BDC deployment failing because Identifier1 cannot be found

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 10, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I am trying to create a BDC Model in VS 2010. I started with the VS 2010 template "Business Data Connectivity Model". I changed Entity1 to Products and its Identifier to ProductID. Then in the BDC Explorer changed the ReadItem and ReadList methods to reflect these changes including changing Identifier1 to ProductID. Now when I try and deploy I get these errors. ------ Build started: Project: SPDev1, Configuration: Debug Any CPU ------   SPDev1 -> C:\Dev\SPDev1\SPDev1\bin\Debug\SPDev1.dll   Successfully created package at: C:\Dev\SPDev1\SPDev1\bin\Debug\SPDev1.wsp ------ Deploy started: Project: SPDev1, Configuration: Debug Any CPU ------ Active Deployment Configuration: Default Run Pre-Deployment Command:   Skipping deployment step because a pre-deployment command is not specified. Reporting Services Deployment Failing

Hi, I am deploying Data Sources & RDLs on SharePoint 2010 and SSRS 2008 r2. I am using 2 box deployment with SharePoint FE and SQL Server 2008 r2 BE with Reporting Services Installed. I have created and given the permissions to sharepoint groups and databases on the Reporting Server Instance. I am using .net utility using sharepoint dlls that deploy the data sources on rdl. If i have SharePoint + BE on the same box deployment works fine. When i have 2 box deployment i am getting the following error in the reporting service log. cube deployment fails- A duplicate attribute key has been found when processing

I am trying to create a cube using the same process that I always do. however this time I get an error message "Warning 4 Errors in the OLAP storage engine: A duplicate attribute key has been found when processing: Table: 'dbo_ALL_ResultsNewest', Column: 'MktCapGroup', Value: ''. The attribute is 'Mkt Cap Group'.  0 0
This is using alot of data but I have created similar size cubes before. I create simple cubes with a single dimension and all the attributes related to a single master attribute. I am a data analyst, not a technologist and don;t have any real understanding of cube internals beyond the basics.

Pages not found after deployment - why?

I need some guidance to track down the cause of my problem.

I have developed and tested a simple MVC web application on a virtual Windows 7 PC using VS2010 and .NET Framework 4.

I have created a .zip deployment package which I copied onto a WindowsXP pc and installed by running the generated cmd file.

When generating the package all default deployment options were used.

When I open my default.aspx my first page is displayed but all other pages return with an error 404 page not found.

I have not applied any security - anonymous is enabled.

   Shared Sub RegisterRoutes(ByVal routes As RouteCollection)

        routes.MapRoute( _
            "Default", _
            "{controller}/{action}/{id}", _
            New With {.controller = "Home", .action = "Index", .id = ""} _

        routes.MapRoute( _

Handling 404 page not found with Error page

      How do i handle 404 page not found?

scripts file not found on server - 404

Fiddler is showing a 404 error when my published web application runs. the jquery.js file in
/scripts is highlighted in red by fiddler as not found. ( IIS log also shows the 404 error ).
I run the web app from visual studio, on local host - no problems. The publish is successful.
All the files are in the scripts folder of the web app on the server.

In the site.master I have:
<script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

Visual studio does not complain about this. ( which indicates the file is found. )

Oddly, when I fully qualify the path, VS says file not found, but after I publish and run, fiddler
shows the jquery file being found and sent to the browser.
<script src="/MvcApplication1/Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

when the <script> path is "../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js", the fiddler error is
404: /Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js .

when the <script> path is "/MvcApplication1/Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js", fiddler shows the file
being sent to the browser from that /MvcApplication1/Scripts path.

Both the Scripts fol

urlrouting - page not found error

I have a dynamic data site setup and running locally fine from vs 2008.

When i deploy to a remote windows 2003 server (IIS6), all the pages also work ok apart from one page/table.  I can access it's list page,  but the edit and insert pages throw 404 errors.

I'm thinking it's a url routing/hosting issue as i've copied back the database from the remote server and it all works fine on my local machine.

Is there anything i can do to debug this behaviour?

Below is my register routes entry from the global.asax

Any suggestions greatly appreciated as, i've been stuck on this for days :(

public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes)
    MetaModel model = new MetaModel();
    model.FieldTemplateFactory = new AdvancedFieldTemplateFactory();

    model.RegisterContext(typeof(Sponsorship.Data.Entities), new ContextConfiguration() { ScaffoldAllTables = false });
    model.DynamicDataFolderVirtualPath = "~/admin/DynamicData";

    routes.Add(new DynamicDataRoute("admin/{table}/{action}.aspx")
        Constraints = new RouteValueDictionary(new { action = "List|Details|Edit|Insert" }),

Debugging ASHX after deployment

I'm finished with a part of my ASHX handler and need to test it against the software that'll be calling it using HTTP POST. The software required an https url so I created an internally hosted site in IIS and published the project there.

Question now is how do I do any debugging on the script to see what data is coming out of it before the data goes back into the software that's calling it? Do I set something on the project itself to be able to step into the published DLL?

DirectoryEntry type not found

Bitmap FromFile space "file not found"

I am using aspose.slides to create PPTx's. Some of the process involves loading jpg's from another server and including them in the presentation. This works fine in my development environment. When I upload the site to its server, the jpg loading fails.

I am trying to access jpg's on the other server by:

   oFS = New FileStream(sFile, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)

This causes an access violation error when run from the server.

I also boiled the code down to reading the file directly:

   oImg = System.Drawing.Bitmap.FromFile(sFilePath)

This causes a file not found error.

We have narrowed the problem down to the fact that the File Path has a space in it. How does one solve this problem (while still keeping the space, there is a lot of legacy data)? I have tried replacing the space with %20 or +. I have tried using Server.UrlEncode. The error message always comes back with the encoding in place (like no decoding

Multiple MSIs from one deployment project

We have several .NET based products for which we need to generate multiple MSI files to allow for multiple instances of the same app to be installed on the same machine.  For instance, we might have a single server running version of the app that are pointed at either test or QA databases, or may use the same server box to deploy the product for multuple clients.  (So, for instance, our web server might have separate installs of the same code in different locations for product names "Client A test", "Client A QA", "Client B Test", etc., where the only real differences are in the web.cionfig files that are not overwritten by the install of a new version.)

Right now we simply have a deployment project for each named variation of the app.  This works, but is likely to become a maintenance mess as the number of instances grows.  We'd like to be able to maintain only a single deployment project and script the creation of multiple MSIs, one for each product variation, after the build of a baseline MSI.

As I understand it, this should be acheivable by building the MSI, then for each possible instance, making a copy of the MSI and giving it a unique ProductCode and PackageCode; this way Windows should recognize each instance as a unique application.  I've done this (as well as changing the produc

web deployment project (WS_deploy) on VS2008

I am building a asp.net webservice in VS2008 and the web service compiles and debug fine. The project should be using : Net 3,5

 I have

  1. VS2005 and VS208 installed
  2. .Net 1.1 - 3.5
  3. WebDeploymentSetup for VS2008 (and most likely a version for VS2005 as well)

But when I add a web deployment project the fun stops. The .WS_deploy project will not compile and I cannot find any precompiled output.

vs2010 web deployment project restarts w3svc even when restartwwwservice = false

We've updated some of our projects from VS2008 to VS2010.  When these projects are deployed the w3svc is restarted on the target machine, even when restartwwwservice = false in the vdproj file.

This was a problem in 2008 until SP1 (http://forums.asp.net/p/1300097/2534736.aspx).  Does this same problem exist in VS2010?

This is a major problem for us -  we need to be able to deploy projects without restarting IIS.

I've tried creating a new web deployment package and setting the restartWWWService field to false, but this still does a restart when it's installed.

Has anyone come across this problem in VS2010?

Web deployment project - web.config section replacement does not add remove tag

I have a web application that is actually installed as a component of a third party site.  In some configurations, I need to remove certain connection strings and re-add them.  I'm replacing this web.config section with a xml file that includes the following:

      <remove name="MyOverridenConnection"/>
      <add connectionString="Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Data Source=MyServer" name="MyOverridenConnection"

For some reason the remove tag is left out during the substitution and I end up with the following in the installed config:

      <add connectionString="Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Data Source=MyServer" name="MyOverridenConnection"

Is there any way to issue removes in replaced sec
