Painted into a corner?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I am self taught with with Windows (NT) Services, WCF and ASP.NET.  I know just enough to get myself in trouble.  I've designed a solution that I don't know how to implement entirely.I have created a scheduled report generator using the .NET Report Viewer.  (Don't have SSRS available)  I have the report generating just fine in standalone code.  I need it to run 24/7 so it can output reports when the user's requested it.  I'll use an NT Service to run this function (mostly know how to do).  My desire is to also have the processing information accessible from an ASP.NET web page to start/stop or get status information.  I've started down the road of having a WCF service with a BackgroundWorker running.  I'm planning on starting the function with the NT Service so it will be running on server reset.  Does that sound like it will work?I see that I can run WCF with Single Instance mode so that I can get to it on web page connect, then back to it after the ASP session has expired.  Will this work?  I see there is lots of talk of a "long running process" in WCF.  Is the Windows Workflow what I need here?  Learning yet another technology can be done, but it gets expensive for my client.Suggestions or recommendations are appreciated.  Web links and reading are great.  Th

modal pop up extender close ICON or Cross in top right corner

I am using a modal extender pop up with dimensions 400px by 400px

and in the top right corner I want

to put a image cross that when clicked will shut the modal pop up.

I know to make the cancel control to the buttom image but I have

seen on some sites the image that seems to sit half in and half out the modal

pop up extender DIV box which the effect I like more than an image internal to the

DIV of the modal popup floated right corner.

I hope this makes sense and apprecaite any tips to do this

OnRender() called before the background is painted?

I'm playing around with a custom control derived from Control.  The problem is that
MyControl.OnRender() is called before the background is painted, so if there is a background brush the contents of the control are covered.

My intuition is that there must be a way to disable this behavior because otherwise this doesn't seem terribly useful... that, or I'm doing something wrong.

Bug/weird behaviour in HttpWebRequest corner case

If a response to a HttpWebRequest is "HTTP/1.1 204 No Content" AND (breaking the
standard) content is served, there will be no error. The next HttpWebRequest,
provided it goes to the very same server will throw a
"The server committed a protocol violation. Section=ResponseStatusLine"-exception
even though the request and response is valid.

This is not the case if the response is "HTTP/1.0" instead of "HTTP/1.1" and will
of course not happen if no content is provided.

It is my opinion that if an excpetion should be thrown, it should be done during the first response.

Here is an example (the first url-response is flaky, the second one is good, yet the second one failes):

static void Main(string[] args)

jquery round corner plugin doesn't work for me

 I'm trying to pass an bitmap and get method to pass it back with rounded corners, any help why this is not working would be great, currently the image comes back with out any changes.

public class ImageHelper
    public static byte[] RoundCorners(Bitmap imgin, int roundedDia, Color BackgroundColor)
            Bitmap bitmap = new Bitmap(imgin.Width, imgin.Height);
            Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap);
            g.SmoothingMode = 	(System.Drawing.Drawing2D.SmoothingMode.AntiAlias);
            Brush brush = new System.Drawing.TextureBrush(imgin);
            FillRoundedRectangle(g, new Rectangle(0, 0, imgin.Width, imgin.Height), roundedDia, brush);
            // done with drawing dispose graphics object.
            System.IO.MemoryStream ms = new System.IO.MemoryStream();
            imgin.Save(ms, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg);
            ms.Position = 0;
            byte[] data = new byte[ms.Length];
            byte[] Image1 = ms.ToArray();
            return Image1;

    public static void FillRoundedRectangle(Graphics g, Rectangle r, int d, Brush b)
    { System.Drawing.Drawing2D.GraphicsPath gp = new System.Drawing.Drawing2D.GraphicsPath();
        gp.AddArc(r.X, r.Y, d, d, 180, 90);
