MSSQL 2008 R2: Change Server Collation Steps, with user DBs already of desired collation

On the default instance of SQL Server 2008 R2, I want to change the server collation from the usual US default SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS to an application vendor's required collation, Latin1_General_BIN.  I understand that changing the server collation is essentially the same as changing the collation of databases master and model -- is that a fair statement? But my main question is, since there are user databases on the server that I would like to preserve, can I not simply detatch the user DBs prior to performing the server collation change, and then reattach?  The database collation of the user databases is already set to Latin1_General_BIN.  This article, Setting and Changing the Server Collation, at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179254.aspx says that to preserve the user databases, I should script all DB objects out, and bulk-copy all data out, because the DBs will have to be recreated and repopulated.  Can someone explain why I ought not simply detach and reattach the user DBs, given that they are already of the desired collation (i.e., the same collation that I will be changing the server collation to)? Your help much appreciated. -Tom

SQL Server Compact loses change tracking anchors when copied to device

I have a device app that use SQL Compact and uses sync framework to synchronize to a SQL Server 2008 instance.  In order to speed up the initial synchronization of my device app, I'm creating the database (.sdf) using the sync framework on the server based on the suggestion in this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd938879.aspx#HandlingInitialSynchronizationandExpiredSubscriptions Then I get it via a WCF service down to the device app.  I'm able to download the db and it has data.  When I sync however, the database doesn't seem to think it is syncronized.  It seems to have lost it's anchors.   The following code returns an anchor for my State table on the server, but not after copying it to the device. Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks FPASQLCeClientSyncProvider).GetTableReceivedAnchor("State")

Failed to change Farm Account in Sharepoint 2010 server, now Central Administration is not accessibl

Hello, I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the domain on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, for the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount. The account name was too long to be as a Windows 2000 name, so it showed there without last 't', e.g. MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccoun. I thought, Windows 2000 is long gone, so I didn't pay much attention, I think everywhere the account SID is important. I don't know if that is the real problem with my failure later, but it might be one of the reasons. I put MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pre

Change from MOSS embedded DB to SQL Server

We've just purchased Axceler Control Point but just realised it won't work with a standalone instance of MOSS 2007. Is it possible to install SQL Server then migrate from standalone to a SQL Server instance? If the answer is yes, a point in the right direction re documentation on 'How-to' would be appreciated. I apologise as this has probably been asked a thousant times already.

Report Server change

Hello All Experts,

In my live server we have total nos of approx 200 reports and 50 email subscriptions created by us.

Now we are planning to change our existing hardware configuration and due to some other reasons, now the current live server we will not use in future, In view of same we want to move our all our reports and email subscription to other new server and that new server will be our next live server.

Now the problem is that i have 50 email subscription which i have created in old server so how can i move this subscription to new server ?

Reports can be deployed to new server by taking the backup. Is there any other concern in such situtation?

Please suggest me and any other feedback regarding the same.

Cannot change the collation sequence of a Database in SQL Server 2008 R2

I tried two steps below separately: restricted user ran for 30 minutes then I stopped the execution; They obviously could not run simultaneously. I only want to operate at the database and not the server level. Our other key db is already in the desired collation. We'd like to have equijoins work on tables with the same collation sequences, and not have to use ETL or individual ALTERs for each table involved.

Second point: is CP1 below a 2000 only collation? That appears to be a patently false assumption in another forum posting. It appears to be a valid 2008 R2 collation is the point.

ALTER DATABASE DBNAME

SET RESTRICTED_USER WITH NO_WAIT;

ALTER DATABASE DBNAME

COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS ;

Unable to change autogrowth properties of SQL Server 2008 data and log files

I have used the GUI and the CLI to attempt to change SQL Server 2008 log file autogrowth property all to NO avail. In other words, there are NO error messages of any kind, indeed the CLI reports that the command completed successfully. But re-examining the database properties shows that NO change was effected.

For the CLI command, I have used the following with dots filled in for my database and logfile:

ALTER DATABASE ... MODIFY FILE ( NAME = ..., FILEGROWTH = 10%)

Why doesn't this work? How to make it work?

Thanks

SharePoint 2010 Foundation- Cannot Change Server Name?

I changed my server name yesterday and cannot access SP any more (Cannot connect to configuration database error).  This article:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288510.aspx says you can rename using Powershell but when I open the mgmt shell I get the error "“The local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets with FeatureDependencyId are not registered” . I ran the mgmt shell "as administrator"

I enabled TCP/IP and Named Pipes in SQL Manager and connected from a remote machine. Tried to add DBO to SharePoint_Shell_Access but get an error ""Cannot use the special Principal "dbo" (Microsoft SQL Server Error 15405)".

I have re-created this on a lab machine with a pretty plain vanilla install (Single Server). I tried to run the SharePoint Config but it says "not connected to a farm". Saw an article where you can disconnect from farm (that is the next prompt) and then reconnect. Tried and cannot reconnect...

I am really trying to avoid naming my server back to the original name, for it is a production server now (SharePoint not yet, thankfully). Any help would be greatly appreciated

CE Republishers (or How Can One Change Republisher Ranges through SQL Server 2008)

My company uses mobile devices to assist in inventory tracking across multiple bases around the world.  Right now, our main base is the primary Publisher for data to the other 3 servers, and at each secondary base we have a single merge publication that pushes/pulls data from the mobile devices.  However, there's one replicated article that always throws the 20660 error, regardless of the publisher range/subscriber ranges set.  What can allow this single article to be replicated to the mobile devices as well?

How do you change SliderExtender value from server without postback?

Right now, the SliderExtender value (when dragged around) will cause a normal postback on TextChanged.

My situation is, the server side code would also like to dynamically change this slider value.  When it does this, it changes the sliderextender value by javascript.  However, teh problem is, when this happens, another postback occurs raising the OnTextChanged event when a postback occurs.

So how can I change the sliderextender value from the server side withotu raising a postback?

I've tried to set autopostback=false, then set teh value, then setting it back to true but this wasn't workign in javascript.

ssis deployment issue - Unable to load custom dll - due to change in Sql server installation

Hello all

I had a strange issue in testing my package, after it was deployed to a Test server.

The details of the server

Sql 2005 is installed, in the D:\ drive

I have used a package, where i use a custom DLL to read values. Hence, i added that DLL to the GAC. I was in the assumption that this should complete my proceess of deploying this package.

However once i executed the package, i got an error - Could not load the Helper object.

Unable to CAST "system.object"  to namaspace.class.Helper.

I reviewed the setting on my macihine, since as part of development inorder to reference the dll i added this to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\SDK\Assemblies location so that i can reference this from BIDS. I checked that location in my test server, i was not present. This location was present in the D: drive ( i assume this was present since i installed my complete SQL Server in the D:\ ). I copied the dLL in that location and added it to GAC from that location. My package still failed with the same error.

To resolve this issue, i created the same path in the C:\ folder as C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\SDK\Assemblies

assemblies was newly created in C: and i added the dll to GAC from there. Now my package worked.
