VS 2010 Isolated Shell, WPF Designer & Custom Controls produces some assembly reference errors

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF
Hello, i currently try to use the VS 2010 isolated shell for providing a custom WPF editor. As described in the headline the WPF designer is 'partly' not able to find all assemblies (details below). After some research the only similar problem description i found here . Unfortunately I could not find any solution for my problem there. These are the steps i have successfully finished: - create a vs isolated shell application with some basic extensions (some tool windows) - create a Custom Project template based upon the MPFProj project (as describe at: here ) - Add the needed reference for custom control in project template - Create and edit XAML markup (no code behind, only markup) - Compile and run XAML Now, the following problem occurred (as a step by step description): - I add a custom control to the toolbox using the context menu "Choose Items..." (ok ) - I drag this custom control from the toolbox into the WPF designer view (ok ) - The custom control is rendered correctly and no assembly reference errors occurred (ok ) - I hit the F5 button in order to execute the XAML markup -> The application is starting correct and looks as exspected (ok ) - I close the running application (window) -> Now the WPF designer view seems to refresh and 'tells' me that an assembly (the one of the custom control) could not be found (error!!! ): There error text is: "Th

Shell + WPF Designer + custom assembly

Hello! We try to use VS 2010 Shell to make admin workplace for our application framework. We want to use VS WPF designer to make and edit XAML markup. Markup only, not codebehind or something other. If we create xaml with controls from .NET Framework assemblies, it works right way. But we can't use our custom control libraries. Can you please tell if there is some way to make designer know about our assemblies and allow us to edit xaml-files with controls placed in those assemblies. Thankl you!

Registering controls of current assembly object reference NOT set error

Hi There,

I have created a simple ASP.net Web Application (2.0) and have added a web user control.

Now in my page I have added this control but I have registered like this,

<%@ Register Assembly="WebApplication1" Namespace="WebApplication1" TagPrefix="Custom" %>

Which means I want to access all the controls in my current Web Application project

Then I have added my user control like this,

<Custom:MyUserControl ID="MyUserControl1" runat="server" PublicProperty="Hello" />

Every thing is fine but when I execute the project, NO control on my user control gets "instantiated" and thus I receive error "Object Reference Not Set"

Note that My Control has,

1) Public property PublicProperty as String

2) 1 Label control

In Load Event Handler I am setting Text property of Label Control to PublicProperty. Here object reference NOT set error occurs (which means Label control is NOT initialized).

I don't want to register my control using Src, TagPrefix etc. Any ideas?

SharePoint Designer 2010 errors out when trying to connect to SharePoint 2010

When trying to connect Designer 2010 to our SharePoint 2010 we have setup here, the web seems to open, but then it bombs out with an error "An error occurred while trying to fetch data from your SharePoint site. Unknown response from the server.". And we're stuck as of now. Noting this bombs out also from Designer 2010 on the server, as well as from my workstation, so it's some sort of service issue. We've done:1) Firewalls off, on both server and my desktop2) I've been made admin everywhere, including the farm admin. Doesn't just die on my user, but all users get same error.3) Clicking lots of checkboxes in hundreds of places :)Any thoughts as to why designer dies?NotingThat when I Open Site in Designer 2010, and put the Url in the Site Name, the folder structure does show the folders of the site, so I can see images, _catalogs, SitePages, etc. It's just when trying to connect is when it doesn't work.

report definition cannot find custom assembly in VS 2010

I;m trying to use custom code (C#) in a report definition and I have followed the steps outlined in MSDN to get this done. However, whenever I compile the code, I keep getting the following error

"Error while loading code module: ‘GSLibrary, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null’. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'GSLibrary, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

I've scoured through this forum and the net looking for answers but nothing seems to work. The closest answer was to mark the assembly as a trusted code module in the current app domain, but VS2010 complains that this method is deprecated.

The assembly works just fine elsewhere in code. How do I get custom C# code to work with the reports I am creating.

Thanks for your help.

Using Custom Controls in InfoPath 2010

Dear all,

I'm hoping that you can help me, I've never used the custom controls in InfoPath and im only slightly familiar to IP2010.. If I explain what I've done, it might make more sense! I'm trying (firstly) to add the Adobe PDF read ActiveX control onto my InfoPath form, but I get an error:

"Controls that are not compatible with the current view compatibility settings will be hidden." - "The cusomt control that you have added is not compatible with the current form template or template part, and will be hidden in the controls task pane."

This is from a blank form template. What I hope to acheive in the future, is to add a more comprehensive PDF reader, which will allow the user to annotate documents, etc, (if you know of a good free PDF ActiveX control that would do this, feel free to recommend it to me!)

This will eventually be published to a form library on SharePoint 2010, but firstly I'd be happy to just have it working! If you could offer any advice or assistance to the above, it would be most appreciated!!!

Kind Regards,

Sharepoint Designer 2010 - Generated fields names causing errors

I'm creating a number of edit forms for external lists in Sharepoint Designer.  We're using Foundation so these are just the standard forms, not Infopath forms.

Basically I've cretaed the external lists and forms and have been deploying these using a Visual Studio solution.  In the forms I have replaced all the generated sharepoint form controls with asp text boxes or Drop Down Lists and have given these meaningful IDs so it's easier when hooking them up to asp validators.  This worked for the first deploy but now when i edit the form (for example to change a text box to a Drop Down List) I get errors which seem to relate to the field names generated by Sharepoint Designer.  It has generated databind statements which try to bind fields ids already in use elsewhere on the form.

The error message is

Error while executing web part: System.Xml.Xsl.XslTransformException: An error occurred during a call to extension function 'DataBind'. See InnerException for a complete description of the error. ---> System.ArgumentException: Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: 'ff15_1' Key being added: 'ff15_1'

Can anyone explain why it's generating these duplicate references?

Unable to create task using Custom task Process Action in Sharepoint Designer 2010 workflow

Problem : In Sharepoint Designer 2010, we are working on creating reusable workflow.
In workflow we are using "Start Custom task process" action. It has been observed that, all of the sudden it behaves weirdly. It creates task but without any number appending to taskform.for eg. when we create task it generally shows "Start Task(1) process on Current Item with these users" However now it does not provide any number with Task. It shows "Start Task process on Current Item with These users"
In task form , it does not allows to add task forms fields from existing fields nor allows to create outcomes.
Thus we are unable to create any new workflows or edit and enhance exisitng workflows in the site. This is showstoper for project. Client wants to use sharepoint designer exclusively to develop workflow.
When we tried to create workflow (Sharepoint designer) in a new site with new list it allows us to create custom tasks process.
Resoultions approaches done so far.
1) Took backup of site on local box from Server and tried to create custom process task but not able to do it.
2) On Server removed all unwanted workflow status columns from the tasks list but still not able to create custom process task
3) Took backup and t

sharepoint 2010 custom webservice, visual studio 2010, unable to get reference - content type is tex

I followed the MSDN example in how to create a custom webservice that integrates with sharepoint at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms464040.aspx

I'm able to successfully call the custom webservice it walks you through from internet explorer out of a sharepoint 2010 site using a URL such as http://vm-spproduction/sites/resource/_vti_bin/service.asmx

And, I'm able to successfully call the same custom webservice from internet explorer out of the same sharepoint 2010 server with the URL http://vm-spproduction/_vti_bin/service.asmx

In Visual Studio 2010 (running on the same hardware server as sharepoint 2010), I am able to bring up the same custom webservice in the add web reference using the advanced buttons of the add service reference dialog.  But, when the custom webservice is found, visual studio reports the following error:

The document at the url http://vm-spproduction/sites/resource/_vti_bin/service.asmx was not recognized as a known document type.
The error message from each known type may help you fix the problem:

Custom Controls in C# .NET

Embedding user controls in a Windows form is just like adding a simple button or text box that are already provided with .NET. These basic controls were written essentially like you code your own controls. Typically the controls you design are to be used in multiple forms or to modularize your code. These reasons help reduce the amount of code you have to type as well as make it easier for you to change your implementation. There should almost never be any reason to duplicate code because it leaves a lot of room for bugs. So, implementing functionality specific to your control in the control's source code is a good idea. This reduces code duplication as well as modularize your code, which is a good programming guideline.
