Driving install of standard web install project from command-line

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I have a VS project (web service) for which I created a standard VS Web Setup project.  That project creates the typical setup.exe and project.msi files.  When run interactively, the setup prompts the user to select an IIS Site, a Virtual directory and the Application Pool.  I'd like to drive this setup silently from a script, passing the necessary args on the command-line such that the user isn't prompted.  I've played some with the args in an attempt to set those three prompts using properties, but without luck. Can anyone tell me if there are public properies on the MSI that would allow me to set those prompts via the command-line?

Can't install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition x64 from Command Line

I can't get R2 Express (x64) installed from the command line... x86 using this same command line works fine, just x64 is broken.

Using this:

Everytime it fails with:

2010-09-19 15:30:48 SQLEngine: : Checking Engine checkpoint 'ConfigureServiceBroker'
2010-09-19 15:30:48 Slp: --SafeSqlCommand: ALTER DATABASE tempdb SET NEW_BROKER ALTER DATABASE msdb SET NEW_BROKER

Additional messages in the SQL Server error log and system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe system-level error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB). This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Onlin

Install SQL Server 2008 x64 The INSTANCESHAREDWOWDIR command line value is not valid

My objective is to install SQL 2008 x64 on a brand new server running under Windows 2008.
VS 2008 and .NET 3.5 are installed and work fine.

I performed the following steps:

1.    Downloaded SQLFULL_X64_ENU.EXE from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/bb851668.aspx
2.    Unpacked;
3.    run setup.exe as admin
4.    on SQL Server Installation Center: Installation | click "New SQL Server stand-alone"
5.    I didn't change the installation folder (grayed anyway)
6.    Followed the instructions. I selected Database Engine Services

I get the error message "The INSTANCESHAREDWOWDIR command line value is not valid".

I then tried to install with command prompt, with identical results:
For command prompt install I used the following bat file:

c:\users\public\downloads\mssql2008\setup.exe ^
-/Action=Install ^

I also tried to use setup100 (including the parameter /Timestamp) but I get the error message "the timestamp must be set before its first use".

Install SQL 2005 from command line using a INI file.

I'm new to SQL customization and I'm currently trying to do a SLQ 2005 install using an INI file.  I'm trying to accomplish two things using the INI file.

1.  Install SQL Native client on drive D:

2.  Install SQL 2005 & all components on D:

Below is the syntax string for my INI file.  When excuted, the SQL Native client is installed in

C:\PROGRAMFILES\Microsoft SQL Server\100\SDK followed by a Windows Installer error screen after the SQL checcks are ran.

Any and all assistance would be appreciated.

How can I install Features into the Sharepoint 2010 Server Standard after the install?

I have installed SharePoint Server 2010 Standard. We are testing the functionality of the new system and what it can do. I got an upgraded copy of the HelpDesk and Knowledge Base Templates (Part of the Fab 40) from http://techsolutions.net/Blog/tabid/65/EntryId/17/Fab-40-Templates-for-MOSS-2010.aspx. They seem to be good, but there is a feature that is in the Server that is not installed that I need to be able to get both of these working.

The feature is: Web Analytics Customize Reports functionality (Display Name: WACustomReports).

I need to be able to get this feature installed and activated so that I can use these 2 templates. Is there someone that can help me with this issue?

NOTE: I have tried to use the command line for SharePoint Power Shell. It is not working. The files that it is looking for are not on the HDD where they should be.

Why I can't install Project Server 2010 on my SharePoint 2010 Server?

I recently installed on my server SharePoint 2010, SQL Server 2008 is on another box and all seems to work fine, except that when I try to install Project Server 2010 it keeps telling me that I need ton install SP 2010.

I already checked that the required edition of SP is the Enterprise, as far as I remember that is the edition I activated because I used the Product Key for the  "SharePoint Server 2010 For Internet Sites Enterprise", but to double check this (and correct it if I am wrong I went to the 'Convert License Type' page and not only it does NOT show what my current license is (information is empty), but also the box to type a new Key is disabled, so I am not allowed to try to change the one used.

Can anybody tell me what is going wrong?

MS SQL 2008 SBS install fails on Server 2008 R2 Standard edition

According to edition requirement (http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2009/03/23/requirements-for-installing-sql-2008-standard-edition-for-small-business.aspx), I thought I met the requirements but this link tells me not only I need both the standard edition AND in a domain??  I have Windows 2008 Standard R2 edition.

This is a standalone server and there's no domain.  I can promote it to be a domain controller but don't want that.  Is it the "R2" part that its failing.  I can downgrade to the non-R2 with SP2.  (Windows Server 2008 with sp2).

Deploying SharePoint 2010 VS Project form the Command Line

Visual Studio 2010 does a great job deploying when you right click on the project and select the deploy menu item.  It removes and redeploys appropriately if it is already deployed and is fairly robust for the most part.  However, there doesn't seem to be an msbuild /t:deploy target.  How does one run the deploy command that Visual Studio is using from the command line as part of the build (to run a unit test for example)?  I am not looking to lauch Visual Studio, but instead, execute the underlying command that Visual Studio is executing.

Standard way to retrieve command line arguments

What is the most equivalent method to get the command line arguments in web, asp.net,

simmiliar to an executable file application?

Thanks :)

"The project file .csproj cannot be opened." The project type is not supported by this install

Im running Visual Studio 2005, have installed the dotnetfx

and the extensions and the SP 1... I still get the error  ""The project file <file>.csproj cannot be opened." The project type is not supported by this installation."

Is the order of installation important?

If so what order?

I have Windows SDK installed.

.Net Framework 3.5.1 Feature not available to install on Windows 2008 Standard

Working with a new server running Windows Server Standard 2008 32 bit.  In "Add Features" for Server Manager .Net Framework 3.5 is not an option.  However it is showig in the Programs & Features.  The .Net Framework 3.0 does show.  I have removed the .Net 3.0, uninstalled 3.5 from Programs - reinstalled 3.5 and 3.0 is showing again in the list of Installed features.

Any explanation on why 3.5 is not appearing?
