Knowledgebase template - How do you create links from "related articles"

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 10, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi I'm using the Knowledgebase Template. We are mainly creating Word Docs and loading them into the library. Tagging with the "Realated Articles" column. I am writing a intro page in SPD that has a choice list of the keywords, which then filters the docs based on choice. This works. What I can't get working is making the "related articles" column into a hyper link, like MS have done in default views - if I use the library in a web part from the browser it works fine, but not in SPD. Any ideas? Cheers Eserim

Create a Site template with subsites in Sharepoint Server 2010

Hi, I'm with my first SharePoint project, and we are using server 2010 as a Document Management system. The thing is our company has about 300 customers, and we have to create 300 site collections, 1 per customer.  For each site collection, I use the blank site template, and it's very simple page, as I just need a document library in the home page, and then I need to create a subsite called "cases" and the inside profiles, the users create a document library for each case. For subsite I mean, I create a new site and I choose the option to share the top menu, so basically the site has 2 tabs. So basically what I need is a template that has 2 tabs, Home and Cases. Home with a document library in home and Cases empty. Is there a simple way to achieve this? I guess maybe I have to edit some XML files to create a Site Template. If this is the case, can someone point me to the right documentation. Second, I need to create a Visual Basic project so that the final user has a form, and he just inputs the Customer Name and the code must automatically create a new site with the template I metioned before. I guess that once I have the template this won't be very hard to achieve, as I have seen this SPSite class. The question is, can I have the template with the 2 tabs, o maybe I have to use 2 templates, and write code to create the home site and the Cases Subsite.. Ple

Create site template and adding subsite using site template is broken in sharepoint 2010

I am trying to create a site template base on an existing site and try to use the new site template to generate other sub-sites.  It sounds simple and the code is not that difficult to follow; however, Microsoft has made it impossible to accomplish by having a bug in their template creation process.   //Generate web template from existing website using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost")) { SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb("/barrington/accounting"); web.SaveAsTemplate("NewDepartmentTemplate", "NewDepartmentTemplate", "NewDepartmentTemplate", true); }   //Generate sub site using the new template using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost")) { SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb("/barrington/accounting"); SPWebTemplate tp = null; foreach (SPWebTemplate wt in web.GetAvailableWebTemplates((uint)1033)) { if (wt.Title == "NewDepartmentTemplate") { tp = wt; break; } } if (tp != null) { SPWeb newWeb = web.Webs.Add("NewDepartment", "NewDepartment", "NewDepartment", (uint)1033, tp, false, false); } } Error: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was unhandled   Message=The content type name '$Resources:_FeatureId367b94a9-4a15-42ba-b4a2-32420363e018,DataSourceContentTypeName;' cannot contain: \  / : * ? Custom Email Alert template creating links to DispForm.aspx

I have a requirement to customise the alert template for a standard blog post list. To do this I: 1. Created a copy of alertstemplate.xml 2. Copied the genericList alert template node and customised 3. Registered the new template file against the site collection, iisreset and finally assigned the new Alert template to the list, when alerts are created the custom template is emailed. The problem now arises that the 'View <Post Title>' in the toolbar section now creates a hyperlink to http..../Lists/Posts/Dispform.aspx?ID=xx rather than post.aspx. I have checked using sharepoint designer that the list supporting files has the correct display item form of Lists/Posts/Post.aspx. Additionally if I reset the alert template for the list back to use the Generic list template the same problem still occurs so this leads me to believe it is not the customisations that are the problem. Code used to assign the alert template to the Posts list: var ats = new SPAlertTemplateCollection((SPWebService) site.WebApplication.Parent); var newTemplate = ats[alertName]; if (newTemplate == null) { // We did not find the specified Template. throw new Exception("Failed to find template SPAlertTemplateType.NewsPost in the template collection."); } list.AlertTemplate = newTemplate; list.Update(); Any assistance will be most welcome, thanks in advance. Create Collection Template Category/group

Is there a way in WSS 3.0 to create a custom group/category to hold custom templates?  I created a project template and would like to create a group for my company as opposed to having the template go into the "Custom" category.  I have searched google over an no posts are available on this topic and stsadm does not have a command for creating a group.

Create Custom Site Template & Deploy as Farm Solution

So I've seen a few posts and blogs about this, but nothing with the specific error I'm getting.  All I'm trying to do is create a custom site template from an existing site (now WSP), and make that custom template available in CA so I can create host-named site collections from that template in PowerShell.  Apparenly this was a lot easier in 2007, as you could just save your template as STP, and run some stsadm addsolution to get it in the farm.  With 2010, I've read there are 2 options:

  1. Install-SPWebTemplate
  2. Deploy via Visual Studio 2010

I've tried running Install-SPWebTemplate (which only takes CAB files), and NOTHING I do works.  I've created a cab from the WSP with makecab, I've renamed the WSP to CAB, and all I get is "cannot find or parse web template file".  So on to VS2010.

Using this article as a guide (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff408263.aspx), I created a new 2010 Import existing solution project, left all items selected, and the import was successful.  I made a change or two to the ONET.xml to fix some things, and then I just try to deploy it to the farm.  Whether I set the URL to the root intranet site, or the CA URL, I get deployment conflict errors:

"The URL or

What's the "right" way to create a site template and inherit a custom master page?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 2007 whatever masterpage you had selected was saved in the site template and was re-created when a new site was created from said template.

It occurs to me that it's different in 2010.

Custom master pages from a site template aren't inherited and they don't keep the specified value when you ask it to before creating the template itself.

So, what's the "correct" way?  What's the difference in making a site template using a blank site or publishing site?

Here I thought I'd be able to make a site template and move on to my next project.

Thanks in advance!

-Mike

How to Create a Custom Item Template and Project Template

When you're working on a web project, there are times you wish you could have captured all of the stuff you're working on often and then re-use it later on, similar to code snippet. For example, if you work with JaveScript, HTML5 a lot, you would want to be able to create a new web project that already has a predefined set of jQuery library, or add a new page that already has references to the new HTML5 doctype and the jQuery libary, so you don't have to constantly modify the page to add those in. You can achieve this by creating your own Item Template and Project Template. Recently, Rey Bango has posted a nice blog about this topic at How to Create HTML5 Website and Page Templates for Visual Studio 2010 . Joe Cartano also had a blog about it...(read more)

Sharepoint 2010 Cannot create new List using saved List template

In Sharepoint Server 2010 Cannot create new List using saved List template. I have saved multiple list templates in the template gallery, but when I click on site actions -> More options. I do not see the list templates that are in the template gallery.

Using KnowledgeBase template in 2010

I'm trying to create a site collection using the Knowledge Base template in SP 2010.

I deployed ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp and KnowledgeBase.wsp
(downloaded from this site, which contains wsp's for MOSS 2007:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5807b5ef-57a1-47cb-8666-78c1363f127d&DisplayLang=en )

The deployment went well, but when I created a site collection using the Knowledge Base template I got this error:

The field with Id {46b00cd2-bc51-45d8-87e1-68f1be35275f} defined in feature {75a0fea7-cd50-401e-af0e-782f3662a299} was found in the current site collection or in a subsite.

Correlation ID: c027a17f-83e1-4998-9f2f-932f36b30081

My questions:
1. Are MOSS 2007 wsp's can be used with SP 2010?
2. If not, does MS provide 2010 compatible wsp's?
3. Has anyone succeeded to create a knowledge base site?

Note: I'm using build 14.0.4747.1000. I tried it on several servers, with the same result.

Thanks in advance
Sruli

Sharepoint 2010, knowledgebase template

Hi,
despite the fact that sharepoint 2010 has not been release yet I have a some questions concering this new plattform  which could not be answered by google (so far) :>

I need a knowledge base system for sharepoint 2010 (should be freeware).

1) does anybody know a good template?

2) for Sharepoint 2007 microsoft developed the so called "fabulous 40 templates" (including a knowledge base template) - is it possible to migrate this templates to Sharepoint 2010 (i know that they are not compatible but maybe there is a workaround - mybe by using Visual studio?)

Thanks for responses!

Can't display related articles with links

I am using the Data View web part in MOSS 2007 SharePoint Designer. I need to display "related articles" from a knowledge base article with links to them. Presently I only see "Deployment Procedures;Installation Procedures" which are the two document names related to a KB article.

I need the names displayed on separate lines with hyperlinks to the actual documents. So far no menu selection I make and no xsl modifications are working properly.

This is the code as it looks right now:

<xsl:value-of select="@KBRelatedArticles" disable-output-escaping="yes" />

I've been tinkering with various mods of similar tasks like this I've found online but none work so far.

Your help is greatly appreciated.
