's content with the page method's return. if (msg.d == "") { $(".applySuccess").hide(); $(".applyFailure").show(); return; } else $(".applyFailure").hide(); $(".sentTime").text(msg.d); $(".applySuccess").fadeIn(1000); } }); Thanks.

Notify user of forms authentication timeout

When the forms authentication cookie expires, I'm trying to override the default behavior of redirecting to the login page, and pass a value on the querystring (timeout=true), so I can inform the user what has happened.I'm prepared to work out the logic to know if they have actually timed out or not, I just don't know the best place to override where the response is redirected to the login page.  The best place I can find is "FormsAuthentication_OnAuthenticate", but perhaps you know of a better place?Thanks!

Making sure AJAX is working.

Is there a way to make 100% sure that the postback happening is a partial post back and not a full one? I have a few pages done up using AJAX but I am not sure if they are doing partial or full post backs. I tried using "IsAsync"  but nothing is being triggered under it. I am using C# and .Net 4.

Measure Ajax call duration till page is rendered (including screen paint time)

I am using an ASP.Net AJAX application and I need to measure the performance of the AJAX call from the time it is invoked till page is rendered, including screen paint time.

I am using an update panel.

The screen paint time is critical since i want to record the time taken to render the output as well.

Dear Friends

I have a problem

condition : server = asp.net FW3.5 .... Client = just and just htmls (no server control /no runat ="server" att)

i open a ajax request from browser and that is ok

1. in case above  a page_load happend on server we all know that, but i cant determine is it asynchorus load or normal load

While building my excel file, do an ajax call

I'm in trouble here because of a little problem.

In fact, in my MVC project, I have a controller which build a Excel file and the return value is a FileResult.

for now, I'm using this like that :

<form id ="TransacExportForm" method="POST" action="/theproject/thecontroller/theaction" style="display:none;">

With the javascript :

As I expected, after 25 seconds, the browser send the window popup to download the file (which is what I want)

It works perfectly, but it's so long... It's why I would do some ajax calls in order to have a "loading gif", and when the file is "created", the browser send the message to download the file.

I tried a loooot of things (get, ajax, etc...). The file is created but the browser don't send any message to download the file.

If someone could give me an answer, it would be very great :D !
