When trying to view properties of user information list in SPD 2010, I get the following error "SharePoint designer cannot display the content of this view (...)" I am logged in as administrator for both farm and site. I can view content of the list in a browser, but I cannot access the list as a lookup column. It works with WSS 3/SPD 2007 on another server.

Update all Properties in the User Information List after restoring a site collection to a new domain

hi All

I moved a site collection (content db) from one domain to another. After the site collection was restored i ran the stsadm -o migrateuser -oldlogin -newlogin. The result was that the login id of the user in the source domain was replaced with the login in the destination domain.

However the rest of the properties in the User Information List (paricularly interested in the Email) was not updated.

How can i get all the properties in the User Information List with values in the new domain

Thanks in Advance

User Manual for Sharepoint Foundation 2010

Is there an user manual for Sharepoint Foundation 2010?  We downloaded this product in order to create an intranet for our firm, but the software is NOT intuitive and does not provide clear click-by-click instructions on how to do this.  We need an instruction manual asap, that includes a sub-section on how to easily design and create an intranet.  Thank you.

SharePoint 2010 email enabled list with workflow has incorrect User ID when items are emailed to the

I have set up an approval workflow for a document library that has email enabled. Emails come into the document library fine, however, if an item is emailed to the library the workflow kicks off with the initiator as "System Account" rather than the person who submitted the email. This makes the error of "The e-mail message cannot be sent. Make sure the e-mail has a valid recipient." come up. If someone submits a document directly to the library (by logging into sharepoint and submitting) everything works fine. The person submitting by email is a valid sharepoint user and the profile shows the correct email address. The Created by and Modified by fields show the correct person (rather than System Account), it's only the workflow User ID that shows incorrectly if document is emailed to library. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Problem with List Columns in Foundation 2010 when Importing from Excel

This is a pretty detailed issue. I will give you all the steps I am doing and hopefully there is a solution.

I recently updated our intranet site from WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation. In WSS 3.0 I added a few of the application templates to use, including Asset Tracking. When I moved to Foundation I decided not to use those (and not sure if I can anyway) and exported the Asset Tracking data to Excel, then imported it to Sharepoint Foundation as a list.

Here is the issue I am having: when I imported from Excel all but one of the columns was created as "multiple lines of text". This means I cannot sort by these columns. I thought I could create similar columns as single lines of text, export back to Excel, copy the data, and import back. This changes the columns again to multiple lines. I even tried just typing in the data as a test and same problem. As long as there is no data, the columns will remain as single line of text; but as soon as I put data in I get this issue.

I can cofirm that these columns do not have more text than should be available in a single line. Any ideas of what I can do to make this work? I am at my wits end on this.

Thanks for any and all help.

search current logged in user's information in sharepoin list

hi guys,

in order to prepopulate some user information, i used query to search the sharepoint list. my question is how to search loggin user's info in the list.

i used following testing query function. it works fine. however, it can only search specific text, cannot be changed according different user.

SPList IsExist;
                    IsExist = SPContext.Current.Web.Lists["somelist"];
                    SPQuery query = new SPQuery();
                    query.Query = @"
                                    <FieldRef Name='First_x0020_Name'/>
                                    <Value Type='Text'>XXX</Value>
                                    <FieldRef Name='Last_x0020_Name'/>
                                    <Value Type='Text'>XXX</Value>
                    SPListItemCollection found = IsExist.GetItems(query);

Need Clarifications on SharePoint 2010 User Profile properties and Sync database security

Need few clarifications on SharePoint 2010 user profile sync. I’ve answered some of them but need confirmation/clarity on this front.

  1. Is there option to disable ‘email address’ import from AD?
    Yes. Can disable that property mapping.
  2. Possible to send mails (user alerts) from SharePoint without the user profile property ‘email address’ mapped?
    Yes. User alert mails from SharePoint will work without ‘email address’ mapped in user profile DB.
  3. In case email address too is imported into SharePoint, can we bulk export them from SharePoint? If Yes, how to security harden that database?
    Not Sure. I believe Farm admin account/sync account has access to do this profile DB.

 Thanks in advance for your advice.<

SharePoint User tracking and PeoplePicker binding to SharePoint 2010 List

First, apologies as I'm not sure if this is best forum for these questions. I'm pretty new to both SharePoint and Infopath, but am now having to learn both ASAP.
The enviroment is Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2, SharePoint 2010 Foundation, SharePoint Designer 2010, InfoPath 2010 (but targeting InfoPath 2007 client as this is what is rolled out in the company) and VS 2010.

My first question has to do with how the PeoplePicker control interacts with a User field (Person or Group column) in a SharePoint 2010 list; I don't quite get how to bind the control to the field (which I move into MainDataSource after retrieving the list item in XML via OWSSVR web service). If I create the 2 groups and 3 fields manually (or programtically) in the MainDataSource, how do I populate them from the XML data and which are the bits that need to be written back when I update?

Next question: what is the easiest way to lookup extended information about a named user, e.g., to make sure that the person being selected for a field is a member of group ZYXXY. Remember I'm using InfoPath 2007 client.

My last question is a bit more general with respect to how/where SharePoint caches User information. The company keeps AD updated for current employees and other users, but obviously there is turnover and policy is to remove them. What happens to list ite

WSS vs MOSS User Information List

I have a custom list with one of the columns being a lookup to a user. Now I have been using the list names "User Information List" to gather information about this user in WSS. However when I moved my code to a MOSS 07 server, I noticed that this list does not exist. What alternate list could I use to query information about the user. Below is some sample code that works on WSS.

Code Snippet

SPList listu = webSite.Lists["User Information List"];
SPListItem userItem = listu.Items[0];
string userEmail = (string)userItem["EMail"];

Difference between UserProfile & User Information List Property Values?

If I checks the FirstName & LastName Property values in UserProfile it has someValue however the same properties does not have anyValue in User Information List, what would the reason behind this?

Even I could see comma (",") separated value for some Field in UIL however the same value is in UserProfile without comma (",") ....

ProfileSync and/or QuickSync will update the UIL with same Information avail in UserProfile, isn't it? In that case both should have the same value, right?

SharePoint Foundation 2010 - How to ensure uniqueness of SharePoint user identity when using multipl

Hi everyone,

here is my situation:

  • I have a SharePoint Foundation 2010 web application extended to 2 IIS sites.
  • Web application has been set up (on creation) to use claims based authentication (because we needed to use FBA).
  • First IIS site is set up to use Windows Integrated Authentication (Kerberos).
  • Second IIS site is set up to use Forms Based Authentication (with LDAP connection to AD).
  • Both sites can be normally accessed and sucessfully authenticate users.

My problem is that two separate SharePoint logins must be created for each AD user who needs to access the web application using both authentication mechanisms. Those two logins have the following username structure:

  • i:0#.w|mydomain\username
  • i:0#.f|myldapmembershipprovider|username

The unfortunate consequence is that any items assigned in SharePoint lists and libraries that were <created under/assigned to/modified by/checked out> by user's windows login aren't <visible/available/modifyable> under users FBA login and vice versa.

I'd like to have a single SharePoint user account regardless of the authentication mechanism used to access the web application.

Is this possible and is there a standard mechanism in SharePoint/IIS

User Information List and Searching

On the Userdisp.aspx I have some code to redirect to a custom profile page. My issues is that when searching for a user that exists in the User Information List the search does not pick up that user.

I have checked that the list is searchable and the required permissions are in place.

So the question is does Wss3 search actually search that list? If so then what else could be stopping it picking up those users.

SharePoint 2010 - Column Validation (List Level) User Message Missing

I first saw this issue being discussed in January 2010 here, but there has not been any response in some time.

What basically happens is when you set column validation for the list level (not per column) the message that alerts the user that the column does not meet the validation requirements is completely missing.   Both the default message or a custom message do not show up.

Does anyone know if there is a hotfix for this issue yet?  I would expect more than a year later there would be one, but if so I can't seem to find it.  I would really like to correct this issue as column validation is a nice enhancement over SharePoint 2007.  Thanks in advance for any help.

How to get more information about the exceptions that can happen in SharePoint 2010 projects?

In case there is an exception anywhere in the SharePoint 2010 project (most common place an exception would happen is during deployment of your SharePoint project, custom deployment configuration or custom deployment steps), there's a registry key EnableDiagnostics available for you to use.
