solution explorer not showing solution name - VS 2008

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 10, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Dear All, I am  stumped by a serious issue in Vs 2008. I created a Blank solution called HelloWorld.Then I added a new Class Library project by the name of HelloWorldService.After creation of the Class Library project the Solution name disappeared from Solution Explorer.  As a result of which I can now only add new items into the Class Library project but cannot add new item to the solution. This appears to be a pretty old problem as I found it in another link on the internet. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2580046/vs-2008-solution-explorer-not-showing-solution It seems to be a bug.Has MS released a patch or a fix for this. If so pls post the links. Thanks for your efforts

SQL Server 2008 Express - No Solution Explorer

I installed Sql Server 2008 Express and there is not a Solution Explorer. I go to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio -> FIle -> New and my only options are (1) Query with Current Connection (2) Database Engine Query (3) SQL Server Compact Query (4) Policy. I have tried CTL-ALT-L. VIEW does not have a Solution Explorer. And when I got to TOOLS -> Customize, there is no Solution Explorer.

What do I have to install to get Solution Explorer? Would I have to uninstall my current SQL Server or will it just overlay or co-exist?

Two versions of company_name.master showing up in solution explorer

If I look at the solution explorer I have two files named company_name.master. One is is a folder named GLOBAL and the other is in a folder named company_MasterPage. They are not the same file as they are in different locations but I wanted to know if I could exclude one or the other from the solution and why it may have happened that there are two.

Will the old Excel 2007 Datamining Solution Work With SQL 2008 Express?

Or does it need the full version?  Is there a new version of the Datamining add-in for 2008 Thanks Peter

Need to Automate in SSIS Cube Drop and Recreate of Dimensions: Had to do on the Solution Explorer Ma

Hi SSAS Engineers: This question is in the context of a complete refresh of the SSAS cube. I'm OK on the SSIS approach thanks to TMcD and past successes (also thanks to him). The question is why did I have to manually drop/delete the dimensions in BIDS SSAS, then readd them with the cube wizard to pull in the dimensions with the same names, but new surrogate key relationships and more surrogate keys in total? We need to Automate in SSIS Cube Drop and Recreate of Dimensions. I originally had to perform this function on the Solution Explorer Manually in SSAS UDM, since the names are the same, but the structures and the data are changing for the dimensions on the refresh (and the fact table is subsequently increasing). Herein lies the problem. We had a keynotfound error in the cube processing, since the old keys were being kept. I had run Full processing on the dimensions, but since the dimensions have the same name (no drop old names and add new names), the old surrogate keys remained. The fact table had the old row count as well, since the surrogate key pipeline to look up the surrogate keys for the new dimensions only had the old dimensions, even though I truncated the fact table. Yes--I had already rebuilt the dimensions in SQL Server and the row counts were the new refresh row counts. The dimension counts were right according to refresh numbers after

Site template uploaded to Solution Gallery, activated, not showing in Template Selection

I accidentally created a site on a path where I needed to create a site collection. After deleting the site and creating the site collection in its place, I arrived at the Template Selection page. I went to Solution Gallery, uploaded my solution (a package made by the consultants who built our SharePoint site) and activated it. When I activated it I got an error message, but the solution shows in the Gallery as active. I went back to Template Selection to select a template from the solution, but none are showing--just the standard templates. How do I fix this?

SQL 2008 SP1 - Log shipping solution with Logshipping monitor on SQL Server Express Edition SP1 (bad

Hello All !

I'm installing a log shipping solution with SQL Server 2008 Standard SP1 (on x64 US). I use a monitor logshipping with SQL Server Express Edition x64 SP1 US. When I try to connect it, I have this message when i tried to use w.x.y.z\SQLEXPRESS  as a monitor server:

'w.x.y.z\SQLEXPRESS' is not a valid monitor server instance.  A monitor server instance must be SQL Server Standard Edition, SQL Server Workgroup Edition, or SQL Server Enterprise Edition.'

In SQL 2005, it is possible to do that with SQL Express. And with 2008 R2, is it possible too or it is the same problem ?

Thanks for advance for your ideas / help - Regards - Have a nice day ! RHUM2

Error messages when deploying SSAS 2008 solution

I'm working on an AS 2008 project using VS2008. The relational database for the data source is SQL Sever 2008 R2 CTP (n.b correction from original post), and so is the target server I am trying to deploy to. When I try to deploy the solution the following errors are returned:

Error 5 Internal error: Invalid enumeration value. Please call customer support! is not a valid value for this element.  0 0

Error 6 An error occurred while parsing the 'StorageMode' element at line 1, column 11865 ('http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine' namespace) under Load/ObjectDefinition/Dimension/StorageMode.  0 0

Error 7 Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when instantiating a metadata object from the file, '\\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Data\AMS Analysis Services 2008.0.db\Dim Date.19.dim.xml'.  0 0

I'm afraid I'm a bit stumped by these. Is it something to do with the fact that the target Analysis Services server is running R2? If so what can I do to deploy to that box?

Is SSRS 2008 capable enough to be a solution for generating really huge reports?

Hi All,

I have been doing performance analysis for SSRS 2008 for some really huge reports that return between 1 to 5 million records (with single user) and reports that return 100K to 200K records with multiple users. I have observed lot of issues which made me to think that may be SSRS 2008 is not good enough for such a huge reports even less good if there is a multiple users scenario for those big reports(though I wanted to use it). Please go through my points and share your views on this.

Before putting up the points I would like to mention my configuration, Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 SP2 64 bit (totally dedicated to SSRS reports as the data source for these reports was SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition), Microsoft Reporting Services 2008 R2 64 bit, 8 CPU, 8 GB RAM and the reports are simple tabular reports which are fetching the data from a single table (no joins)

Dynamically created directories not displaying in solution explorer

I have noticed today that when you create a directory in code in a web application the resulting folder structure is not created in the solution explorer (It is fine on disk and app can still access all the files)

I am not sure if there is a setting that I am missing or is this a bug?

Steps to reproduce

Create a new C# web application in VS 2010.

Create a new web page (Default.aspx) and add a file upload control and a button.

on the click event on the button add the following code

String ImageUrlPath = "/Media/Photo/";
Directory.CreateDirectory(Request.PhysicalApplicationPath + ImageUrlPath);
string FileName = FileUpload1.FileName.ToString().Replace(" ", "");
FileUpload1.SaveAs(Request.PhysicalApplicationPath + ImageUrlPath + FileName);

When the form posts back refresh the solution explorer and the new directory does not appear.

Check your file system and the file will be there.

Not a massive issue but frustrating. Any guidance would be appreciated

Solution Explorer in SQL Server Management Studio

Am I just out of my mind or does the solution explorer only list files in the order they were created? Is there any way to sort the list?  I'm trying to manage a database as a "solution".  It has over a hundred or so procs. If I can't alphabetize the list it is of no use to me since it's impossible to find a specific proc when they are not sorting in any logical way.  (Please keep in mind there are multiple developers working on this "solution" so the list if effected by all of them.)

I am trying to maintain some version control over the procs using VSS but it looks like I have to use a "solution" and "projects" to do that.

What kind of "solution" is this?

Is there any other way to do this?

[SQL 2008 - SP1] - DRP Log shipping solution and error message

Hello All !

I have a DRP solution with logshipping (1 site in Europe and 1 site in Asia). The DRP are tested: ok.

3 servers: 1 primary, 1 standby, 1 monitor (sql 2008 edt enterprise US SP1 x64) on Windows 2008 SP2 US x64 with the last updates.

But , on my logs-hipping monitor, I always have this message (I have it when log-shipping installation was configured):

Executed as user: PROD\svc_sqla_bb. The log shipping secondary database Server001.DBAS has restore threshold of 45 minutes and is out of sync. No restore was performed for 96 minutes. Restored latency is 0 minutes. Check agent log and logshipping monitor information. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 14421).  The step failed."

- All the servers have the same time

- All the servers have been updated with the last updates (windows, sql)

- Network latence is correct

- Log shipping is functional: backup, restore: ok

I have searched on the web for this message, but I don't find a good solution for this issue .

Any ideas ?

"Close Solution" not showing on SSMS File menu

I upgraded to SQL Server 2008 R2 on 4 different PCs.  On only one of them, when I open SSMS and click File on the menu, the option to "Close" is available, but the option to "Close Solution" is not.  Further, if I right click on the menu bar and click Customize, under the Commands tab, I click on File under Categories, and again "Close" is available, but "Close Solution" is not.  "Close Solution" is available on the other 3 PCs that I upgraded to R2 on.  I tried using the installation disk and clicked on Repar, but it did not fix the problem.  How can I get "Close Solution" to appear on the File menu?

SharePoint Solution Generator 2008 - does it only work on local WSS instance?

I am using the version of Solution Generator installed with VSeWSS 1.2. I have VSTS2008 and WSS3 installed on a Win2k3 box, which we use for development. The solution generator works perfectly on the local instance of WSS, but if I try and make a solution a any sites hosted on a remote box, I get the 'No SharePoint site exists at the specified location' error message. Does the solution generator only work on local sites?

The account I am using is a domain admin and a farm / site collection administrator and SQL sysadmin on both boxes hosting SharePoint. I'm trying to generate solutions from a live site to put into source control. I don't really want to install visual studio on the live server as I am only intending to use it there for this one-time generation job.

Solution Explorer Bug!

Hi: I have come accross an interesting bug which cost me alot of time. These are the steps I went through to cause and finaly correct the problem. Basically I was modifing an example so I could  put the filter.xaml  and koala.jpg files into a Resources folder using Solution Explorer and then I modified the xaml as below. The full code is attached also.

1) Create subfolder Resorces
2) Move Filter.xaml to Resources
3) Change this line of xaml to <ResourceDictionary x:Key="myFilter" Source="Resources/Filter.xaml">
4) Move image Koala.jpg to Resources folder.
5) Check Filter.xaml for this line of code <ImageDrawing ImageSource="koala.jpg" Rect="0,0,50,50"/>
6) When we compile we get this error: {"Cannot locate resource 'filter.xaml'."}
7) Now if we retrace the steps and move these files back out of Resources and change the above code back to the original
<ResourceDictionary x:Key="myFilter" Source="Filter.xaml">
<ImageDrawing ImageSource="Koala.jpg" Rect="0,0,50,50"/>
We still get the same error {"Cannot locate resource 'filter.xaml'."}
8) The only way to correct the error is to Rename the file filter.xaml in the solution explorer. Then the error goes away.

This seems like a real
