Filtering web parts without reloading the whole page

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 10, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I don't know if this is possible or not, but I am going to ask anyway. I have several performancepoint reports on one page, all connected to different filters. I was wondering if there is a way to make only the report you are changing the filter on reload.  For example, I have a census of people that uses a time intelligence filter to show different periods of time.  If someone selected, "Last Six Months," on the filter, I would like just that census report to reload, as opposed to the whole page, which has to reload about 5 other reports. Is there a way to do this?

reference from menubuttons to text parts in article on the same page

Hi, I'm searching now for hours but couldn't find it.Cry

In my menu i have several buttons which (by a <a href..) should go the a part of an article that is in the same form.

Menu button : What is a database should go to the page default.aspx and in there is an article published.
A part of this article is having a piece of text about "what is a database"

Menu button: how to make a query should go to this same article in the same page but then to the part that is have the piece about the query. The next could be an example of what i'm doing:

    <li><a href="default.aspx ?????>what is a database</a></li>
    <li><a href="default.aspx ?????>what is a query</a></li>

Where my question marks are, there should be a connection to that particular piece of text.
In each article part there is an ID="text1" and the second part id="text2"

How shoudl i do that, Should i use a question mark.
Please give me some guidance how to structure the <li> statement or a pointer where I can read about it.

Filter web parts in new form page of a list

I've created 2 custom lists. The 2nd list has a lookup column from the 1st list. In the new form page for this 2nd list, I've added the 1st list as a web part. Now, I want to connect the 2 web parts, but it's not available. Basically, what I wanted is that when I select an item on the lookup column, the webpart containing 1st list would show that item on the same page.

I think I'll need to use Sharepoint Designer to implement something like this, but just wanted to check if anyone has done something like this using browser only.

refreshing (reloading) the self page when it opens the popup window

The connection type is not compatible with any other web parts on the page

Is there anyway to determine which interface a webpart uses for connection?

I have a custom web part, implementing the ICellConsumer interface, and I am trying to send values to the SPVisibilityFilter webpart, available here http://spvisibilitywebpart.codeplex.com, which seems to be implementing the ICellConsumer interface as well.

Yet, I still keep getting "the connection type '' is not compatible with any other web parts on the page", when trying to connect the web parts on the page. What am I missing?

How to change URL without reloading the page?

I am using jquery/ajax to grab data from a web service and display them in a div without reloading the page. The problem is that many users want to bookmark or send to someone else their selections to view the same page. At first I thought that changing the URL without changing the page, would be a security risk, however I noticed that Facebook does that in the photo gallery, so it can be done.

I found a method, by changing the window.location.hash, but this apends to the URL the new link after a # and does not change the URL itself. Beyond that, it does not cache the page.

Does anyone know how is this possible?

Filtering Page contents by User's City

I have set a profile column for WorkCity and would like to display news and weather specific to that user's home location no matter where he or she logs in.  I am doing this in SharePoint 2010 Standard and do not have Profile synchronization set up.  Is there any way to do this?

Sharepoint Server 2010 reloading web parts with a certain interval even when nobody use it

First of all sorry for my English, because i'm Russian..

I developing a Web Part for getting some Currencies Rates from Internet Source. XMLLoader class has one method Load() which loads Currency Rates data from External Source to static variable... I want this data would be downloaded at first load of SP page which consist that web part.  So I overrided OnLoad method to check if it is postback or not... (My ascx control consists UpdatePanel to recalculate currencies dependencies).

I'm using Fiddler to debug my http requests to detect when XMLLoader.Load() method works.. (Please see this image... Http Request for www.ecb.europa.eu)

 protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e)
 if (!Page.IsPostBack)
 XMLLoader loader = new XMLLoader();
 List_AllCurrencies = loader.Load();

 protected override void CreateChildControls()
 Control control = Page.LoadControl(_ascxPath);

Filtering Joined Data View Web Parts

Hi All

My requirements:
There is a list view of briefings on my homepage. End-users will need to open a briefing, take a quiz related to the briefing, and then upon passing the quiz, the briefing will be removed from the list view on the homepage.

Current structure:
Briefings are kept in a 'Briefings' list. Upon completing a quiz, an entry is generated in a 'QuizResults' list, with either a Pass or Fail Status. There could be hundreds of briefings, and there will be around 1,000 employees needing to take the quizzes.

I have linked the data sources 'Briefings' and 'QuizResults' and created a DVWP in SPD. First showing the title field from the Briefings list, and then adding the 'Status' and 'Created By' fields from the QuizResults list as a joined subview. the two lists are joined by a common field, 'UniqueRef' (a UniqueRef is common for all records in QuizResults relating to a record in Briefings with the same UniqueRef).

I am aiming to filter the joined list so that it only displays the title from the Briefings list, when the following occur:

Briefings\@UniqueRef = QuizResults\@UniqueRef  AND  QuizResults\@Author = [Current User]  AND  QuizResults\@Status != 'Pass'  [ie quiz has been taken and not passed]

Having trouble filtering data view inserted on DispForm.aspx by field value already on the page.

I have a DispForm.aspx page showing, of course, the names and values of fields of an item within a custom list that I have created.

I have inserted a dataview of another custom list onto this page.  Of course, when doing so, SharePoint Designer allows you to create a filter for this view.

I would like to filter this dataview using a value of a field of an item of the FIRST custom list (a value already shown on this page).

I mistakenly thought creating a data view parameter of "Form" source was the solution, but it is not.

Is there a way I can capture data appearing on the page (from the original DispForm) and use this value as a filter?

Any assistance would be most helpful.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Displaying SharePoint lists in Web Parts

When you create a built-in or custom list in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, Windows SharePoint Services creates a Web Part, a basic building block of a SharePoint site, to display that list. These Web Parts are called List View Web Parts. Windows SharePoint Services stores List View Web Parts in the site collection Web Part gallery. (The site collection Web Part gallery is the most central gallery of Web Parts for a work group. By default, the gallery name is the name of the site, such as "Our Team Site Web Part Gallery." )

Six easy ways to customize your site using Web Parts in SharePoint

Becoming familiar with Web Part customization techniques gives you a range of page-customization choices. For example, you can customize your site's home page so that it displays the specific information that your team needs. You can rearrange the list items on the home page, add lists, and even change the images on the home page. As you become more familiar with Web Part Page customization techniques, you can build interactive Web Part Pages that makes the data in lists more dynamic and useful, and you can add new Web Parts that provide access to external data and Web services.

SharePoint Tutorial - Web Parts

A page in SharePoint is comprised of web parts the exist within zones. Web parts are available for just about everything. For example in the page below there are four web part highlighted by different colors. The purple web part displays a short list of the new announcements stored in the annoucements library. The pink web part displays events from a calendar within the site. The green web part displays an image from a location the user specifies. The gray web part displays a list of links from the links list on the site.
