Managed Accounts - Generate New Password causes "The password does not meet the password policy requ

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 10, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hello, We are setting up our SharePoint 2010 Farm. I liked the idea of the managed accounts with auto-generating passwords managed by SharePoint. So I setup all my accounts as managed accounts and scheduled several of them to update the password weekly. After the "update" happened my farm went down. So I manually reset passwords and went back into Central Admin to see what was going on. From the managed accounts I tried to manually update the password of my Farm account with the Generate new password functionality and get this error. Error The password does not meet the password policy requirements. Check the minimum password length, password complexity and password history requirements Servers are in a domain with a one-way trust to a parent domain. Thanks!

DCOM Interop: Generate Custom Managed C++ Wrappers for Easier COM Interoperation Using DCOMSuds

Now that you're writing managed code, you'll certainly want to use your existing COM components, but you can't simply call them directly. Instead, you have to wrap the COM component in a runtime-callable wrapper that acts as a proxy between the component and your managed code. While the CLR provides wrapper classes for this purpose, there will be times when you'll want custom objects to wrap your COM components. One way to get the low-level access you need to precisely control resource cleanup, pass security information, and get access to CLR features is to write your own wrapper class in managed C++. This article shows you how.

Add Managed Accounts error

I follow the instructions in http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx and get to the 'Create SharePoint Managed Accounts and Web Applications'. When I try to register DOMAIN\spcontent or DOMAIN\spservices, I get 'The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed'. Server is 2008 R2, Sharepoint 2010. All patches and updates applied. Server is correctly attached to the domain   Jeff

Managed Service Accounts

Can I use a Managed Service Account to access a SQL server database? The docs say MSA's were created to ease passsword management to  Exchange and IIS.  However, the FAQ says not supported for SQL and Task Scheduleer.  I'm not sure if the FAQ is referring to the service accounts sql runs under or login accounts to sql server. I would like to use MSA's for: 1.    an exe that needs to run nightly to move SQL data around 2.  an IIS Application Pool where the associated website needs to get sql data off a remote sql server.   http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd548356%28WS.10%29.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff641729%28WS.10%29.aspx

Configure managed accounts - object reference not set to an instance of an object - error

I was working in central admin and activated the managed accounts password change for the farm account with the option to change the password now.  I got the email notification that the password was changed and it seems in the log files that it did update all the credentials that were used with the account.  Problem is now that when I hit the configure managed accounts link in central admin all I get is the error: Error Object reference not set to an instance of an object.  Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Managed Account Password Changes Failing

<!-- [if gte mso 10]> <mce:style> I was troubleshooting a problem with the Profile Sync Service and discovered some permission problems.  I noticed that my monthly timer job (which is running daily now) for generating new passwords is failing.  Watching ULS while manually running the job returned some curious records. At the end of the list was an Access is Denied error which I assume – but am not convinced – is the problem.  The w3wp process is running under the farm admin account which is an db_owner of the SP_Config database.  If it needs more perms, please let me know what they are. There were other strange records returned by the ULS in the Database category.  These are, in order There was a warning that “A large block of literal text was sent to sql…” Slow Query Duration: 43.39… Slow Query Stack Trace-Managed:… ConnectionString: ‘Data Source=xxx;Initial Catalog=SP_Config…” and now for the winner SqlCommand: ‘BEGIN TRAN; EXEC … The SqlCommand had 78,111 characters (not an exaggeration) and is clearly malformed.  There was a single-quoted string:   ‘… EXEC @PutDepReturnValue = dbo.proc_putDependency @ObjectId0, @DependantId; IF (@PutDepReturnValue <> 0) BEGIN ROLLBACK TRAN; RETURN; END EXEC @PutDepReturnValue = dbo.proc_putDepend

We are using sharepoint 2010 with a RODC,  I was informed that we needed to changed the Farm Admin password, since the we are using the RODC I cannot cahnge the PW in sharepoint, I have to change the PW by having a Doamin Admin change the AD account password, then in  central admin > managed Accoutnts I use this "To set the stored password value to a current known value, select use existing password and enter a password value."  I can log on with the new password and it says welocme system account...  eveything seems to work..,  EXCEPT the lookup to "select people and groups" that are using FORMS Auth, I can now only get the NT Auth users and groups. How do I change the paswwords using a RODC and have everything work???

symmetric key protected by a password

An alternative could be using a symmetric key protected by a password, as long as your application generates the CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY and OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY statements directly instead of calling them inside a SP (otherwise the password will still be passed as a parameter, and will be in clear in the profiler).

Use Membership but bypass / disable password usage for users

I have an application that does LDAP authentication. The authentication is done on the code behind page of my Login.aspx page. Once the user passes LDAP authentication, a cookie is set and I redirect:

FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(UserName.Text, False)

I would like to setup membership in my application and keep track of some user information. But due to company security requirements, I cannot store user passwords on my application. That must stay on the LDAP server only.

Is there a way to store users but disable password storage on the aspnet_membership table?
