Media Web Part and "Media failed to load" (linking to shared drive)

I am looking at ways of embedding videos into the SharePoint site so our users (in multiple countries) can watch them without bloating our database or getting a massive hit on performance.

I have seen sites and books suggesting that SharePoint isn’t always the best place to store large media files, and that they should remain on a shared drive with a link to them from SharePoint. Our videos range from 1 MB - 400 MB.

With this in mind, I have copied a couple of videos to the shared drive and I’m trying to link to them  using the out-of-the-box Media Web Part (Change Media > From Address). I’m using the address file://K:/SharePoint/VideoName.mp4. One of these videos is a Microsoft video (55 MB) and the other is one of my own screen recordings (1.2 MB). I used

Media Web Part won't play

Hello, i've inserted a media web part into the detailed content portion of my page.  i've configured it to start automatically and provided the correct link.  When i access the page, the video doesn't start, in fact there is a blank space where the web part is.  However when i hover my mouse over the web part are, the web part suddenly appears and starts playing.  anybody have an idea what is wrong here and how to fix it?  Thank you in advance.

Gridview and delete option - Button click displays message

Hi, I have a gridview connected to a sql database that allows the user to delete the record. I used the ASP.net automatic "options" for this. However, I would like when the user deletes a record, a message (textbox) appears in the form to say the record has been deleted. Please can anyone provide some sample codes?   Thanks in advance. Nijojo.

Windows Media Services 2008 and the Media Web Part

I have Media Services 2008 installed and working (tested with Windows Media Player, works fine) and a SharePoint 2010 Enterprise installation. I want to use the Media web part to display content from Media Services 2008. Is this possible using an MMS:// style url? Or does the media web part only like http:// or "local" content ? Media Services 2008 is installed without http:// components at the moment, but I can't find any information about what the media web part supports so don't know if it will work with mms://

ws-addressing 'Action' required message part not signed exception

I have a WCF client calling a Java-based service. The service vendor is supporting WCF clients. The WCF client binding uses authenticationMode="MutualCertificate", messageVersion="Soap11WSAddressing10" and the message is signed and encrypted (SignBeforeEncrypt). WCF, in this case, is automatically signing all the ws-addressing ( <Action>, <MessageID> and <To> ) headers. The message gets to the service and comes back with what appears to be valid encrypted data in the response BUT the client is throwing a "The 'Action', 'http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing' required message part was not signed" exception (mscorlib). Questions: Is there a way to NOT sign the ws-addressing headers in the request message while still using both signing and encryption (X.509 certs)? If the client DOES sign the ws-addressing headers in the request, is there a way to configure WCF to accept UNsigned ws-addressing headers in the response? If the answer is NO on both questions, I guess I will have to ask the service vendor to sign the ws-addressing headers in the response. Thanks.

Media Web Part

Hi In Sharepoint 2010 i have inserted a Media Web Part and added a .MP4 video file. When you click play the video plays back correctly and works perfect. My question is before you click play you have the standard still image (a reel of film), can this be changed to say, the first frame of the video clip or another still image? Thanks For5six

Sharepoint 2007 publishing site home page displays unknown file type security message

I am using sharepoint 2007 sp2, it has been workig fine for the past 8 months but since one of the developers installed .net 4.0 framework, every time we create a new sharepoit publishng site or extend and existing application the home url displays an "Unknown File Type" security warning message and asks users to download the file.  If i manually tupe in the full url http://www.mysite.com/pages/default.aspx it is displayed correctly. I have uninstalled .net 4 from the server but i still have the same  error. I have tried to replicate this error on a development server but sharepoitn works fine on that even with .net 4.0 installed.

Has anyone had the same issue ? I would appreciate  any suggestios or help with troubleshootig this issue.

Login control displays error message even after successful login... How come?

I am using .net framework 2.0 witn C#. Am using the login and the CreateUserWizard and the situation is like this.

1) login.aspx page has the login control and i have a hyperlink on the same page saying 'sign up now' which when clicked redirects to the register.aspx page where i have place the createUserWizard control

2) As a new user i click on the 'sign up now' and register myself.

3) I come back to the login.aspx page and login with my new username & password.

It displays the following message 'Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again' although it is successful. How do i know this?? I placed the 'Login Name' control over the top of my page where its displaying the username with which i logged in.

i.e it displays the error msg and my user name ( which means my login was successful right?)

4) Apart from this when i logout and try to login again with the same username it displays the same error msg BUT this time it really does not login in. That username & password does not work anymore and i have to create a new one and its a cycle again from Step2.

Where am i going wrong?

Media Web Part UI

Anyone know how to remove the UI controls of a video in the Media Web Part?  The default displays the play/pause, stop, volume over the video for 5 seconds. I would like it to not display unless you mouse over the video. Basically be able to control it like you can an embedded windows media player object.

WPF: If Heineken did MVVM Frameworks Part 4

MVVM is to have an instance of a particular Model (say currentPerson) inside my ViewModel (say PeopleViewModel) which is exposed to the View (say PeopleView). The View binds and edits the Model directly.

This definitely flies in the face of what most people consider to be the holy grail of MVVM pattern, but it's a fairly new pattern, so people are still finding their way with it every day, and this works for me very well. The reason I do what I do, is for the following reasons:

1.I have always had the luxury of being able to write my own UI specific Model classes. I would even do this if I was using some other Model classes first, such as LINQ to SQL or LINQ to Entity Framework. As these classes don't have everything a proper WPF Model class needs in my humble opinion. Though, they are pretty good, as they are Partial classes and use INotifyPropertyChanged/DataContract etc etc
2.I am a pragmatist and I do not like writing code for the sake of writing code. I have seen some MVVM apps where the author has had a Model with 50 properties on it, that are simply repeated in the ViewModel abstraction, where the ViewModel added nothing. On that day I decided I would never do that unless I have to.
3.I honestly see no harm in writing directly to the Model from the View, JUST SO LONG AS if the Model is InValid its data NEVER makes its way to the database. I honestly see no pro

Building Layered Web Applications with Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 - Part 1

"Building Layered Web Applications" that shows you how to build N-Layer applications with Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0. These articles teach you how to design, build and use custom business objects in your web application. The target audience for this series are developers that are ready to make the switch from using SqlDataSource controls to ObjectDataSource controls with custom business objects. Experience with ASP.NET 2 and C# is necessary while some knowledge about object oriented design certainly helps. The design I am going to show you in these articles is a simplified version of a design you would use in a real world application. It doesn't feature all the necessary functionality your application needs, but instead focuses on the underlying concepts.

Hello World to C# Threading Part 1

In this post we will see how we can implement simple threading. Why do we need threading? When you want you application to do more then one thing at same time, then you need to implement threading. One usual and common scenario would be when your application needs to get data from some other resource like web services and you don't want you application GUI to be freeze during this time. In that sort of case you will run the code to access web services in separate thread so your application GUI won't freeze. The System.Threading namespace .NET provide interfaces to implement multi threading.
