Attach Workflow to Task List, don't get option to manually start workflow via dropdown on task item

I am running WSS 3.0 with other workflows which are functioning correctly.  I created a new workflow in Visual Studio 2008 and was able to successfully run it in my dev environment.  I attached the workflow to a task list in my dev environment and was able to manually start the workflow by using the drop down workflow option and using the menus to manually start it.  I installed this workflow in our production environment and attached it to the task list (which had a SPD workflow attached to it which stopped working about a month ago).  I made sure that the option to manually start the workflow was checked.  When I tried to manually start the workflow, (hover mouse over title, drop down) there isn’t a workflow option.  The workflow also will not start automatically when a task is changed.

I attached this same workflow to a different task list in production and get the option to start it.

I have tried creating a small workflow in SPD 2007 and attaching it to the task list.  It shows that it is attached, when I look at the workflows that are attached to the task list, but I still don’t get the option to manually start it.

I have checked my security and I have fu

SPD custom workflow cretating _.000 in list

Hello,I have a custom workflow activity, that creates a document library each time an item is created and assign values to this item including a hyperlink field. However my issue is that when i open the list with SPD i have a ID_.000 (empty) file created for each new item in the list. Is this normal?? If i remove from the workflow the action that sets the value for the Hyperlink field i don't get this behavior. Any idea. thanks in advance.R

Workflow - automatically create discussion item using title field of of custom list item as its subj

Anyone any ideas as to how I can configure SharePoint to create a discussion item using the title of a list item. e.g. user creates list item on a custom list - SP automatically creates a Discussion thread for this list item in the discussions list. I'm guessing this can't be down OOTB . would I be looking at SPD or a coded solution ? regards, Counie

Custom Workflow TaskEditForm(Custom Content Type) not getting displayed in Tasks List.

I have developed a custom sequential workflow. I have also developed a custom content type derived from Workflow Task Content Type.

I have 1 TaskEditForm.aspx in this custom Content Type. The custom Content Type is getting associated with the Tasks List but when I click EditItem option in ECB Menu or Ribbon,the in-built EditForm.aspx gets displayed instead of displaying my custom TaskEditForm.aspx from the custom Content Type.

Can anybody help?

Hi, I have a custom workflow developed,i have made it available to designer (in actions). From the designer i will be applying this as an action to a list and set this workflow to start on new item adding. Now,what i want is in the custom activity(workflow) code(developed in visual studio 2010) I need the list deatils(such as guid) on which the workflow is attached in designer, also need to get the item which triggered the workflow to run. What can be done for this, Can dependecy property work,but i dont want the user to set a list name as a custom property,sicne the workflow is going to be applied by client through designer. Can i use some other dependency property like getting the context or something?

custom workflow does not start

For some reason i can not start any of custom workflows created in SharePoint Designer 2010.

Those are very simple workflows updating just one field. I have checked in the admin console and user definded workflows are enabled.

Do I need to do anything else to get them working?

Also to be more precise i'm able to start those workflows manually - only automatic starts are issue when item is created or updated.

SharePoint Designer Workflow to email multiple recipients listed in a custom list

Hi all,

I created a workflow in designer attached to a form library. I also have a custom list "Admins" containing names of persons that serves a different purpose but would also like to be used as recipients for the workflow email everytime a new item in the form library is created.

I have been searching the net and tried out few work arounds but so far able to send to only one person in the "Admins" list. The list has a column "Admin Name" which is of type "Person or Group".

Thanks in advance!

I have couple of question to experts here in sharepoint.

I created a custom list & given add, view anonymous access in our intranet site.

then i went to our public site & submitted the item i get error saying " An unexpected error has occured" instead of showing the allitem.aspx for custom list.

But item is submitted in sharepoint custom list.

i collected following infomation in the event log

Custom Workflow won't auto start, but only for one user.

Hi, I have a custom worklfow which is associated with a list.  The workflow is set to auto start when a new item is added to the list.  This happens fine for every user in my organisation, but not for one particular user.  When he submits a new item to the list, nothing happens. The Workflow just will not start.  There are no errors in the log and no attempt is made to start the workflow.  The user is part of a SharePoint group which has contirbute (no delete) permission on the list, just like everyone else in that group who works fine.

This user also is having problems progressing the workflow, if I start the workflow for him and assign it to him.

The workflow above, manages a CR process, creating tasks for users, taking their responses from custom task forms and populating a CR document held in a document library.  The first step for a user is to fill in a task form which when submitted, sets the task to 100% complete, then populates the CR document with the text the user entered.  Once the task is at 100%, the workflow process is looking for this, closes the task and creates a new task for an approver.  The problem for this same is user is that, the task gets set to 100%, but the CR doesn't progress.  Again, no errors are shown, but the tp_workflowversion value in the userdata table in the content datab

Custom Workflow Activity Works 'Manually' but can't be fired using CodePlex's 'Start Another Wo

Consider 2 lists.  In one list, a workflow runs on an item and if conditions are right, it creates an item in another list, pauses for 5 min, then starts another workflow on that newly created list item (using CodePlex's old 'Start Another Workflow' routine).

All of that works great, used it many times in many situations without fail, so long as I put a pause between the item creation and calling the workflow on the newly created item.

I've started writing my own custom workflow activities, all of them work just fine, up to 5 now, really useful to do little things that SPD Workflow can't do by itself.  The 5th one I added was a very simple 'Now' routine.  The class itself is called 'GetNow' and has a 'RightNow' property that's DateTime and it works great.  I have the need to stamp something with the current date/time, and I haven't modified the underlying record yet, and setting a Date/Time variable only takes Today or a static date/time, with 'Today' returning the current date, but '12 am', which is redunculous, but I digress.

So my step compiles, updated my .ACTIONS file which holds the definition for the other 4 custom routines.  I have the context 'in' parameter and one 'out' parameter for 'RightNow' defined as System.DateTime (which I think is where the problem is, possibly), and it all works if I

create custom timer job to start a workflow

i have created a project with visual studio, to start every day a workflow on every item in a list.

when i place my code in a webpart and i run the code on 1 item, the workflow will start normally.

when i place my code in the  timer job in the execute method, the timer job will finnish normally but there will be not workflow started.

public override void Execute(Guid contentDbId)

            SPWorkflowManager objWorkflowManager = null;
            SPWorkflowAssociationCollection objWorkflowAssociationCollection = null;

            using (SPSite mySiteCollection = new SPSite(siteurl))
                using (SPWeb mySite = mySiteCollection.OpenWeb())

Workflow Error - Failed on Start (retrying) - Allow this list to receive e-mail? Yes

I have created a simple discussion board list with NO modifications to the fields or views.  I have turned on the option to allow new items to be created via email (Allow this list to receive e-mail? = yes).  In sharepoint designer I have created a simple workflow that sets a workflow variable (type string) to 'true'.  When I manually create a new discussion board item for this list, the workflow completes successfully; however, when I email in a new discussion board item, the item is created, but the workflow fails with the "Failed on Start (retrying)" workflow status.

The workflow is set to only fire when new items are created.

Using Workflow Initiation Form to Modify the Value of a Lookup Column in a List Using a Custom Looku

I am trying to develop a workflow and an associated initiation form that will allow a user to update a column in a list that is a lookup column. I have code working so that the lookup options are being properly pulled from the list and populated in the drop down on the initiation page. However after  completing the initiation page and starting the workflow, with a value selected in the lookup list, the value does not get properly updated; it appears to be updating with a null value.

The following is my code for the XOML and Initiation ASPX file. The name of the Lookup Column is "Primary Technical Category" with an XSLT name of "Primary_x0020_Technical_x0020_Ca." The Initiation Variable is also Called Primary Technical Category (PrimaryTechnicalCategory without spaces as SPD renames it).

I would greatly appreciate any assistance!

Thanks, Michael

Custom Form Fields not appearing in Workflow Tasks column list when try to Update List Item

UPDATE:  This problem seems to be solved by closing and reopening the Workflow xoml wizard.

I have created a 3 step workflow and at each step I have a Collect data from user task that I use to Update my list item.  I actually have 4 options (If Else clauses) per step and for each option I have to collect the same data from a different user.  So I'm aiming at using "Update list item" 12 times in this workflow.

I have been developing this workflow over some days but the Custom Form Fields that I create in the "Collect data from user" task are not always available when I try to "Update list item".  By which I mean, I try to specify the "data source and field to perfom the lookup on" and I can select the "Workflow Tasks" list but the field that I just created in the "Collect data from user" task does not appear in the fields list!!!

I can't determine why a field doesn't appear.  I have tried using no spaces or special characters, keeping the name of the field short but for some reason my newly created field doesn't appear in the list.  The field does appear in the content type when I look at the settings for the "Workflow Tasks" list and the field appears in the "Workflow Tasks" list of columns and the site content type.&n

Access Denied error on custom workflow task list item

We have created a two level custom approval workflow on (an InfoPath) form library using SharePoint Designer (SPD) with first and second approver. The workflow works fine as long as the approver is in the Site Collection Administrators group. The approvers who are not in the admin group can get to the custom Task form for approve/reject, but they can only view the form. When they click on the “Edit Item” button of the task list item, they receive “Access Denied” error. We have given these approvers “Approve”, “Contribute” permissions on the Form library and even Full Control on the task form list (all items). Note: The users use their domain account and the error they are getting is: Access Denied, You are currently signed as DomainName\LoginName, Sign in as a different user.

We have read through several forums and have found people having the same issue. We tried all of the suggestions described in the following links - but no success so far.
