GridView crashes when user enters html open "<" or close ">" characters in a textbox

My GridView is bound to a sql data source and allows editing of fields. Coding is in C# and JavaScript. Using Visual Studio 2008 in test mode, if I enter a less-than "<" or greater-than ">" character in a GridView textbox an error is immediately thrown upon pressing enter: "Microsoft Visual StudioMirosoft JScript runtime error:Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown erroroccurred while processing the request on the server. The status dode returnedfrom the server was: 500"When the < or > is entered in production, the page aborts and loads the application start page. I need to be able to catch and replace those characters BEFORE the error is thrown. I've tried hooking OnTextChange code to the textboxes, but the error is thrown as soon as I press enter...the OnTextChange code never runs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Limit characters in multiline textbox on formview

I have this working perfectly on a normal webform without a master page or formview.

Label1 is counting the values in TextBox2 and limiting them to 10.

I need this to work in a formview with a master page but I just can't get it to work. Can someone please advise how I use this with the controls being in a formview or even a detailsview.

Thanks for any help.

    function checkLength(con)

if(con.value.length >= 10)

return false;

document.getElementById('Label1').innerHTML = (9 - con.value.length) + ' Chraracters Remaining';return true;

function setRemaining()

document.getElementById('Label1').innerHTML = (10 - document.getElementById('TextBox2').value.length) + ' Chraracters Remaining';

if (document.getElementById('TextBox2').value.length > 10)

document.getElementById('TextBox2').value = document.getElementById('TextBox2').value.substring(0,10);

Textbox - how to intercept special characters ?

I need to handle keypress Ctrl-1..9 and Alt1..9 when the focus is in a TextBox.

I have tried PreviewKeyDown on both the form and the derived TextBox class, but neither get called in the case of special characters.

I see one solution is to create and attach a routed command per key, but I'm wondering if there is any other way to do this?

TextBox MaxLength Property not enforced for Tablet PC Input Panel using Writing Pad

I have developed a sizeable Wpf application to target the XP Tablet PC 2005, running on a UMPC. However I have hit a serious issue with the TextBox MaxLength property when using the Tablet Input panel to input hand writing recognition to my application.

When using keyboard or Input Panel text input, the MaxLength property is enforced as you might expect. However if the writing pad is used and the MaxLength is exceeded an Exception of type 'System.ExecutionEngineException' is thrown, and the application terminates.

Code Snippet

<TextBox Name="textBox1" MaxLength="25" />

I have built a simple test application to demonstrate that the problem is not isolated to my particular application.

RegExp Password without accent and special characters

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for an expression that corresponds to the following criterias:

  • Length must be at least 6 characters, no more than 10 characters,
  • Must include at least one upper case letter,
  • Must include at least one lower case letter,
  • Must include at least one numeric digit,
  • Special characters (like %, #, and so on...) are not allowed,
  • Accented characters (é, à, ï, and so on...) are not allowed.

Here is my expression : ^(?=.*\d)(?=.*[a-z])(?=.*[A-Z]).{6,10}$ It answers to the first four points above but not the last two ones. Does anybody has an idea to remove special and accented characters ?

Thank you so much for support.

Textbox Editable GridView in ASP.NET

This article describes how I made a fully editable gridview in C# using ASP.NET 2. The idea is that the GridView looks and works like an Excel spreadsheet. You see all the cells in the table, and you can edit any of the cells you like, and they are automatically updated (i.e. saved to the database). This is very often how people expect data tables to work in web pages, and I've often seen people clicking in vain on un-editable gridview cells, somehow expecting to edit them, and not understanding that they need to click an Edit button at the end of the row.

Highlighting Rows with TextBox OnFocus

In another article I explained that how you can make the rows of the GridView control clickable and highlight them when they are clicked. In this article I will explain that how you can highlight the GridView rows when you focus on the TextBox which is contained inside the GridView control.

Writing custom MembershipProvider

ASP.NET Membership mechanism allows to use the build-in server tables to store and retrieve user data. By default, this mechanism can only be used with SQL Server database to which Microsoft provides suitable MembershipProvider class.
Inheriting from this abstract class, developer can use his own table(-es) from any database and use any database engine other than SQL Server, like Oracle, DB2 etc.

10 Tips for Writing High-Performance Web Applications

Writing a Web application with ASP.NET is unbelievably easy. So easy, many developers don't take the time to structure their applications for great performance. In this article, I'm going to present 10 tips for writing high-performance Web apps. I'm not limiting my comments to ASP.NET applications because they are just one subset of Web applications. This article won't be the definitive guide for performance-tuning Web applications-an entire book could easily be devoted to that. Instead, think of this as a good place to start.

Custom Editing Behavior for DataGridView TextBox Columns

For various reasons I'm using a DataGridView instead of a ListView, and while configuring the DataGridView to look like a ListView wasn't much of a problem, there's one thing that got on my nerves, which is the behavior of textbox cells in edit mode: It is much too easy to leave the edit mode accidentally, simply by pressing the cursor keys at the wrong time. For example when the text caret is positioned behind the last character of the textbox cell content, and you press the right arrow key

Editable Gridview with Textbox, CheckBox, Radio Button and DropDown List

This is an example of an editable gridview containing different ASP.NET controls. When user wants to edit values in gridview, she/he can use these controls to edit existing values in Gridview Edit Mode.

Writing Custom Web Parts for SharePoint 2007

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, SharePoint 2007 is built on top of ASP.NET 2.0, which means you can now use ASP.NET 2.0 features (Forms Authentication, Master Pages, Membership, Site Navigation, New Data Controls, etc) when building SharePoint sites. This is true for both the new Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 version (which will be a free download) as well as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (which costs money).

watermark textbox using Ajax control

This is pretty simple compared to jquery. Since we need refer a dll only. we dont want any script for this. we just include that reference into our website.

Reading and Writing Images From a Windows Mobile Database using UltraLite 10(C#)

Periodically I get a request for information on how to read and write binary data to a database running on Windows Mobile. If you search the Internet you can typically find examples that are available on Windows Desktops or allow you to read and write to a local file system. The problem is that it can take a bit of work to get this code to work on Windows Mobile accessing a database.

Ultimately you might be asking, why would I want to store and image in a database? Well in an environment where you synchronizing data between a local mobile database and a consolidated (central) database this can be extremely useful. Imagine if an insurance adjuster went to an accident scene, took a picture of a damaged car, loaded it into his Windows Mobile database and then replicated that image up to the Insurance headquarters for approval. All of this could be done in a very short period of time when using images in the database. Another good example might be a doctor who was waiting for a patient chart to become available. If you could store the image in a database this chart could be sent down to the doctor's device once it became available.

For this article I am not going to get into how to synchronize the images to and from a remote and central database as this is typically fairly straightforward when using a data synchronization technologies like MobiLink
