Drop Down Listbox SelectedIndexChanged Event not firing when I programmatically change selection

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have two drop down listboxes (DDL1 and DDL2).  When DDL1 has an index change, DDL2 then has a refresh of list items based off SQL Server SELECT from a table.  The database isn't the problem.  Everything works perfectly when the user selects a new item manually from DDL1.But in my code, I save the user data from the selection of DDL1 in a separate table.  And then upon rendering of the page (Page_PreRenderComplete), I do a SelectedIndex assignment of the value of what's saved in the db table.  That works just fine, it selects the DDL1 item, but DDL2 is unaffected, as if DDL1's SelectedIndexChanged event isn't called like it would be if manually changed.  How can I get around this?Thanks in advance. :)

Creating a custom drop down field type with SelectedIndexChanged Event

Hi All, I am trying to create a custom drop down field type and I was able to acheive that using the MS link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb861799.aspx. As per the link, once the custom field is created we can override the "Validate" method to write the Validation logic and that works fine for me too. However I am facing a challenge even before going to Validate . Let me explain my actual requirements here. I need to build a custom drop down field and expose the field to the user in "Edit Properties " Page of a document library. Along with this field, I will be having some OOB site columns in the Edit Properties Page (Ex: Title, Subject etc)  . When user selects a value in the drop down, I need to hide/show few OOB site columns based on certain criteria.  I am facing a challenge of how to capture the "SelectedIndexChanged " event for the Custom drop down field in Sharepoint (Can we wire the SelectedIndexChanged event to a custom dropdown field type) ? Is this acheivable in SP 2010 Custom field type ? If so, how can I do it ? Can any of you kindly help me here?   Regards, Yesh

Programmatically Simulating the ListView's ItemCommand Event

I have a User Control that contains a ListView.  In the user control's code is this event handler:

    protected void listView1_ItemCommand(object source, ListViewCommandEventArgs e)
    {
      Button_ClickHandler(source, e);
    }

What's occurring is that I'm explicitly firing an event so that the parent web page can monitor this and take appropriate actions.  Thus when the user clicks on a different ListViewItem it triggers the population of associated data elsewhere on the web page.

This all works fine except for one thing: When I first load the control I'm pre-setting the first ListViewItem.  Unfortunately, just setting the ListView's SelectedIndex = 0 doesn't fire the aforementioned event handler.

So I started investigating how to call "listView1_ItemCommand" but couldn't figure out how to instantiate the "e" parameter.

Any ideas of how to resolve this?

Adding client event handlers to an ASP.NET controls programmatically

Guys,

I want to add client event handlers to ASP.NET controls (For example: GridView/Button ) programmatically to ASP.NET.

I am aware of "onclick" event handler, so my code would be

GridView1.Attributes.Add("onclick", "JSGridViewFunction()");

Button1.Attributes.Add("onclick", "JSButtonFunction()");

I want to know what are all the event handlers that are available for (or that can be added to)  ASP.NET controls.

For example, I want to add "onsort" event handler to ASP.NET GridView control.

But the following code fails

GridView1.Attributes.Add("onsort", "JSGridViewFunction()");

Please help.

Thanks

MouseUp event not firing on ActivityDesigner class?

I have a custom control derived from ActivityDesigner.  I'm basically retemplating the contol to give it a stylized look and feel ... I want to add the ability to change the Display Name by swapping out the TextBlock with a TextBox on MouseUP - but this event is not firing. I can handle the MouseDown event and it works OK, except it enters the Edit mode when dragging the activity around.  Is the MouseUp handled at the base level?  Is there a way to work around this?

ListBox/ListView Selection

We are implementing drag/drop on ListBox/ListView items with the extended selection mode. The extended selection mode allows multiple items to be selection simultaneously by holding the shift or control key while selecting additional items.   In Windows Explorer, when an individual item among a group of selected items is clicked, all of the other items are not deselected until the up-click event. This allows an individual to select the desired group and then click and drag this group as a whole to the desired destination.   In WPF, the group appears to be deselected and the individual item selected on the down-click event. This means that in order to drag a group of items, you must hold shift, click and hold the mouse on the desired range of items and then drag the group. If the group is selected first and then the mouse released, the individually clicked item is selected when a drag attempt is made on the group.   We are using WPF, but would like to see the Windows Explorer selection functionality. Any thoughts on how to reconcile these two implementations? The most straight forward fix would be a custom control, possibly derived from ListBox/ListView, but this seems like it might be reinventing the wheel. Seems like the WPF controls are not designed properly here.   Thanks.
