Can I reuse content with SharePoint 2010

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 10, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I am an IA working with a client on creating a new intranet using SharePoint 2010. I do not have noteworthy experience with MOSS 2007 or other MS EMS/CMS tools or technologies. My question is this, from a page design standpoint, does SharePoint offer/support content reuse. For example, if I have a piece of content on a particular page (not a web part, but actual content), can I re-use that content on other pages without copying it, retyping it, or otherwise duplicating effort. That is, can I point to a piece of content where it "lives" and then draw out various other pages using the same content. My limited experience with other CM tools makes me think it SHOULD be possible using meta data or some other approach, but I have not identified a way in MOSS 2010. Thanks - Jeff

How to develop Common Content or Application pages in Sharepoint 2010, with respect to the customiz

I have a top level site and subsites (which might be around 10). Where as the top level site represents a common landing page and each sub site represents a client site to which user will be directed upon login. This is a PUBLISHING web site. I need to design to start with common pages across all clients and if there is a need let the client to customize the common page accroding to their need. This is a PUBLISHING site so all these common pages should have Web parts zones with authoring capabilities. What is the best way of achieving this?

SharePoint 2010 Search Service Application: "All Content" scope contains 0 items?

I've encountered a nasty bug in our setup. Our Search Service Application manages to crawl all content just fine. However, the scopes don't work. We've got a total of 570 items currently in our crawl database. 350 of these are of class 'People', and appear in the 'People' scope. The remaining 220 items should appear in 'All Content' as part of the intra (sites, documents etc), however the 'All Content' scope reports 0 items. I've tried the following: -Creating custom scopes (still 0 items) -Recreating the Search Service Application twice -Tried different accounts as the content access account. -Ensuring that the content access accounts do have 'full read policy' -Checked the crawl log for successful content (such as sites and documents). However, despite my efforts I still get 0 items for 'All Content'.  Has anyone else encountered this problem, or do you have any recommendation for us? Currently I don't see any other option than to reinstall everything.

Sharepoint 2010 Missing Content Types

Has anyone run into an issue where your system's base content types dissappear after deploying a new site definition.  We are doing a proof of concept using several CMS solutions and decided to see how sharepoint would fare in the process.  I worked on the POC for 6 weeks without any issues.  After selecting sharepoint as the solution I started refactoring my code into a more logical structure as many of the components were developed from sample code.  I created a couple of custom site definitions that were pretty simple.  Basically I copied the onenet.xml from the publishing site template that sharepoint uses and made a few simple modifications like associating my custom master page and a custom content type with the default page.  When I initially developed these I had no issues at all but yesterday I suddenly was not able to create sites using these site defs.  I figured there was some kind of conflict with my old templates so I deleted all site collections on the server and then tried to create a new site collection and then I couldn't even create a base publishing site.  I got an error indicating the base content type did not exist.  After spending hours going through logs it was clear that sharepoint was not able to build the content type hiearchy when creating new sites so I took a look at the UI and there were only abo

SharePoint 2010 Content DB Recovery Model

Hello Everyone, the following link states that the content db for SharePoint 2010 uses simple recovery model. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd207314.aspx   whereas this link at SQL Server documentation says that Simple model is not suitable for production systems because it has risk of data loss http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189275.aspx   These two look totally contradictory to me.
