Strange Problems in 2010

Hello, we have just upgraded to sharepoint 2010 from 2007, on the whole the upgrade went well, but we seem to be having problems accessing Manage Content and Structure or browsing for an Image or Link, I have turned on debugging in web.config to see what the error is, there are several different errors including this one:   Object reference not set to an instance of an object. body {font-family:"Verdana";font-weight:normal;font-size: .7em;color:black;} p {font-family:"Verdana";font-weight:normal;color:black;margin-top: -5px} b {font-family:"Verdana";font-weight:bold;color:black;margin-top: -5px} H1 { font-family:"Verdana";font-weight:normal;font-size:18pt;color:red } H2 { font-family:"Verdana";font-weight:normal;font-size:14pt;color:maroon } pre {font-family:"Lucida Console";font-size: .9em} .marker {font-weight: bold; color: black;text-decoration: none;} .version {color: gray;} .error {margin-bottom: 10px;} .expandable { text-decoration:underline; font-weight:bold; color:navy; cursor:hand; } Server Error in '/' Application. Sharepoint Foundation 2010 problems with Office 2007 ActiveX controls

I have a SPF server that I recently upgraded from WSS 3 using the database attach method. The new server configuration is SQL 2008 R2 with SPF 2010 on Windows 2008 64bit SP2. Mostly things are working fairly well, though there have been a few fires to put out. The latest inflamation seems to be centered around ActiveX controls for Office 2007. I'm getting the following message whenever I try to create a new document using the New button: " 'New Document' requires a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible application and web browser. To add a document to this document library, click the 'Upload Document' button." On the client side, the browser is IE8 on Windows 7 (Windows is 64bit, though the browser is in 32 bit mode.) using Office 2007. I've also had the same problem with systems running XP. In terms of troubleshooting, other activeX related features seem to be working fine. I can open datasheet views, if I click on a document, it will open in the appropriate client. However, I have some libraries where the Word document template opens the document information panel and those will give thhe following message on open: "One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1)Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on thi page , or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the contols. As a result the page mi

Problems with interaction between MS VS 2010 and MS SQL 2005

This is extremely frustrating.  I had bought MS VS 2005, years ago, and generally liked it.  I installed MS SQL 2005 (developer's edition) and found it easy to work with (though I haven't figured out how to create new login credentials on it - but that isn't a problem in my present context).  It appears to me that my problem is due to the clients for SQL server being incorporated and hidden somewhere inthe interface of MSVS 2010 from being apparently individual programs I am familiar with using. My employer just bought me a new machine (because my existing workstation was too heavily loaded), and required me to install both MS VS 2005 and MS VS 2010.  As part of my installation of MS VS 2005 on this machine, I installed MS SQL Server 2005 (but had forgotten to install teh corresponding clients).  And then I installed MSVS 2010.  When I noticed the clients I was used to  had not been installed, I went to install them and failed with an error message that a more recent version had been installed.  The old machine is runnign Windows XP and the new one is using Windows 7 Pro, if that matters. The problem is that I can not find the equivalent of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio in MS VS 2010.  So I am at loss as to where the tools are in VS2010 to create new databases, tables, &c.  More annoyingly, I can not find the

Problems with access to external lists in SharePoint 2010

Our environment is SharePoint 2010 Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and SQL server 2008 R2.   We have External lists that access a local database in SharePoint SQL Server. When new lists are added and permissions are given in the SharePoint Central Administration the domain users had to be in the Windows administration group to access the lists.   Recently in the same environment the domain users were removed from Windows Administration user group and could access the external lists.   In another similar test server we found adding the domain users to Windows Administration does not give the new domain users access to External lists.   The inconsistency is the issue. Has anyone seen this issue or provide a possible solution?

Strange Permission Problems with Sharepoint 2003

Hi We are having a problem with access permissions with sites created in Sharepoint.  We set the permissions for individual site via 'Site Settings' for that site and lock it down to certain individuals selected from Active Directory. However the problem is some users who are in the administrators Active Directory AD Group manage to get to access the site when they do not have any permissions set via 'site settings' Any ideas on why this is occuring and any possible solution. TIA

Problems when deploying sequential workflow with association Infopath form of sharepoint 2010 using

I’ve create a workflow project with infopath in it. And I get the error

“Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': Unable to locate the workflow's association data. To restore the association data to the workflow, restart the workflow settings wizard by selecting the workflow node in Solution Explorer and then clicking the ellipsis button (…) on one of the properties in the Properties window that has an ellipsis button.”

I'd really appreciate of any help.

Problems with Exposing Excel contents in SharePoint 2010

<!-- [if gte mso 10]> <mce:style>

I have an Excel spreadsheet and I want to use it to trigger a work flow ... BUT ... I don't want to just use the creation or modification of it to trigger the work flow ... I want some data in the sheet to trigger it.

I followed some How-To's and was able to get to the point where I set up a Site Column and associated it to a Custom Content Type (i.e.: my Excel sheet) and when someone creates a new document this is loaded with the ability to manually enter the value in the Document Properties bar that appears.  Great ... but why would I want to manually enter the value again when I have already have it in a cell below.  I thought, OK a little more work to do and I am done.

So, after some research, I learned that I have to  create a named cell range and custom field in my Excel document and then expose that to SharePoint. I was referenced to this article (http://tinyurl.com/29l98rl) and performed the steps as outlined ... and thought, "Great that was easy ... I am done !!"

Well ... that wasn't quite true.  After testing this out I soon realized that the data in the cell was not being populated into the Site Column.  So I went back and double checked it and am pretty sure that I did everything right (

Sharepoint 2010 and Outlook 2007 Problems!

I am using SP 2010 and have outlook 2007. I am using the calendar synch option and am easily able to synch the calendar from SP to Outlook. I was easily able to drag and drop all appointments at once from my outlook calendar to the SP calendar and they showed up on the SP site. Now I am unable to make any further changes on the SP calendar using Outlook that will show on the SP site. It will say it is "Send/Receive Status % complete" at the bottom of the Outlook screen, but when I look at the SP site, no changes are reflected. It will allow the opposite, if I make changes to the calendars on the SP site and then the changes will show on my Outlook SP calendars.

I have full permission in SP. Really confused why it let me synch at first FROM Outlook to the SP site, but no longer will.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Problems with Silverlight and Visual Studio 2010

I don't know if this is the right forum but I'm having some issues with Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7 x64.  I can create and design a WPF project just fine but when I try to do Silverlight, I get the following error in the designer.  I can't access the visual designer or the XAML.

Strange "Input string was not in a correct format" after upgrading to .net 4.0 (VS 2010)

Hi guys, I am at a loss here.  I have a gridview that was displaying and handling postbacks correctly, that is, until I upgraded to .net 4.0 (vs 2010) from .net 3.5. Now I am getting the classic (and in this context meaningless) "Input string was not in a correct format" error upon postback. The postback is initiated by a command button and the row command event handles everything nicely.

The trace shows internal grid postback handling and nothing else:

Strange behaviour of VS 2010 in ASP.NET Dynamic data web App

I noticed this while i was working on asp.net dynamic data web app. It made me go crazy as I struggled quite a lot of time why this error was coming.

Basically, I have some of the custom page templates added to my application. I observed that if I keep these custom pages say /DynamicData/CustomPages/Employees/Details.aspx opened in the designer, I always get following error when i try to run the app.

Server Error in '/' Application.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested URL: /DynamicData/CustomPages/Employees/Details.aspx

I did not understand the logic behind this. In order to confirm, i created a simple web app with dynamic data and still this error occurs. In fact, the same error also occurs if you keep any of the default page templates opened in your designer.

Cannot Configure Sharepoint Server 2010/Installation Problems

Hello,

I am having the exact problem with the Configuration failing. It appears that EmilyBen fixed the problem by uninstalling and "reimaging" her server. Would you please tell me how this is done and will I be able to reinstall without any problems, such as reusing my license key for the product?

Thanks, Lapt

SSRS 2008 R2 and Sharepoint 2010 - performance problems

Hi all,

I'm currently in a DWH project using SSRS 2008 R2 x64 in Sharepoint Integrated mode along with Sharepoint 2010, and we're seeing massive performance problems even though traffic on the server is at a bare minimum. We're in development with a maximum of a few users online at any given time and the server itself isn't doing a whole lot...cpu is usually < 20%. We have timed the database queries and 90% of them are taking less than a second to execute while reports takes anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds to load (some heavier reports can occasionally take a lot longer). I am simply unable to get anything to load in less than 5 seconds, even the simples grid from a SELECT TOP 5 * FROM table query takes this long.

The server setup is suboptimal as SQL Server, Reporting Services and Sharepoint are all running on the same virtual machine but with the minimal amount of traffic we have this shouldn't really be a problem. The server is a Win 2008 x64 Datacenter with 4 CPU's and 16GB RAM.

A standard sharepoint page that gets data from the database is returned in milliseconds...why doesn't reporting services do the same? What can I do to increase performance?
