The failure ID is 29.  This error may have been caused by an earlier operation failing. Check the error logs for failed operations immediately before this error message. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I restart the IIS server and SQL server since then until today I haven't face similar error. Typed DataSets/Connection Pooling

 Hey all,

I've got an ASP.net application that has about 100-120 sites connecting to punch in/out in the beg of shift, lunch, and end of shift. I've found that the app gets slow/non-responsive during peak times. Also, I'm noticing that the app will throw Oracle End of File Communication errors periodically during the day. I'm using Strongly typed Datasets to interact with the DB. I have a couple of questions:

1. What type of cleanup should I be performing? Should I be closing/disposing the connection or Adapter instance or is this handled internally by the dataSet?

2. I have the connection pooling set to the default - 100. Should I increase this or will this cause other performance issues? How would one test to see if the connection pool is maxing out? Could this be causing the Oracle EOF (ORA-03113) errors?

Thanks!

Good news for those of you who get "Unable to make the session state request to the session state se

Dear all,

Due to the known problem of session variables getting lost if using InProc-server during frequent changes in development, I had to choose between SQL and ASP.NET State server, so I opted for the second. Initially, all fine, but after using it for a few days, I started to get this error:

 Server Error in '/cv2' Application.
Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports are the same.  If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\aspnet_state\Parameters\AllowRemoteConnection.  If the server is on the local machine, and if the before mentioned registry value does not exist or is set to 0, then the state server connection string must use either 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' as the server name.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Connection Pooling To SQL Server

Hi Folks,

I'm a new SQL PFE and just encountered my first SharePoint installation at a customer site. (The first of many, I'm sure.) I ran some health checks on the SQL Server and noticed 600-700 user connections from the SharePoint account. The SharePoint admins and developers are novice to junior-level, and unfamiliar with connection pooling. I've never worked with SharePoint before and don't know what it's normal behavior is or how connections should be managed by SharePoint.

They indicated the SharePoint system is relatively new and only getting a small amount of use compared to what is expected soon.

SQL Server is handling the load well right now, but if the number of connections grows proportionally to the load, this will become a performance constraint.

1. Is this a normal number of connections for SharePoint?
2. If not, where can the SharePoint staff and myself find a thorough explanation of the principles of SharePoint connection pooling?

Thanks, JDL

How to reuse a SSL-Session

Hello, I connect to a server using ftps (ftp over tls).  Both the control-connection and the data-connection shall be encrypted as specified in RFC4217. I use .net 2.0 and the SSLStream to initially establish the control-connection and this works just fine. For transferring any data encrypted using the data-connection i have to resume the SSLSession of the control-connection. The Server does not only support this but also requests this behaviour in order to establish a valid data-connection. My problem is now: how do i set up an encrypted connection that uses an already negotiated SSLSession. I havent found any references about that topic in the net and SSLStream doesnt seem to support it. My first hope was the cache of the framework to reuse any cached sessions for new ones but this didnt work. Thanks in advance for any helpful hints. Connection problem while connecting from client to server.

Hello, i am trying to connect sql server 2005 express using c#.net 3.5. my connection string is "Server=.\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\DATA\db_naren.mdf;Database=db_naren; Trusted_Connection=Yes;" this is working fine when i am connecting to sql server from the local machine. When i am trying to connect from someother machine to server it is giving error like A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) i added previliges in add new administrator on SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration . and i made changes on SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration  page, on Database Engine --> Remote Connections -->Local and remote connections --> Using both TCP/IP and named pipelines. still same error i am getting from client machine i am using connection string as "Server=MyServer\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\DATA\db_naren.mdf;Database=db_nare; Trusted_Connection=Yes;" is there any thing i need to do to connect from client machine to server?please

Unable to connect to SQL Server 2005 remotly, all client protocols are blank

I have an installation of SQL 2005 and had issues connecting remotly. Looking at the client protocolols, they are all blank. I can see that TCPIP, Named Pipes, VIA, etc. are 'enabled', but where the words 'TCPIP', 'Names Pipes', etc. should be, it's just blank. I tried to install SQL 2008R hoping the Client Protocols would be corrected during the installaion, but they were not. I'm assuming the issue with the Client Protocols not showing up is a symptom of the problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Rare exception: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcib

Our .NET 2.0 app relies upon the ability to download xml webpages from URLs.  At startup, we have about 6 boxes in the wild (out of thousands) that are seeing the following inner exception when they try to download an xml page.  System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. (Inner: ) System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. They can get to the URL in their browser just fine, so we know our server is working.  Furthermore, the embedded WebBrowser control in our app can pull up webpages just fine, so I don't think their firewall is blocking our app.  I'm hoping it's just some diagnosible configuration issue.  Here is the snippet of code that does the downloading: WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create(fileToDownload.SourceUri);request.CachePolicy = new RequestCachePolicy(RequestCacheLevel.NoCacheNoStore);request.Timeout = (int)DefaultTimeout.TotalMilliseconds;request.Method = "HEAD";WebResponse response = request.GetResponse(); Nothing revolutionary there. (I've also tried it without the HEAD request, without keepalive, and using HTTP 1.0).  And here is the exception: System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.
