Display each new line of a sharepoint mutliline text field as choice in drop down box.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 10, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
The question pretty much says it all. I have a lot of data I need to represent, and this would be the best way to do it. I have a multiline text field in sharepoint, where each line has a choice that should be a seperate choice in a text box. How do I do this? I have the data connection set up, and I would be fine with adding some sort of tag after each line, if that would make it so infopath can somehow parse out those tags, and interpret each "chunk" as a choice. Thanks in advance for your help.

FormView Text Field Being Set by A Drop Down List

Hello, I have a FormView which is used to insert a record into a database.  Outside of this formview i have a drop down list, I want to grab the value from that drop down list and set one of the text fields within the formview to it's currently selected value.  I've tried the following code, but the dynamic categorytextbox line is what seems to not be working.

                    <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCategory" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSourceCategory" DataTextField="CategoryName"
DataValueField="CategoryID" Width="200px">

Text='<%# Bind("CategoryID") %>' Visible="False" />

dynamic varCategory = ddlCategory.SelectedValue;
dynamic categoryTextBox = FormView1.FindControl("CategoryIDText

Mission Impossible? Use Javascript to Disable a Multi-Line Rich Text Field

Hey Community,

Here's a tough one that I have struggled with and so far have not been able to find an answer for - how do you use Javascript to disable a multi-line rich text field.  I have customized a SP Edit form by adding a CEWP.  In the CEWP I have added the Javascript below (only a partial code sample provided) to disable several fields in the form.  The code works fine for single line text fields but it does not work for multi-line rich text fields.  Any suggestions?

<script language="javascript">
//This runs the function when the form first loads

//This locks the fields the users should not modify
function lockFields()
  var theInputTFTitle = getTagFromIdentifierAndTitle("Input","TextField","Title");
  theInputTFTitle.readOnly = true;
  theInputTFTitle.style.color = 'gray';
  //alert(" Value: " + theInputTFTitle.value);//for testing

   var theInputDDLReplyStatus = getTagFromIdentifierAndTitle("select","DropDownChoice","Reply Status");
  theInputDDLReplyStatus.disabled = true;
  //alert(" Value: " + theInputDDLReplyStatus.value);//for testing

How to use display Text in Hyperlink For SharePoint 2010 Designer Workflow

In SharePoint 2007 Designer, I have used the Hyperlink column to store the link "http://www.sharepoint.com/Default.aspx, Details". The details text will be shown in the Hyperlink column. Everything works fine in sharepoint 2007 Designer workflow.

In SharePoint Designer 2010 Workflow, I used the same method but the hyperlink column is displaying the full text "http://www.sharepoint.com/Default.aspx, Details" instead of only Details

How to read a column of a sharepoint list to a text string field of infopath form?

My infopath form used to read these email addresses from a web service and web.config file. Now i would like to get these user email addresses from a contact list in a sharepoint server. I am trying to do this without writing any codes. Here is what i have done so far: 1. Adding a new "data connection to receive data from SharePoint library or List" where i selected Email Address column of the contact list. 2. I added a new Text Field and define a new rule with "Query using a data connection" defined above. When i try to access the newly created Text field above it always return empty as if the Query attached to it did not executed at all. What did i do wrong? Is there a better way? Thank you in advance for your help.

How do I stop line feeds in a Hierarchy field from a SharePoint list to prevent wrapping

I'm developing a Reporting Services 2005 report that includes a Hierarchy field from a SharePoint 2007 list.  The Data Source for the report is an XML type. I would like to display the Hierarchy field on 1 line.  However, it is displaying in 2 or more lines. The field also wraps when rendering to Acrobat (PDF) file.  How can I get rid of the embedded line feed (I believe it's "&#xA").  I've tried using the Replace function in an expression, other functions and changed the properties, e.g., the CanGrow property.  Nothing seems to work. Does anybody have any suggestions?  Thanks.

Rules on Drop Down List to populate another text field

I have a last name field in infopath 2007 web form with a drop down on sharepoint list. When they select a certain last name, I want it to populate the primary dept field on form. I set up a rule on the last name to set the primary dept field = to the primary dept field on datasource when the last name field is not blank. What I am getting is the primary dept value for the first record in the datasource. I am trying to understand what record I have. Do I need to do another query back to the datasource with the last name field to have the correct entries available to populate the dept field with? Please give me some clue. I am a programmer but not grasping the interplay between the datasource and the form and noit finding what I need in numerous google searches.

Drop-Down List Filled with Checkboxed 'Choice' Field?

SP Lists allow a 'choice' field.  You can opt to make the Choices a manually typed in list where the user simply 'checks' off one or more options.

Within InfoPath, I want to be able to show ALL of the checked-off choices in a drop-down menu.  Can't do it! :(

Any suggestions?

Field shows as when using SSIS and sharepoint adapter

Hello, I am setting up an SSIS usingthe Sharepoint Source adapter. I am replacing and existing process that imports data from Sharepoint into Excel directly, but this is manual.  The sharepoint source adapter seems to truncate column names or provides different column names then what is visible on the user Sharepoin site - they all do not match my manual import into Excel and there are additional fields.  I'd assume that what it is returning is the actual Sharepoint Database column name.  Anyway, I need to map my fields to my existing process in SQL.  The only way I know how to do this and identify what columns are being returned, I am attempting to import the data into Excel using SSIS through the Excel Destination.  I'm having an issue with a few fileds....I have a field/column called QAReviews which is importing into Excel with all the fields for each record showing <Lon Text> instead of the value the Sharepoint site actually contains.  In my manual Excel import process, this field shows the correct data.  By the way, on sharepoint this is a choice field. Can someone tell me why I'm getting something different through SSIS then what I get from using the manual import in Excel.  I also exported the data from Sharepoint to Access and again I get the correct data. Please advise.

Multi-Line, Rich Text Field anomaly

When a user clicks on Edit Item for a previously populated and saved List item in SharePoint Services 3.0, the "edit item page" appears but the rich-text multi-line field is blank ... until it is right clicked on in the white space of the multi-line field, then the content that had been previously saved appears.

Should the user fail to right-click in the white space of the multi-line field before saving the List item again, the content previously saved will be saved over as blank. Only recoverable by version control (if enabled for that List).Not tested on

Office XP or Internet Explorer v6.

Office Pro 2007
Internet Explorer v8
Windows XP SP3
SharePoint Services 3.0 SP2 CUAug2010

Column Setting:
Append Changes to Existing Text = NO (default)
Specify the type of text to allow = Rich Text

I was able to reproduce the issue on different desktops with different List items on different Sites for both MOSS 2007 and WSS 3.0.  Clearing the browser cache doesnt resolve it.  I've proven it to

C#: How to Add Item to SharePoint list using web services? One of the field is a choice field.

I have a code that looks something like this:

batch.SetAttribute("OnError", "Continue");

the field name "Status" is a choice field. When i execute this code, my program doesn't add anything to my sharePoint List. However when I remove the

"<Field Name='Status'>Something Else</Field>

which means i'm left with this code:

Change data type of library field from Single Line Text to currency

I have an InfoPath 2010 form that has a field listing the amount of currency on a meter. It is a Decimal form in Infopath but publishes to SharePoint as a Single Line of Text.  It will not let me modify the column in SharePoint and it will not let me select the allow edit from the Publishing Wizard.  I need the column as a currency so my Excel Queries work.

ActiveX and Visual Basic: Enhance the Display of Long Text Strings in a Combobox or Listbox

The combobox and listbox controls in Visual Basic have no built-in support for displaying text strings that are too long to fit in the visible area of either control. This article describes several techniques to improve the readability of long strings in each control. The first technique uses tooltips to display a combobox or listbox item. The other techniques, which use various Windows APIs, include adding a horizontal scrollbar for a listbox and determining the necessary width of the longest string given the font attributes of the text. The required steps are described for both comboboxes and listboxes.
