Using Code

Separate sessions in browser tabs together with an ajax enabled web site

I want my tabs in my browser to have separate sessions. I  was told to use

<sessionState mode="InProc" cookieless="UseUri"></sessionState> in web.config

but when I read about it here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/h6bb9cz9(v=VS.100).aspx

the text says "When you configure an AJAX-enabled ASP.NET Web site, use only the default value of UseCookies for the cookieless attribute. Settings that use cookies encoded in the URL are not supported by the ASP.NET AJAX client script libraries."

I'm using Ajax so are there any ideas what I can do about this problem.

With Anonymous access disabled, is there any way to use an AJAX-enabled WCF Service?

I have a website where anonymous access is disabled but I want to user an ajax-enabled WCF service. Configuring the service's binding security to use "TransportCredentialOnly" with clientCredentialType="Windows" seems like the obvious thing to do; indeed, many posts in various places suggest this approach. Unfortunately, however, it doesn't work. I always get the error "Security settings for this service require 'Anonymous' Authentication but it is not enabled for the IIS application that hosts this service." How can I configure the service to function correctly. I'm running IIS 7.5 with .Net framework 4.0. Thanks.

How do I make changes in a website that has been partly pre-compiled

I have been asked to make some changes to a website developed by someone else and it has a lot of unfamiliar stuff going on. In the first place, the website has some strange file types: csproj, csproj.user and .designer.cs. Second, there is a folder under the root folder called Datalayer. I have been making changes to code in files in this folder, but my changes are not being implemented when I build and run the website. Instead, it seems to be using some pre-compiled version of these. Many of the aspx.cs pages have a line at the top: using OceanLED.DataLayer; There is also a /bin folder under the root folder, which contains a .dll file and a .pdb file for the website. There is also a /obj/debug folder, also containing a .dll file and a .pdb file for the site. Finally, when I try to build, I get loads of these cryptic warning messages: Warning 1 The type 'OceanLED.DataLayer.WarrantyClaim' in 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\OceanLED\DataLayer\WarrantyClaim.cs' conflicts with the imported type 'OceanLED.DataLayer.WarrantyClaim' in 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\OceanLED\Bin\OceanLED.dll'. Using the type defined in 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\OceanLED\DataLayer\WarrantyClaim.cs'. C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\OceanLED\DataLayer\WarrantyClaim.cs 287 17 C:\...\OceanLED\ How do I get it to use MY code.

How to make mobile version of company website?

Hi, I'm about to begin creating a mobile version of our company's website, and I have some questions.  I've spent many hours reading and researching online, but I can't find some of the answer I need. 1.  How can I test a mobile website locally?  Are there emulators I can download?  Can I plug a phone into my PC and test from the device?  I'd like to see how the website looks on the device locally so I can make changes accordingly. 2.  With the different screens and resolutions on mobile devices, what is the best width to use for the page layout?  Is there a set width of pixels that is a standard to follow, or should it be set at 100%? 3.  What is the best way to handle mobile browser detection?  So far I've found that I should add code to the Page_Load event of the Master page of our website that checks Request.Browser.IsMobileDevice and redirects to the mobile site if this returns true.  Is this the best way? These are my biggest issues with getting started.  Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Error while running Ajax Enable website....?

Hi, I just installed and ran a simple sample and got this error below. I'm running using VS 2005. I have installed ASP.NET AJAX Extensions 1.0 and ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit. Look like the tool kit version is 3.5 that is not compatible with ASP.NET AJAX EXTENSION 1.0? But I couldn't locate the ASP.NET AJAX CONTROL TOOLKIT version 2.0. Any idea how to corect this error? Make Ajax CalendarExtender always visible on a modalpopup

Hi There,Using a modalpopupextender a panel having controls is poped-up as a modalpopup. The problem I am facing is how to make the Ajax Calendar always  visible on the modalpopup.Functionality of controls on modal popup:1. A calendar (use of Calendarextendar preferred) and a ListBox placed side by side. 2. calendar's behavior need to be exactly the same as that acheived using a Ajax Calendarextendar3. The Calendar is always visible. 4. The days selected by user are appended to the ListBox (with no repeatition)How to meet the above conditions? Any help will be gratefully acknowledged.

Using AJAX Extenders To Make Client-Side Happy

I am developing a web application that needs to retrieve, display and write data to an SQL database.  I'm trying to use AJAX and Javascripts in order to populate fields, lists and data, and to have button and calendar controls on the page that can update the page without refreshing and losing the data page.  Therefore, it's necessary that I find ways to doing as much as possible (ideally, everything) client-side, without page refreshes. Now, for security purposes, I've heard that there's a method for retrieving a copy of all relevant data from SQL at loading time, keeping a copy of it, perhaps on a separate page, and send-retrieve-display this data on my page, and then, at Submission time, write this data back to the Server.  This is to minimize hits to the Server and to preserve data integrity.  I've heard that doing this is called using an Extender, but we can't find examples of how this works so far. Can anybody provide me with a code example of how this is done and what it looks like?  Trying to find out how this is done, and decide if it's practical. Any suggestions and questions are welcome.

Ajax enabled user control

Hello all, I've just started to play around with MVC 2. The purpose of it is to evaluate the effort for our team to switch from ASP.net Forms to MVC. The start was quite simple. At the moment the MVC pattern and its implementation (conventions, etc.) is understood it seems to be simpler to get an application running in MVC then in Forms.   In one of our upcoming projects we have to build an Ajax enabled UI. We already work with the jQuery so it will be the library of our choice. The controls we have to build are more or less complex and most of them are based on a domain entity for which we have a class in our domain model.   Now I am wondering what might be the best way to build our ajax enabled user controls.   I have read a few tutorials and blogs about two potential options:   1. Extension methods for HtmlHelper 2. Partial views and Html.RenderPartial   Option 1 is interesting because we pass typed parameters to a method and the output is a HTML string.   Option 2 is interesting because we have way more possibilities to hook into behaviours of control / page rendering.   It would be interesting for me if you could share best practices.   Thanks in advance   nofxmojo

How to create Asynchronous website-make the site work faster?

Hi,I developed an ASP.NET 3.5 website to read a few XML files generated by a third party software and convert them to a single Excel Book. The entire process takes more than 1 HOUR and even before completing the entire work, the system comes back with a message like - "Page cannot be displayed" and it fails. So, I am planning to make this website an Asynchronous site (I think if I make this site asynchronous it will work faster and will not stop execution before completing - new ideas are welcome.) I am new to this concept. Can anyone help me with some examples of how to convert a normal website to Asynchronous website? At present my site has 3 tiers and the reading of XML pages and writing them into Excel are happening in the Data Access Layer. Thanks

Adding AJAX-enabled WCF Service to the Solution throws an error

Hi I am just trying to learn Ajax enabled WCF service, when I try to create a new web application and add new item "AJAX-enabled WCF Service" I get an error message that "The extension of type 'System.ServiceModel.Configuration.WebScriptEnablingElement, System.ServiceModel.Web, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' is not registered in the extension collection 'behaviorExtensions'. I had .net2.0/VS2005 and then I installed VS2008. I thought it might be an issue with Machine.config. So I am attaching my machine.config info. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>    <!--    Please refer to machine.config.comments for a description and    the default values of each configuration section.     For a full documentation of the schema please refer to    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=42127     To improve performance, machine.config should contain only those    settings that differ from their defaults.    -->    <configuration>      <configSections>    <section name="appSettings" type="System.Configuration.AppSettingsSection, System.Configuration, Version=, Culture=neutral, Publi

Problem when ajax enabled WCF Service returns EDM Objects

Hi there, Could you please help me with the following problem? - I have ajax enabled WCF service. It returns Customer Entity Type.  For example: [OperationContract]             public List<Customer> GetCustomers()        {            using (NorthwindEntities context = new NorthwindEntities())            {                return context.Customers.Take(10).ToList();            }        }  - But AJAX Client Library cannot display Customer( as Entity). I cannot see data in browser. Even it hits the breakpoint and returns 10 customers. - But if I make a plain class called "Customer2" with same fields and copy all the "Customer" into "Customer2" then it works. In this case I return List<Customer2>. Then it works like a champ and I can see customer in AJAX/DataView/List. - Why I need to create a class? Is this JSON problem? DataView accepts JSON data format. - I use VS2010, AJAX 4.0. - Do I need to add something else along with [OperationContract].   Regards, Rajan

How to view AJAX-enabled WCF service (.svc) file in browser

Hi I have created an AJAX-enabled WCF project TestWCFAjax having Default.aspx that uses the Add.svc web service.  When I select Default.aspx and run the app in VS 2008. It works perfectly, calls the webservice to do the desired task. But, I have following questions: 1. When I select the Add.svc.cs and run through VS2008, it throws an error "The type 'TestWCFAjax.Add', provided as the Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive could not be found.". And the web url on the browser points to http://localhost:4960/Add.svc. I didn't create any virtual directory. I tried creating one that points to my application folder - TestWCFAjax. Still it doesn't work. How can I view Add.svc service on the browser like what we can do with normal WCF service? 2. How can I use Add.svc (AJAX-enabled WCF Service) in another web application? Regards

Exception loading page with Ajax enabled WebPart/UserControl ?

The AjaxControl Toolkit has been configured onto our SharePoint 2007 Server, however when we bring up a page with a WebPart+UserControl, we get the following exception:

[4300] Exception Loading CPI RPI WebPart: System.Web.HttpCompileException: c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\a112516a\152cc84\App_Web_cpirpicalc.ascx.57bd6353.duu1hbuu.0.cs(138): error CS0433: The type 'AjaxControlToolkit.ToolkitScriptManager' exists in both 'c:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\AjaxControlToolkit\3.5.40412.0__28f01b0e84b6d53e\AjaxControlToolkit.dll' and 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\a112516a\152cc84\assembly\dl3\4bec602a\25bcac65_13efca01\AjaxControlToolkit.DLL'

The userControl+Ajax Portion of the WebPart works correctly when brought up under ASP.NET but not SharePoint.

Is there anyway to force this to go to the correct version?
