PAGEIOLATCH_SH causing long delays after upgrade to SQLSERVER 2005

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Some processes in our PeopeSoft system are running extremely long after upgrading from SQLSERVER 2000 to SQLSERVER 2005 SP4. Processes that use to run in 15 minutes now take 4 hours to run. Some processes run in the same amount of time and don't seem to be affected by the upgrade. When I examine the long running processes in Activity Monitor I see the wait type showing up as PAGEIOLATCH_SH. Any ideas as to what might be going on? Our SQLSERVER implementation is a standard install. What should we be looking at to improve the situation?

SQL Server 2005 - Maintenance Jobs take a long time after OS Upgrade

We have SQL 2005 Ent Edition (SP2) on W2k3 R2 Ent Edition. This OS was previously on Std Edtion and we had done an In-Place upgrade to Ent Edition some time back. Since then the Maintenance plans - Update Stas & Index Rebuild seem to take double the time to execute. I do believe this could be due to an already busy disk subsystem (RAID 5 array).

Can someone pls advice what could be possible reason for this sudden increase in the maintenance job execution time.

SQLServer 2008 Tools and SQL 2005 Cluster

I recently built a SQL Server 2005 cluster on the o/s Windows Server 2008 R2.  I have been attempting to connect to the cluster from my Windows 7 dekstop with my SQL Server 2008 Tool set.  I have been unable to attach to this cluster since its creation. The firewall is temp off, remote connections in the surface area configuration is set to pipes and tcp/ip and the Browser surface is up and running. I ran Wireshark against the cluster and I could see that there was UDP conversations for ms-sql-m (SQL Port) but that was as far as it would get.  I am using a named instance so not using 1433, but I do see the cluster offering up high RPC ports but the client never responds after the initial UDP response. When I noticed that there was a two way conversation taking place, I went to a seperate machine and fired up SQL Server 2005 Tools and I was easily able to attach to the cluster.  So my question is - Are there any known incompatibilities between SQL Server 2005 cluster services and SQL Server 2008 Tool set?  I can use my 2008 tools to attach to a non-clustered SQL Server 2005 w/o issue.   Error when attempting to connect: A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to sql server.  The server was not found or was not accessible.  Verify that the instance name is correct and the SQL Server is con

Moving a Copy of SQL Report Server 2005 and Upgrade to 2008

Hello, We have SQL 2005 Report Server in a Windows 2003 64 bit server box. We want to create a copy of this report server database somewhere in the domain, so that we can access it for a different purpose. My question is, will there be any complications with this? I'm thinking about the encryption key that's needed to access the database. If we are successful with this, we might also want to upgrade to SQL 2008. Thanks for your help,   Elizabeth K.

Recent upgrade to .NET4 causing problem

with Win7 Pro version of Windows Mobile Device Center.  After the upgrade I now get a warning message that says "to run this application you must first install one of the following versions of the .NET framework: v4.0.30319 Contact your application publisher about obtaining the appropriate version of the .NET framework" After exhaustively searching the MS website I decided to try these forums to try to get help with this problem.  Could someone help me out with this issue and/or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

2005 Enterprise upgrade to 2008 Standard?

We are currently running 2005 Enterprise Edition. Is it possible to move the database to 2008 Standard Edition?

Upgrade SQL 2005 standard Runtime edition to SQL 2005 standard edition full version

We have a MS SQL 2005 standard edition runtime license. The SQL Server Runtime license is a license that lets an independent software vendor (ISV) embed the complete SQL Server code into a solution for use only by the ISV application. The customers of the ISV cannot use this SQL Server product to run other applications or to develop new applications, databases, or tables. Now we want to add a new database to the SQL. We know that we have to buy a full version of SQL 2008 standard edition. But the question is: How can we add a new database to the existing SQL. Do we have to uninstall SQL runtime license and install the full version and migrate the existing databse or can we change the key and add new databases to the SQL server?

Upgrade from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 cause problems with MSDTC

We have recently upgraded our server from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008.  Previously we were running our asp.net application using MSDTC with no problems. Since we upgraded, we are encountering problems that seem to relate to Multiple Active Result Sets (MARS).  The error we receive is: "There is already an open DataReader associated with this Command which must be closed first" when we try and perform a save process.  To fix this problem we added MultipleActiveResultSets=True to the connection string.  We now get the error: "The transaction operation cannot be performed because there are pending requests working on this transaction." Within the transaction scope we save to a table and then load from the same table.  Our stack trace indicates this is where the first error occurs.  Again, this transaction worked using SQL Server 2005. If we do not use MSDTC by putting Enlist=false in the connection string, the request works. We are really stumped as to what to do.  We would prefer not to have to role back to SQL Server 2005 and would also prefer not to have to have sweeping code changes in our application.  We have test MSDTC by using DTC ping on our servers and it works. Your help is greatly needed and would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Steve and Nilesh

Your upgrade is blocked.. when adding components to SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP1

Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools Hello, I am having a problem when trying to add the Client Components to an existing installation of SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP1 running on Windows 2003 Standard. The server was originally built with SQL 2005 Standard Edition and had SP1 installed at a later date. I am using the CD that SQL was originally installed with which is not a service packed copy of SQL. The reason given when clicking the details button is as follows: Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online. Build version check: Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Steve
