Load Balancing/Load Sharing features in SQL Server 2005/2008

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Is there any load balancing features in SQL Server? My understanding is that SQL Server Clustering is not a load balancing feature.  Other features seem to be more like load sharing features: Degrees of Parallelism Table Partitioning Resource Governor seems to be more like a resource allocation feature.

Incremental data load from MySQL database to SQL server 2008 using SSIS

I am looking for best solution to perform incremental data load from MySQL database to SQL Server 2008.  I tried to follow instructions from articles on incremental data load in SSIS  using MD5 hashes but I failed to make connection in Lookup transformation editor between MySQL Id (4 byte unsigned integer) and Id in SQl Server 2008 table which is  bigint. i tried to add  data conversion and convert MySQl Id to string. It works fine when you map this field directly to OLEDB destination but in Lookup component it failed.

Any input greatly appriciated.

Load balancing on SQL 2005 Standard ?

SQL 2005 Standard.

Hi I would like to find the best approach to load balancing some SQL 2005 Servers taking in mind also the future scaling out of tens or hundreds servers.

I found this article: http://goo.gl/zP1R that writes about P2P replication, Table partitioning and Database mirroring but:

- P2P replication is limited to 12 servers
- table partitioning is not related to our case
- From what I know Database mirroring is only a high-availability solution, isn't it ?

What do you think ? Which is the best solution ?

Is SQL 2008 better in this area ? Could I upgrade to better meet these points ?

Get a peek at the new security features in SQL Server 2005 from a developer's point of view. While there are lots of admin enhancements, there are also plenty of dev-specific security improvements you can take advantage of, such as endpoint authentication and support for the security context of managed code that executes on the server. Can Not load WPF project in Visual Studio 2005 on Win7 64 system, says "Project file not supported b

Dear all I am facing an issue in creating new wpf project or loading a WPF project in Visual studio 2005. I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Service pack - 1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=bb4a75ab-e2d4-4c96-b39d-37baf6b5b1dc&displaylang=en) but still I can not see the option for wpf project  while creating a new project. Generally we can see WPF listing under item File -->New-->Project--> ".Net Framework 3.0" in VS 2005. I have few WPF project and when i try to load them it says "Project file not supported by this Installation". My System Config is given below: OS: Windows 7 (64 Bit) VS: Visual Studio 2005 with Service Pack 1 .Net Framework: 3.5 (By default inbuilt in Win7 OS)   I am suspecting something bugging related to .Net framework 3.0 in Win7. We have one option in control panel to alter .NetFramework 3.5 under "Turn Windows Features on or Off" but there I can not see something related to 3.0 :-(.   Kindly suggest how can I load my existing project and how can enable option to create new wpf Projects.   I saw few solutions suggested by people on following Thread bt most of them related to Windows XP or Vista: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vswpfdesigner/thread/06cf7bca-982c-44cf-aec9-99cf399b3000 Do someone has solution for Windows 7 (64 bit OS)

Does SQL Server have to load and init statics every time a SQL/CLR managed proc is invoked?

We are working with SQL/CLR stored procedures, triggers etc and it seems that all assemblies we use are unloaded/loaded every time a proc or trigger or TVF is called. Is this true? Is there any way to retain data between invocations of procs? for example can I create some static struct or object that I can setup once and then just refer to after that, so that unless we terminate SQL server, the static data is always in memory? Thanks PS: This was originally posted here, but that forum seems to be rarely frequented.

Error starting SQL Server Agent - Could not load the DLL xpstar90.dll. Reason: 126

AD Service account password was changed.  Now the SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER) will not start even after updating the password.  Have no access into the databases.  Log files say "Could not load the DLL xpstar90.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: 126(The specified module could not be found.)."  Service Account has Full rights on system.  Any help in solving the problem would be great.

Moving a Copy of SQL Report Server 2005 and Upgrade to 2008

Hello, We have SQL 2005 Report Server in a Windows 2003 64 bit server box. We want to create a copy of this report server database somewhere in the domain, so that we can access it for a different purpose. My question is, will there be any complications with this? I'm thinking about the encryption key that's needed to access the database. If we are successful with this, we might also want to upgrade to SQL 2008. Thanks for your help,   Elizabeth K.
