Can Not Add Sharepoint Connection in VS2010 Ultimate

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I installed VS 2010 Ultimate yesterday on my desktop. I select 'New Project' for C# > Select SharePoint > 2010  > 'project' , then get an error " A SharePoint Server is not installed... " When I go to Server Explorer and select SharePoint connections > Add Connection, I get the same error. It will not let me connect to my SP server which is 2010 version. Do I have to have VS on the actual server? If so, why? I want to program from Desktop not server Any Help is appreciated

How to Establish a Remote Web Site Connection in SharePoint Designer 2007

I am modifying a SharePoint site and so far so good.  Some of the objects were created using Visual Studio 2008 (C#).  I was able to modify these objects and implement them on the targete machine without issue.  The final step is to implement the ASPX pages that were modified using SharePoint Designer 2007.  These are aspx pages that are used to modify items in lists.  All the pages involved in this upgrade are customized.  I need to upgrade the target site with the modified version of these pages.  My intent is to copy the code from the page in the source site and past it into the same page on the target site.  I tried using the Remote Web Site connection tool in SharePoint Designer 2007 but received the following error message:

"Unable to open 'https://(site address)'.  Server Error:  Could not find a Web server at 'website'.  Please check to make sure that the Web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly.  If you are sure that everything is correct, the Web server may be temporarily out of service."

I am not sure how to first check to see if the Web Server is temporarily out of service.  I would appreciate your input on how to verify this.

Background information of target machine:  WinServer 2008, IIS 7, Sharepoint (MOSS2007), site on port 80

Can I deploy a custom site page from the VS2010 SharePoint project?

Hi We're setting up some demos of our sharepoint plugins and want to easily deploy these into sharepoint so that all members of the company can easily get the demos running on their own machines. This is fine for layouts, web parts and so on - but the demo also has a customised sharepoint home page (which I edited in SP Designer) - how do I make this edited home page part of the VS2010 project so that it can be deployed easily to any site collection?   Thanks

Do SharePoint 2007 and VS2010 have to be installed to the same Windows Server machine?

For WSS 3.0 development using VS 2005, I learned that we need to install VSeWSS to the Windows Server where the WSS 3.0 was installed.  For MOSS 2007 development using VS 2010, do we need to have VS 2010  nstalled to the same Windows Server?  Thanks, Jeffrey

Sharepoint Filter Web Part Connection to Picture Libary Web Part

It seems that a sharepoint or choice filter web part can connect to any list object in sharepoint that is displayed in a web part on a page but the picture library.  I want to allow the user to select a value so that only the image that applies is viewed (along with any correlating information stored in its library). Is there a work around for this?  I've looked all over the web and can only find where someone else has asked in another forum and has not yet received an answer.  I'm sure this isn't the first time this has come up, so what are folks doing to accomplish this?

2-Way Connection between SharePoint List and SQL Database?

We currently have a SQL database with an Access front-end.  It's clunky and everyone hates it, of course.  Is there a reasonably simple way to tie a SharePoint list to a table in the database so that items can be entered in the SharePoint List and show up in the database, and vice-versa?  The reason for keeping the database is that some data is entered by users in Access, but some comes from an external source - thus, the need for a 2-way connection. It's MOSS 2007.

Sharepoint 2010 - The Managed Metadata Service or Connection is currently not available. The Applica

So I've already installed hot fix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976394.  Rebooted server and I still get this message.  The account being used is part of local adminstrators group and has full connection permissions for managed metadata service.  Is there anything else I'm missing or needs to be done?

Infopath bug in windows 7 to convert datasource to data connection library in sharepoint?

Any ideas about this bug: Windows 7, infopath 2007, did not check in the data connection file when converting a data source? Also it did not set title and kept the file checked out so that you can not even update the items by SharePoint UI. I did everything successfully with Infopath 2007 on a windows xp machine. Is the OS related in this case? Thanks,

Server 2003 prompting for credentials when connection to Sharepoint document library via UNC

Hi all

I have a sharepoint document library http://mycompany/sites/documentLibrary. When browsing to this site through Internet Explorer on a terminal server I can get to the site without being prompted for a username and password, which is what I want. The site appears as "local intranet"  according to IE.

When browsing to the UNC path \\mycompany\sites\documentLibrary we are being prompted for a username and password. After putting in the credentials the document library displays. I need for the server to be able to access the site via UNC path without being prompted for credentials as we have several in house applications relying on doing so

The funny thing is this was working until recently. What's changed? I have no idea. I have an almost identical terminal server on the same subnet/OS/windows patch level that allows access without prompting for a username or password, and the only thing I had to do for that server was enable the web client service..

Things I have tried so far:

- Checked the Web Client service is enabled, started and set to automatic. Restarted the server just to make sure.
- Added http://mycompany, \\mycompany etc to the trusted zone.
- Set the truste

I'm starting to develop a custom web part for SharePoint 2007 in VS 2010, is it possible !? or it's just for SharePoint 2010 !

Error opening excel files stored in SharePoint 3.0 from VS2010 (TFS2010 setup)

First I hope this is the correct forum for te below question, and if not, please excuse and if possible divert me to the correct place.

We have a TFS2010 setup with (what I managed to identify) Sharepoint Services 3.0.
We have 2 users working in the same collection, and also share some of the projects in it with the below problems:

1. User A has Office 2007. She is unable to "edit workbook" on an excel file directly from VS2010, and gets an error of 'Unknown error trying to lock file'. I searched this around and didn't find a solution, but did find a workaround - If she checks out the file directly from the SharePoint site, she is able to edit the file, and in fact is able to later "edit workbook" directly from VS2010 (as long as she once checked it out through SharePoint).

2. User B has Office 2010. When he tries to "edit workbook", he gets an error of 'A problem occurred while connecting to the server. If the problem continues, contact your administrator'. When he goes directly to the SharePoint, he is able to check out the file, open it in Excel 2010, but is not able to check it back in (gets an error that the file cannot be located or so, I don't have the exact error). This means that this user cannot work with the SharePpoint stored files at all, and currently works on local copies on hi

Import Discussion Board from SharePoint to VS2010

Dear all

I started to work with SharePoint 2010 and VS2010 C#.

I already have created a Discussion Board in SharePoint

I want to add this discussion board to VS2010 and I want to make some modification on it.

Enable or disable a field depend on specific user.

I want to make some events too.

Please advice how I can do that.

Thank you,

sharepoint workflow in vs2010

I am trying to build a sequential workflow that communicates with an external system via web services. The workflow sends command to the external system which then uses a web service (hosted in sharepoint) to update the workitem. On the workitem being updated code behind the onworkflowitemchanged event handler should fire and then the workflow moves on e.g. start - wait for change 1 (A)  - wait for change 2 (B) - end

My problem is that if I use 1 correlation token then steps A and B are invoked after 1 change. If I use 2 correlation tokens then B is never called.

Any suggestions on what I need to add to the workflow?

How to add a Database Connection on Sharepoint Designer 2007 to access SQL 2005 tables?

I've tried and looked on many sites with different solutions for which non of them resolved my issue. I've a blank Sharepoint site and want to view data from an SQL DB. It says that a Server Error occurred and that the Data Retrieval Service didn't worked out while listing the DB's.

I tried using the 3 methods... using the also the connection string in different ways... when I do it using VB, Office and Java... I can see the data from that DB... why on Sharepoint Designer it doesn't? It supposed to be more easier than other tools.

I'm really desperate. Any help is very welcome.

Configuring ODBC Database connection in Sharepoint Designer 2010

We are trying to connect the simple way from Sharepoint Designer 2010 to an external Pervasive SQL version 10 database.

Normally this is a trivial excercise in any other development tool, you supply an ODBC connection and away you go.

Using Sharepoint Designer 2010 (or the previous version) it is not possible to get a working connection that will get you past the "Configure Database Connection" dialog. We have to use the "Use custom connection string option" as that is the only place there appears to be a Provider for ODBC or OleDB.

No connection string works, I have tried connection strings that work fine in Visual Studio, no joy.

SharePoint 2010 and Reporting Services 2008 R2 Integration Fail - Failed to establish connection wit

We have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition on a virtual server (C-SQL) and SharePoint Server 2010 on another virtual server (C-SPOINT), with the SQL Backend of the SharePoint database residing on C-SQL. This worked fine.

SQL Server was installed with the domain administrator account and SharePoint with an account called 'visi' that has domain administrator privileges.

SSRS on C-SQL was initially installed as a native database. I changed this to a SharePoint integrated database with all authentications done as the visi user. Report server url was set to the normal http://C-SQL:80/ReportServer/.

On the SharePoint central administration site under General Application Settings -> Reporting Services Integration I filled in the details as required:

ASP.NetWindows Application  .NET Framework  C#  VB.Net  ADO.Net
Sql Server  SharePoint  Silverlight  Others  All
