Report Server project in VS2008 and VS2010

Hi All,

I cannot open my VS2008 Report Server project after installing VS2010 and Framework 4.0 on my machine. How to run those reports now? I still have VS 2008 installed.. Please suggest..

Any issues or concerns in converting VS2008 project to VS2010

I have been working on this project for a few months in VS2008.. now that we are getting closer to the end, one of the other programmers has been working and doing his in VS2010, so when i try to open his projects in VS2008 it just shows up as XML.. so i have to open in VS2010.. thats fine..

But if i try to open my project in 2010, it prompts to use the conversion wizard..

Should i be concerned or are there any issues with doing the conversion? Being the end of the project, i dont want to cause issues at this point.. So would like to know if converting the project file at this stage in our project a good idea? Will there be any issues using his code with mine since they were developed in 2 different versions..

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?

web deployment project (WS_deploy) on VS2008

I am building a asp.net webservice in VS2008 and the web service compiles and debug fine. The project should be using : Net 3,5

 I have

  1. VS2005 and VS208 installed
  2. .Net 1.1 - 3.5
  3. WebDeploymentSetup for VS2008 (and most likely a version for VS2005 as well)

But when I add a web deployment project the fun stops. The .WS_deploy project will not compile and I cannot find any precompiled output.

vs2010 web deployment project restarts w3svc even when restartwwwservice = false

We've updated some of our projects from VS2008 to VS2010.  When these projects are deployed the w3svc is restarted on the target machine, even when restartwwwservice = false in the vdproj file.

This was a problem in 2008 until SP1 (http://forums.asp.net/p/1300097/2534736.aspx).  Does this same problem exist in VS2010?

This is a major problem for us -  we need to be able to deploy projects without restarting IIS.

I've tried creating a new web deployment package and setting the restartWWWService field to false, but this still does a restart when it's installed.

Has anyone come across this problem in VS2010?

Installed Visual Studio 2005 on new laptop - can't open C# web services project solution.

Installed Visual Studio 2005 on new laptop - can't open C# web services project solution - get the 'project not supported by this installation' error. Tried re-installing to no avail. Have run various flavors of devenv as recommended in various posts. Still the same message. I can open the solution fine on my old laptop.    Update: We re-installed service pack 1 for VS and the problem was resolved.

VS2010: Upgrading projects from VS2008

I just upgraded my VS2008 solution to VS2010 and have run into a problem. I have a .NET C# application that references a managed C++ DLL, which in turn links to a native static library. All this works just fine. However, whenever I attempt to run the C# application, Visual Studio claims that the native static library is out of date and must be recompiled. It does that even after I've just compiled the native library. When allowing VS2010 to build the native project, the only thing it does is this: 1>  LibraryName.vcxproj -> C:\Bleh\Blah\LibraryName.lib Is there a way I can figure out what's causing VS2010 to think the project is out of date?

Best Practices for extending an Open Source project

I am beginning an implementation and customization of an open source e-commerce application (nopCommerce).  I'm looking for any for any suggestions and / or recommendations to annotate or document any source code changes I would make in order to allow for the easiest integration of new versions of the application that are released. I do have TFS 2010 implemented but I do not have much experience with the product.  I tried to merge the source of a new release but ran into some difficulty, especially when files were deleted from the project. For much of the project I can copy existing user controls and create custom versions for my use, but there will be some modification of the actual source code required. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Can I deploy a custom site page from the VS2010 SharePoint project?

Hi We're setting up some demos of our sharepoint plugins and want to easily deploy these into sharepoint so that all members of the company can easily get the demos running on their own machines. This is fine for layouts, web parts and so on - but the demo also has a customised sharepoint home page (which I edited in SP Designer) - how do I make this edited home page part of the VS2010 project so that it can be deployed easily to any site collection?   Thanks

Keep a new page open for editing when created

Hi, i built a pages library and set some custom content types and page layout in it. When create a new page i want to set that the new page will be still open for edit the content and properties (the default behavior is that after creation and give the page a name - it is closed and in order to edit i have to find the new name in the pages library and just then open and edit page, which is too complex for the users

I cannot open application page which i created with Intranet and Internet.

for example, if i create an application portal : test:1000, then it is okay. but when i try to create an application portal: www.e.gov.au with ip address  i have added  www.e.gov.au into host files, but cannot open that page, system just said page not found. i just failed and failed. but when i checked in central admin, it is just fine....   can anybody tell me how to resolve it?   regards

created asp mvc project with framework 4.0 changed to 3.5 and now get errors

I created a small mvc site using framwork 4.0.  I found my hosting company uses 3.5.  I changed my project and compiled and there were no errors.  Now when I run, I get this error on all pages:How can I get it to work in .net 3.5? Compilation ErrorDescription: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Opening vs2008 solution file in vs2010 - Framework targeting issue

Hey guys,

I am opening a vs2008 .sln file inside vs2010 - the conversion wizard shows up, and it goes through with no errors other than a pop up warning me that this solution needs .Net Framework 3.5 and that it is "not installed on this machine" - I chose to target it to .Net Framework 4.0 and to try to switch it later as an option.

I then bring up Properties - >Application -> Target Framework and in the dropdown, .Net Framework 3.5 is not listed - which is strange since in "Add or Remove Programs" I can see .Net Framework 3.5 is installed on my machine.

How can I get Framework 3.5 to show up in the dropdown so I can target this project to that framework?

Can't say I've ever done this, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.

Update: I tried Method #1 here (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robvi/archive/2004/02/17/75272.aspx) and I cannot see v3.5 - so where did it go? I'm confused why it is not in my registry but shows up in "Add or Remove Programs" list...
