Katmai SSMS - Intellisense stopped working

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 10, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
HiI was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. I have been happily using the Intellisense features of Katmai without any problems for a month now. However, a couple of days ago, it stopped working. I have tried numerous things to revive it including deleting everything under: -%appdata%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL ServerHKCU\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Serverand restarting SMSS but I had no success. Tbh, I am not even sure where Intellisense cache is kept?Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.Blair

XAML intellisense stopped working for project

We are working on a WPF-based application and have recently lost XAML intellisense on the project. Here's what we've discovered:

  1. XAML intellisense only fails to work in XAML files where we reference a CLR namespace inside the current assembly (using xmlns:s="clr-namespace=Namespace.Name").
  2. If we clean the solution, XAML intellisense works for all XAML files no matter what namespace is referenced - even for custom controls
  3. If we then rebuild the solution, intellisense stops working again
  4. If after building we add an assembly reference pointing to the current assembly to the namespace references (using xmlns:s="clr-namespace=Namespace.Name;assembly=CurrentAssemblyName"), intellisense works again, but building fails (I'm assuming because we're trying to reference an assembly that hasn't been built yet)

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

VS2010 XAML namespace intellisense not working

When I type in a namespace in XAML, I'm not getting any intellisense. For example: xmlns:local="" In VS2008 I would get a long intellisense list here. In VS2010 I get nothing. I have tried this on 2 different computers. What am I missing?

Executing a job from a stored procedure stopped working

I've got a stored procedure in database A that calls the sp_start_job stored procedure in msdb as follows:   CREATE PROCEDURE xxxxx WITH EXECUTE AS 'domain\username'   AS   EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_start_job B'jobname' ;   RETURN   The domain\username is the in the database sysadmin role and the owner of the job.  To make this work originally, I had to change the msdb database to be trusted.   This worked for the past several months.   Now it doesn't work (perhaps after a reboot but not sure).  The error I get is "The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_start_job', database 'msdb', schema 'dbo'   I looked to make sure that the account had grant execute rights and it does.  I tried setting it via GRANT statement and it was granted successfully yet the error still occurs.  I've tried changing accounts and anything else I can think of to no avail.   Any ideas how to troubleshoot this issue.  I've tried all the tricks I can think of.   Thanks - SM

SSMS 2008 - Shows Service Status as Stopped Though Service is started

Hi, I have a SQL Server 2008 - Active/Passive Cluster. The issue I am facing here is that, when I do a Failover from Node A to Node B, All the Cluster Services come online and the SQL Services are running (checked using the SQL Configuration Manager and Services console). However when I open the management studio, The Service status Indicator shows a Red Block mark against the ServerName and the SQL Server Agent. When I try connecting to the server remotely from another server, the status is displayed correctly in the SSMS(i.e the green sign with the arrow) .  This issue happens when I locally login to the server and connect using ssms. I am an Admin on both the boxes and even the service account with which the services run also has admin privileges. Any pointers? Thanks,

Breakpoints stopped working during debugging in vs.net 2005

I had the strangest bug yesterday while trying to debug in vs.net 2005.... I had an '05 web application.  I clicked the "Run" button to start debugging, and the webpage popped up fine.  I could run through the pages fine.  Everything seemed fine....UNTIL!   Until I tried to start inserting breakpoints into my code.  The application ignored them.  In addition, I noticed my little green visual studio "Start Debugging" arrow (which is normally greyed out while in debug mode) was green.  It was as if visual studio completely detached itself from my website I was trying to debug. After playing around with it for a while, I realized I also had a vs.net 2008 solution open as well.  My '08 solution wasn't in debug mode or anything, it was just sitting there open.  I just happened to close it, not thinking anything of it, and presto!  My 2005 debugger started working again! So basically, I can't debug an '05 solution (or at least a web solution, as that's all I tried) while I also have an '08 solution open.  Anyone know why?  Is there anything I can do to prevent this?   Thanks.

Suite Integration Toolkit executable has stopped working On Windows 2008 R2

I am not sure what else I can say about this except I seem to run into this error each time I attempt to install any .NET Related tool above 1.1. I have tried clean out all .NET installs to reinstall but I run up against this and at this point, I have a machine that is clean of .NET 2.0 through 4.0. I am unable to reinstall because I keep running up against this problem. webserver40.exe has stopped working

I've just upgraded a visual studio.net 2003 project (asp.net 1.1) to visual studio.net 2010 (asp.net 4.0). I'm encountering a problem with viewing Crystal reports. I'm using Visual Studio Development Server as a Web Server. When I try to create a new report (via code that worked fine previously) the line below causes the webserver40.exe to crash. Protected WithEvents MyRep As New CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument I've got Crystal Reports 11 installed. Thanks in advance for your help with this matter. Lee

Windows Forms application Stopped Working message in Windows Vista

A Windows Forms application developed with VB2008 Express that has been successfully run on two Windows XP systems and a Windows 7 system fails to run on two of two Windows Vista systems tried so far.

Attempting to run the app on a Windows Vista system results in a system dialog box titled, Microsoft Windows, with the message, A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.  A single button at the lower right of the dialog contains the text, Close Program.
The initial form of the application never displayed and the dialog above appeared with little delay after attempting to start the program.

The program uses an SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 database and the program is compiled to include the following .DLL files so the user does not need to install SQL ServerCE.

The Load event of the initial form causes a DataSet to be filled from the SQL CE DB.

VS2010 has stopped working error adding new item to folders in MVC2

I am using VS2010 Pro in 64 bit Windows 7. When I add a new item to a folder in an ASP.NET MVC2 project, VS frequently crashes with a "Visual Studio has stopped working" error and then closes down. If I re-open the project the item is not visible in the MVC project folder, (but it is visible to windows explorer although I think it's corrupted). If I then try to add the item again, it warns me that it already exists and asks to overwrite, choosing yes to overwrite usually works OK.  When adding an .edmx item it is more problematic, I can't overwrite it but because I know that there actually is a file in the folder, (although not visible and albeit corrupted), I can add it as an existing item and then choose "update model from database" to get it to work. This error is happening more and more frequently.

XAML Intellisense not working

Hello everyone, I am using VSTS2008 SP1, and after resetting my user profile settings of VSTS, Intellisense on my XAML page stopped working. And I'm not sure if this issue is related, I am also getting this error message every time I try to paste something onto the XAML page.

Usage Reports / Graphical User Statistics stopped working

Hi all,

our usage reports (e.g. at /_layouts/SpUsageSite.aspx ) stopped working after we migrated the database from one server to another. The "raw statistics" (_layouts/usagedetails.aspx), however, are still showing some numbers.

All services are still running, all relevant settings in Central Admin (SSP, Operations) are still active. Does anyone knoe what could be the cause for this?

My user controls stopped working in Design mode! Why?

I have a few user controls that I have been using for months but now whenever I open a page in Blend that uses one of the controls I get an invalid xaml error. The project still compiles and runs and behaves just like it's supposed to but I can't edit xaml in Design view because of this error.

In the page I have

<local:ACAVariableWidth x:Name="CIDCloseButton" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Margin="0,0,17.54,15" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Width="174" Height="89" MouseLeftButtonDown="callerID_close" Text="Close"/>

The error is: The member "Text" is not recognized or is not accessible

In the user control xaml I have:

		<StackPanel x:Name="TopSP" Orientation="Horizontal" VerticalAlignment="Top" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Height="76" d:IsLocked="True">
			<TextBlock x:Name="ACATB" Margin="8,8,8.5,9.5" FontFamily="APHont" FontSize="32" Padding="5,0" Foreground="White" TextAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" Text="{Binding ElementName=UserControl, Path=Text}" d:IsLocked="True">

Visual Studio WebBrowser control's PrintPreviewDialog generates "VSHost32.exe has stopped working"

I'm getting a problem with a VS 2008 application when I use the WebBrowser control's .ShowPrintPreviewDialog method and either print or close the dialog box.  I'm working on a 64-bit Windows 7 computer and using Visual Studio's default Debug option settings.  The problem happens both when running from the IDE in debug mode and after compiling in x86 mode as a stand-alone.

The control is central to as an otherwise effective report management system, so on btnPrint_Click I assign HTML code to .DocumentText and then call .ShowPrintPreviewDialog, which works fine, other than it does need 2 clicks so it seems both stages have to happen as separate events?

Although when I go to print, the document prints okay, the print preview dialog form closes itself and whole program crashes with the above message.  I've also tried separating those stages to avoid the 2-click issue, but I still get the crash.

If I turn Project>Properties>Debug>"Enable unmanaged code debugging" ON, I get this message instead "Unhandled exception at 0x752c77df (urlmon.dll) in PMPos.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000001."

The control's other print dialog methods work fine.   Is there a solution that I can rely on when distributing the application or am I best abondoning this particular

Dynamic compilation of aspx-files stopped working!

I recently ran into some strange problems. Changes to files that are not code-behind (and not gets compiled to a DLL) should not require you to recompile the whole website, and this has never been I problem for me. These should actually get compiled dynamically when you first access the resource, e.g. the first time when browsing an updated aspx-page in the browser.

But yesterday, during development of a website, I noticed that even the smallest changes in html, javascript or anything in the .aspx-files doesn't get reflected when I save and reload the page in my browser. Rebuilding doesn't help either, actually I'll have to do a "Rebuild All" (in Visual Studio 2008) in order to see the changes. This applies to all aspx-files in my project.

I tried with minor changes on files in another web application project on the same server, and there it works as it should. Something must has happened to this particular application, but I cannot figure out what.
Do you have any ideas on how to solve this?

Best regards

Tracking of schema changes replication has stopped working in some of our publications

Environment Summary

Our environment is SQL Server 2008 R2 running Merge Replication with Web Synchronization using the SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 SP2 Server Tools, and SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 SP2 for the client DBs on full Windows XP or later OS’s.  We have about 120 articles, each of which range from 10 published columns to close to the 255 limit. Regarding join filtering, we have a root article filtered on the hostname, which then has 2 levels of filtering cascading off that.  We are using the default Row Level change tracking.

The Problem

Tracking of schema changes replication has stopped working in some of our publications

The manifestation is that subscriptions schemas are left behind at some point in time, and the only temporary recovery has been to delete the client DB and get it to recreate from a snapshot which then contains the latest schema.  However, subsequent schema changes don’t propagate.

The longer term workaround that we have applied has been to manually update the sysmergesubscriptions table on the publication DB and set the schemaversion column values (ALL of which are inexplicably high in this
