installing powerpivot on Sharepoint backend databases

I am having Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise RTM (Farm & Complete installation) on Windows Server 2008 SP2 on Machine 1 (M1) and SQL server 2008 R2 is setup on Machine 2(M2). I have done this by giving M2 Database Server Name during Sharepoint Configuration Wizard on M1. Everything is working fine...

Now I want to install Powerpivot features and I don't know how it can be done ?

I have Run SQL server setup on M1 but this will install PowerPivot on M1 (as Powerpivot installation does not enquires about Server / Machine name).

I have Run SQL Server 2008 R2 setup on M2 which gives me the following errors:

-The User is not a farm administrator (but I am)

-PowerPivot for Sharepoint is already installed on this Computer (I have checked it hasen't)

-This option can only be used on a server that already belongs to a sharepoint server 2010 farm ( I don't know what it means... )

Can anybody helps me out ?

Installing and Uninstalling Services

Installing and Uninstalling Services.Unlike most projects you create in Visual Studio .NET, Windows Service projects cannot be run directly from the development environment by pressing F5. This is because the service in the project must be installed before the project can run.

You can quickly install your service application by using a command line utility called InstallUtil.exe.

Abstract Factory Design Pattern (Sample in C# and VB .NET)

An abstract factory provides an interface for creating families of related objects without specifying their concrete classes. Sometimes one wants to construct an instance of one of a suite of classes, deciding between the classes at the time of instantiation. In order to avoid duplicating the decision making everywhere an instance is created, we need a mechanism for creating instances of related classes without necessarily knowing which will be instantiated.

Installing and configuring SharePoint 2010

The following steps show how to install SharePoint 2010 on VMware workstation 7.0. Host computer used during the preparation of this walk-through was a Vista (32-bit) machine and guest machine used was VMware workstation 7.0 with Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (64-bit).

Installing both VS Pro 2008 and VWD2008

I work at an educational institution and in our computing labs we have Visual Studio Professional 2008 installed already. One of our academics has requested me to install Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition as they think it's easier for their beginner students to learn, but I've noticed it wants to install it in the same folder as our Visual Studio Professional install.

Can both be installed without the limited VWD interfering with the Professional version?

Toolbox: Analyze HTTP Traffic, Synchronize Databases, and More

Debugging Web applications can be a difficult process due to the logical, physical, and temporal differences between the mishmash of technologies that comprise such an application. For bugs that arise from the HTML and script received by the browser or in the transfer or request of a page's markup, developers often adopt archaic debugging techniques, such as using View Source and Notepad to scrutinize the contents received by the browser.

Windows UI: Our WinMgr Sample Makes Custom Window Sizing Simple

Programmers using Visual Basic have always had an advantage over C++ programmers when it comes to component and window sizing. There are many third-party Visual Basic-based solutions to this age-old problem, but unfortunately, there are few elegant alternatives for the C++ crowd, short of using a full-fledged windowing toolkit. This article explains how to circumvent the tedious task of hardcoded pixel arithmetic. It starts by introducing a window sizing rules system, and then moves on to show how CWinMgr, a data-driven class, can intelligently manage an MFC application's window sizing.

Installing a httpModule on IIS6

I am trying to install a httpModule on an IIS 6 web server. I have the same module working on an IIS 7 test box, but we still have a couple of IIS 6 boxes to support.

The module is:

  • c# .NET 2.0
  • registered in the GAC
  • added to the system level web.config (as we want this for all applications on the box). I followed the instructions from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms227673.aspx. I tried it with both short name (as in the web page) and the full strong name (like the other entries in the <httpModules> section.

So, I am at a loss as it does not appear to even being called and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Looking for a simple Service and Console Client REST sample implementing BASIC authentication

Does anyone know of a C# code sample demonstrating WCF REST services and console test client with OperationContracts (GET and POST) implementing mutiple paramaters using BASIC authentication? Also, perhaps, using Fiddler as a test client as well? I have searched high and low for something like this, but have not had any success.
