free SP 2010 vs free SP 2010 trial

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi.  Please excuse my ignorance. I need to set up a Sharepoint Server upon which I'll install an eval webpart written by a well known MS partner.  The webpart will connect to that partner's eval server (which I've already set up) and render BI graphics for viewing by clients of the SP server. My boss said to install the free version of SP 2010.  He said we have plenty of licenses.  I poked around and see about 4 flavors of free SP 2010 trials but nothing that looks free past the trial period.  Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. My recollection is that in the SP space, there is/was a watered down version of SP that came free with the OS license.  I already have a server available with a licensed W2008 OS installed.   I just need to find the best SP download given my marching orders.  Can somebody help and enlighten me a bit?

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express - No more Free or a mistake?

I uninstalled VWD 2010 Express Beta2. Then installed latest Release(April 12th) via Web Platform Installer ...oh yes after installing XP Service Pack 3....

It all installed successfully and when I start the VWD 2010 express image comes up ....there is this fine text that says....

"For Evaluation Purpose Only"

"Use of this software should be limited to evaluation purpose only"

Being confused with that message I looked at Help->About VWD 2010 Express and right on top it says:

"29 days remaining"

So what's happening ????????? Did I install some wrong product... I don't think so...I used Web Platform Installer and yes it is "Visual Web Developer 2010 Express" and not a Professional Trial software.

With VWD 2008 it says "This product is licensed".

Anybody having any ideas...I am sure it is just some mistake (can I say it's a bug?)

Cannot Restore Backup from Sharepoint Server 2007 to Sharepoint Server 2010 Trial Version

After installing the trial version of Sharepointn 2010 I wanted to restore my Sharepoint 2007 sites to it but received the following error:  "The site collection could not be restored. If this problem persists, please make sure the content databases are available and have sufficient free space." I went on to create a new content database in sharepoint 2010 but it still did not work. The old database i.e the one used by the sharepoint 2007 server is SQL 2005. During the installation of the sharepoint 2010 version I selected SQl Server Express for the database. Is there any specifics for migrating from MOSS 2007 to sharepoint 2010? Thanks for helping

Visual Studio 2010 Professional trial says you can extend your trial?

Visual Studio 2010 Professional trial says you can extend your trial? You can get a key to extend your trial by registering this copy online ...... "Obtain new key online"

but it doesn't seem to work. Have Microsoft cancelled this extension or am I doing it the wrong way around?

How do you download the free InfoPath trial?

I'd like to test InfoPath Forms Services for MOSS, however I don't have InfoPath to create and edit forms as I'm using Office 2007 Professional, which doesn't include InfoPath. On the InfoPath website, there are a variety of "Try now" links, but none of them work. From what I've read, InfoPath comes with Office 2007 Professional *Plus* or Ultimate. However, neither seem to have a free trial.

Also, Microsoft mentions that you can also use other compatible XML editors, yet I can't seem to find a list of any. Any suggestions?

Trial verison of Sharepoint 2010?

I have downloaded the 180 day trial version of Sharepoint 2010 but when I start the install it is still prompting me for a license key which was not provided by the download. Does anyone know what needs to be done in order to install the trial version? Should I need some kind of a trial key should that have been downloaded with the trial version?

How to reinstall trial version of Sharepoint Server 2010 on the same server

I installed Sharepoint 2010 on my Virtual Box VM. I was having some problems accessing the configuration database and hence the central administration website. I couldn't figure out what was the problem, so I decided to uninstall and then reinstall the trial version of SP 2010. But now it's not letting me do that as it says I cannot install the trial version on the same server. Its been only 2 weeks since I installed the SP 2010 trial version, how do I skip this. Please help

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.

Clean Web.Config Files (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

.NET 4 includes a new version of the CLR, and a new .NET 4 specific machine.config file (which is installed side-by-side with the one used by .NET 2, .NET 3 and .NET 3.5).

The new .NET 4 machine.config file now automatically registers all of the ASP.NET tag sections, handlers and modules that we've added over the years, including the functionality for:

.ASP.NET Dynamic Data
.ASP.NET Routing (which can now be used for both ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC)
.ASP.NET Chart Control (which now ships built-into ASP.NET V4)
What this means is that when you create a new "Empty ASP.NET application" project in VS 2010, you'll find that the new default application-level web.config file is now clean and simple:
ASP.NetWindows Application  .NET Framework  C#  VB.Net  ADO.Net
Sql Server  SharePoint  Silverlight  Others  All
