SQL 2005 Server export to Foxpro fails by "default codepage missing"

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi, I just tried to apply the foxpro driver VFPOLEDBSetup.msi to import and export an old format dbf. First of all no other method is available in this case, as one of the dbf-tables holds about 9 million rows. I don't want to (manually) go to excel and wait for 10 years importing it there, then only to discover i need another 10 years to get it into sql server.   Here's my task at hand: Source: street/housenumber database with approx 9 million rows Task:  Convert it to SQL server database (import DTS)           Change some data Export it back to DBF format. I don't have any problems acting on the first two steps (dts import to SQL 2k5 and changing data) I doooo have some problems with the last part. As soon as i define the DTS through the wizzard, it leaves the "CodePage" blank. However, upon executing it i receive some warnings and finally errors: On the "Setting Destination Connection" action in the final execution progress window: - Setting Destination Connection (Warning) Messages Warning 0x80202066: Destination - housenum [40]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the co

SQL Server 2005 Standard edition install fails; An instance with the same name.../

Good Morning

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 onto Windows Server 2003 Small Business Edition. Previously SQL Server 2000 from the SBE disk was installed, automatic updates are enabled.

I have selected the default instance and everything I try results in the error:

Log file says;

Silent install of SQL Server 2005 fails when SQL Server 2008 is installed

We currently install SQL Server 2005 Express silently during our installation, using the following switches

We also attach a 2005-created database immediately after using the following command line (^ is a path concat operator in Installshield):

sqlcmd.exe -S .\\SQLEXPRESS -E -i \"" + svConfigPath ^ "SetupUapDB.sql\" -vmdfpath=\"" + svConfigPath ^ "UapCfg.mdf\" -vldfpath=\"" + svConfigPath ^ "UapCfg_log.ldf\" -o \"" + svConfigPath ^ "SqlCreateDB.txt\" -e

Note that we do not specify an instance name.  We ran into a situation where someone had installed SQL Server 2008 on a box using a default instance name and our install then failed.  I am considering 2 possible fixes, and have questions for both.

Fix #1: Specify an instance name.  Ideally this would install SQL Server 2005 Express side by side with SQL Server 2008, create a unique instance name and we'd be good to go right?  If yes, what is the accepted convention for specifying instance names?

Fix #2: Not sure if this is possible.  Can we detect if SQL Server 2008 is on the box, and if yes, apply our 2005 database to it instead?  In this case (tell me

sql server 2005 install on SBS2003 fails due to registry key permissions

I am posting this to hopefully help someone else that encounters the same issue in the future...

Server:  SBS 2003 Premium, with exchange and with all service packs/patches applied.
Server-name: NEWSERVER
Server migrated from: OLDSERVER
Important notes:
This server was migrated from another SBS 2003 on different HW following the instructions provided by microsoft.
The oldserver had exchange and sql 2005 installed on it.
The new server has Office Accounting 2005 installed, but I don't think that matters...

I am trying to install SQL 2005 from the SBS2003-R2 DVD onto the new server, and get the following error:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup

SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions on registry key SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib for user Administrator. To proceed, verify that the account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist, that the account running SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and that the registry key  exists on the destination drive.

Import/Export data with SQL Server 2005 Express

SQL Server 2005 fails to start after install on Server 2008 R2 SP1 64-bit

New install of Server 2008 R2 64-bit upgraded to SP1.

I have SQL Server 2005, no matter how I install it, it fails to start the main SQL Service giving me the error:

"The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually.""

It then rolls back just that portion of the install and completes the install. I thought the following article might be the ticket, but no matter which SQL Server 2005 SP I try this with or which method they describe (reducing processor count, etc), I get the same error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954835/en-us

Is it SP1 on Server 2008 R2 that is the problem? I have found various articles online speaking of pretty much the same issue, but these are posted before SP1 and people seem to be able to get things working.

Any thoughts?

SQL Server Express 2005 Installation Fails when No Instances of Express Qualify

Windows update wants to install KB 2463332 for SQL Server Express 2005, however I have no instances of Express 2005 that qualify for the update. Please see summary of installation that follows.  I have manually installed KB 2463332 for the SQL Server 2005 instances and the update finished successfully - all instances of SQL Server 2005 have been updated, but KB 2463332 will not update the SQL Server 2005 Express instances. Why do my SQL Server Express instances not qualify? How do I get rid of this annoyance? Is there a registry entry that needs to be modified to keep this from recurring? Why is Windows Update trying to apply an update for a product with no qualifying instances? Can anybody please point me in the right direction.

SQL Server 2005 Transactional Replication Fails to Publish Stored Procedure Containing an Index Crea

I've experienced a bizarre problem with a SQL Server 2005 Transactional Publication. The issue is this: If the publication contains an article that is a stored procedure that contains a create index statement, then there is an error thrown when attempting to replicate the schema of the stored procedure to a subscriber.

The behavior is very odd, because even if the create index statement is commented out, it still gives the exception, and it will only work if it is removed altogether.

Here is the exact error that's being returned:

Command attempted: GRANT EXECUTE ON [dbo].[usp_Test] TO [CompanyDatabase_access]

(Transaction sequence number: 0x00000170000008B9000500000000, Command ID: 5)

Error messages: Cannot find the object 'usp_Test', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 15151) Get help: http://help/15151 Cannot find the object 'usp_Test', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 15151) Get help: http://help/15151

The error is accurate, because when I check on the subscriber, the stored procedure wasn't created as expected... but that was the purpose of the publication...

SQL Server 2005 Try and Catch Exception Handling

I'm pretty excited to see that there is some real error handling for T-SQL code in SQL Server 2005. It's pretty painful to have your wonderfully architected .NET solution tainted by less-than-VBScript error handling for stored procedures in the database. The big difference being the addition of TRY..CATCH blocks. Let's take a look:
