Form Based Authentication with Custom database

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi, I have a Sharepoint 2010 web application and I want to implement FBA(Form Based Authentication) for that. I don't want to use any membership providers and role providers. I have a SQL server database where we will maintain users and roles. I want to use this database for validating user credentials and authenticating them. Is this possible in Sharepoint 2010? Please reply ASAP.

Form based authentication Sharepoint 2007 gets redirected to login page

Hi We have sharepoint 2007 site deployed on Windows server 2008, IIS 7.0.  We extended the web application to enable forms based authentication referring to link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb975136(office.12).aspx#MOSS2007FBAPart1_Intro, we selected Kerberos instead of NTLM, behavior is like, when user tries to login into the site using OOB login.aspx, user again gets redirected to the login page. We tried to extend the web application again but this time we selected NTLM, but this time farm account (also is application pool identity) is not able login and exhibits same behavior as above, but for other users we are able to login. Has anyone come across this behavior? can anyone please guide me in correct the behavior? Regards, RK  Radhakrishna

SP 2010 Form Based Authentication username begins with "i:0#.w|"

Hello there! For the life of me, i can't figure out why SharePoint keeps putting the phrase "i:0#.w|" infront of everyones username / accounts. Both on mysite and portal sites. A quick bing search revelaed that i am not the only one: http://fangdahai.blogspot.com/2010/06/i0w-is-still-there-in-sharepoint-2010.html. Anyone have a solution to fix this annoying problem? Thanks!

Form based Authentication - OpenLdap problem

Hi everyone,   I try to set up FBA with LdapMembership provider.   I have configured web app + STS like this : <add name="LDAPMember" type="Microsoft.Office.Server.Security.LdapMembershipProvider, Microsoft.Office.Server, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" server="server" port="389" useSSL="false" connectionUsername="uid=portal_sharepoint,ou=people,dc=corp,dc=contoso,dc=com" connectionPassward="somthing" userDNAttribute="distinguishedName" userNameAttribute="cn" userContainer="ou=people,dc=corp,dc=carrefour,dc=com" userObjectClass="person" userFilter="((eduPersonOrgUnitDN=cn=portal_sharepoint,ou=applications,ou=organizations,dc=corp,dc=contoso,dc=com))" scope="Subtree" otherRequiredUserAttributes="sn,givenname,cn" />   I can without problem use the people picker and get user information from it. But when i try to authenticate user i have an error that say : An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: The security token username and password could not be validated.   If i look my log on the ldap i see that all the time it's the portal dn that is used to authenticate user.   I

Forms Based Authentication - problem with custom master page and login page

I have successfully enabled and set up FBA (Forms Based Authentication) on my SharePoint 2010 Foundation server. The thing is that I need to customize the look and feel of the login page. I have successfully customized the page (and master page) to look the way I want, however, when I try to log in, I get the following error/message on the page:
"Forms Based Authentication on classic Web applications has been deprecated".

What I've done:
Made copies of /_layouts/simple.master and /_layouts/login.aspx and renamed the copies. The markup in the master page is MUCH simpler than the original, but I've kept all the ContentPlaceholders that I don't use (most of them) in a hidden <asp:Panel at the bottom of the page.

I've changed the web.config file:
<authentication mode="Forms">
      <forms loginUrl="/_layouts/loginCustom.aspx" />

So, I'm not getting any errors on the page until I try to log in. When I use the default settings (login.aspx and simple.master) it works just fine (but damn that page looks ugly!).

Does anyone know what I might be missing?

Update: I believe the reason it doesn't work is because my custom login aspx is not part of the Claims Based Web Application (because it's sitting

Forms based authentication allow only specific users from database table

I have the following implementation and I'm sure there is an easy way to do what I want to do but I can't figure it out.

1. I use forms based authentication to authenticate to my site

2.  I use active directory to authenticate the users

3.  I use the Allow Users="xxx" tag to authorize the users limited to the list that can access my site. (e.g.. even though Mary is an AD user she can't access my site unless I put her credentials in the allow users tag in the web.config file)

All is working well but I want to move the users access list (e.g.. <allow users="john" />" from the web.config to a database table so that I can create a user maintenance page for my admins to add and delete user access.   For the life of me I can't figure out how to do this and I can't seem to find an article on it either.  I'm sure I'm just not looking for the right thing, so help is greatly appreciated.

Here is my web.config file..

        <add name="DBConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=PRIMSRV;Initial Catalog=MAINDB;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=svc.Test;Password=password

WSS 3.0 Form Based Authentication & OWA on same web server?

Ok....I have Outlook Web Access (Exch2k3) configured using Form Based Authentication (FBA) on my frontend web server under the default iis site.  The web address is https://exchange.mydomain.com.....works perfect.

Now, I have a second iis site called SharePoint_Extranet.  This site is accessible from the web https://sharepoint.mydomain.com currently using integrated windows authentication to access.  This site uses a second IP address, with the different host header.

When I implemented “Forms” authentication in the Central Admin page in SharePoint....I selected my extranet web app......and the problems began.

Apparently, doing this stopped the OWA virtual server.....and now when I navigate to exchange.mydomain.com, it presented the SharePoint form instead....?

Since these are production systems, I immediately reverted the SharePoint back to windows authentication, and started my Exchange virtual servers back up....and all returned to normal.

My question is, can these 2 services both reside on the same iis web server using separate FBA?  If so, how can I implement it without interrupting service?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Form based Authentication

So I finally got FBA to work with my Active directory server.  A users authenticates fine.  The issue i have now is when I add a user for permission based on a group using people picker.  So, if I want to add a group for permission to a site in my AD and when one of those users in the group try to authenticate they get access denied.  I am 100% certain that the user is in the group but for some reason FBA will not look for the user within the group.  Anyone have a solution or can assist me with this I would appreciate it.

Form based authentication on current web application SharePoint 2010

I have question about creating form based authentication. I want to have different authentication in the same web application in the same time. For now I have windows authentication and I want to extend it to Form base authentication. I follow procedure on link http://blog.summitcloud.com/2009/11/forms-based-authentication-sharepoint-2010-fb/ step by step but it doesn't work. Also when I try to change authentication in Central administration to Forms it is not possible because that option is disable. Is there any setup for overcome this issue.

Thank in advice.

How to deal with the elements in Claims Based form authentication mMembership?

We are migrating from SharePoint 2007 to 2010. We used to use Forms Authentication for our portal and have a custom login.aspx page for authentication. In this login.aspx page code, it detects new user and will automatically create a user in the membership provider.

However, in SharePoint 2010, System.Web.Security.Membership always points to the defaultProvider="i" which is the default membership provider that claims authentication provider forces.

So we are facing a big problem about how to create a user in the membership provider in the new login.aspx page. How can we handle this situation?

Claims Based Authentication and Custom Apps in _layouts Directory

Hello everyone,

When we originally setup our SharePoint 2010 installation, we used Windows Classic Authentication. We have since built a couple of custom applications using VS2010 and deployed them to the _layouts directory. These apps query information from our ERP system and display them on a web page. We keep this inside of SharePoint to be consistent with the look and feel of the rest of the intranet.

We had a consultant come in to help with some other items with our SharePoint install and we converted to Claims Based Authentication. Now, when trying to use these custom applications, they ask for a username and password when you submit the information to query. When you provide the info, it does not authenticate and fails after three attempts. Does anyone know what additional steps are necessary for these apps to use the Claims Based Security Tokens? I've scoured the internet for two days looking for answers and haven't come up with anything useful.
