Visual Upgrade and New Subsites

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi Folks When we create a new subsite in a 2010 site that has not had visual upgrade applied, the subsite is in the new 2010 format. Is there a way we can revert the new subsite back to the old WSS style like the parent site so the site and subsites are consistent? TIA Adam

how to upgrade to visual studio 2010 and ASP.net 4.0?

Visual Upgrade SiteDirectorySettings.aspx issue

After completing a SharePoint 2007 to 2010 migration I perfomed a Visual Upgrade on my site collections.  I noticed that the Site Directory Settings page (SiteDirectorySettings.aspx )  in the site settings section is not rendering properly.  It looks like it is still trying to render using the old SharePoint 2007 look/feel.

Has anyone else noticed this issue?

Repo steps:

  1. Database attach migration from 2007 to 2010
  2. Perform Visual Upgrade
  3. Go to Site Actions, Site Settings, choose Site Directory Settings under the Site Collection Administration grouping

Checkin.aspx fthrows error in live - not un dev - after visual upgrade

Dear all,

I made a cusomized masterpage in dev - based on the starter master pages of randy drisgill. They worked fine there. Used SP2010 designer export and import to live. Although I dont see them in SP designer, I see them in the MP gallery. Also tried dragging them in the library while in SP designer, no luck.

I go over to the master page gallery on the live and try to check the new masterpages in, no such luck, an error. I check out blackband, try to check it in, same error. So it seems to have nothing to do with the masterpage i'm trying to check in. The SP2010 machine is an in-place upgrade. Which worked fine - after a visual upgrade  though nothing seems to want to checkin anymore - also not on other libraries. This though was not the case in dev after visual upgrade.

Have a look at the ULS log here : http://twitpic.com/2vn3k2/full

I will revert to version 3 of the UI with powershell - but do hope to get to version 4 eventually.

Thanks for any tips

Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Performance Issues After Upgrade

I was unhappy with VS 2010 performance on my machine:

OS Name    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version    5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
System Type    X86-based PC
Processor    x86 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 5 GenuineIntel ~2393 Mhz
Total Physical Memory    4,096.00 MB

Graphics: Intel HD graphics, internal 128mb

Basically the UI kept hanging when closing tabs on the workspace or under general

navigation of UI.

I eventually found this fix:

which suggested turning off hardware rendering and it worked a treat.

General UI responsiveness was massively improved.

I see that this was recognised and VS comes with SW rendering as standard now for SP1 on XP.

However the upgrade to SP1 seems to have brought this problem back even though hardware rendering is disabled!

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?

Is there any suggestions?

Here is my info from VS:

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010
Version 10.0.40219.1 SP1Rel
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.0.30319 SP1Rel

ASP.NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 Web Development Beta 2 Overview

Many exciting changes for ASP.NET are coming in the .NET Framework version 4. This document gives an overview of many of the new features that are included in the Beta 2 release of the .NET Framework 4 and of Visual Studio 2010.

Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2

This is a big deal. This isn't ".NET 3.6" - there are a lot of improvements of .NET 4, and it's not just "pile on a bunch of features so you get overwhelmed." I've been working with and talking to many of the teams involved and even though it's a cheesy thing to say, this is a really customer-focused release.

ASP 4 - Whirlwind Tour around .NET 4 (and Visual Studio 2010) Beta 1

There's a lot of stuff that's new and added in .NET 4, but not in that "overwhelming-I-need-to-relearn-everything" way. More in that, "oh, this is way easier/simpler now" way. Like, moving data around with ADO.NET DataServices is easy, binding with client templates is easy, there's F# if you need it, the "dynamic" keyword if you need it, Silverlight's already installed, oh, and the parallel stuff will freak you out, but in a good way.

Short Overview of SharePoint Features in Visual Studio 2010

As you probably know, Visual Studio 2010 was announced earlier this week and it contains a lot of cool features and project templates for SharePoint developers. Below is a short overview for some of the SharePoint development related features and project templates.

Create and Use a Typed DataSet by Using Visual C# .NET

How to programmatically add controls to Windows forms at run time by using Visual C#

Create a Windows Forms Application
Start Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005 or a later version, and create a new Visual C# Windows Application project named WinControls. Form1 is added to the project by default.
Double-click Form1 to create and view the Form1_Load event procedure.
